Michael Bay Rolling Out ‘Transformers’ Reboot

I have some good news and some bad news for Michael Bay. Paramount‘s indentured servant has fought for years to get his dream project, Pain and Gain, made. In order to do so, he had to make a string of films starring big, noisy robots. That hard work has paid off and Pain and Gain is officially a go. However, just when he thought he was out, they drag him back in. The price of this dream project? You know it. More big, noisy robots.

Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura told MTV News that a new Transformers is on the way with Bay at the helm, “Michael’s going to direct it. It will be in the summer of 2014.”

This won’t be another sequel per se. It looks like plans will involve bringing in a new cast of underwear models to team with the robots to save Earth. “I think we really are going to do a reboot there,” Di Bonaventura said. “[But] what that’s going to be, we don’t even know yet…. We’ve got to get a story first.”

Ha. Seeing as the first three earned $2.6 billion without a story, I’m thinking that’s not a real priority.

Alexander Aja Directing ‘Pet Sematary’ Remake?

We all know that horror movie remakes suck. Except when Alexander Aja is behind the lens. The man is just so good at being disturbing. That’s why we suddenly find ourselves excited for the remake of Pet Sematary.

Paramount is actively trying to sign the Hills Have Eyes and Piranha 3D director to reanimate Stephen King‘s classic. It seems like a perfect marriage of talent and material. Should the deal work out, horror fans will have the rare pleasure of looking forward to an unnecessary remake knowing that Aja will bring something original and creepy to the film. So here’s hoping that a brand new generation have the opportunity to be mentally-scarred by Pet Sematary. (Twitch)

20th Century Fox are vigorously rubbing their hands together at the exciting news that James Cameron and Sam Worthington want to reunite for the studio. The duo, who you may remember teamed up on the art house picture Avatar, are looking at sci-fi action project Myth, a pitch by writer Will Staples. Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonventura is also on board, just to assure the movie’s invincibility.

There’s a catch, however. All three powerhouses are only looking to produce. Cameron is not set to direct, Worthington is not set to star, and di Bonventura is not set to serve BBQ Chicken quesadillas during break time. We don’t even have any solid details on Myth except that “it’s big, it’s sci-fi, and it’s got lots of action.” I believe SyFy channel’s Dinocroc vs. Supergator had the same premise.

So look for this movie sometime maybe in the future. Or never. (THR)

That’s an exchange from my one act play: Man Who Gets Killed Talking To A Transformer. The sneak peak image below is from the upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon, starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Patrick Dempsey. It’s a new, dizzying look at the Decepticon Shockwave, who’s working with Megatron on a crazy new scheme that’s bad news for humans. Y’know, the little fleshy guys that don’t turn into stuff.

In an interview, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura recently described Shockwave as “a ball of destruction, pulling whole skyscrapers down. He’s a messy guy to have in our world.” I hear he also doesn’t use a spoon when he eats pasta, and sauce gets all over the city. Very messy. Also, he kills a lot of people.

Jon Chu To Direct ‘GI Joe 2′, Will Justin Bieber Play Sgt. Slaughter?

Paramount loves its money, and director Jon M. Chu is turning in box office numbers to the tune of +$54 million so far with Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. So, under the influence of intense Bieber Fever, Paramount decided to reward Chu by choosing him to helm GI Joe 2. Chu also directed Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, meaning a Cobra/Joe dance-off scene is now inevitable.

The deal is still being put into place, but Chu is definitely the soldier Paramount’s drafted for duty. Along with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Chu will begin the production process this Fall.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle, you guys. (Deadline)
