Good news for everyone who missed Party Down when it originally aired on Starz. Now you might have the chance to ignore a big screen adaptation of the series.

Show creator Rob Thomas spoke at an Alamo Drafthouse event celebrating the brilliant but canceled comedy and he had some good news that will hopefully pan out. “People are talking to us about doing a Party Down movie, and we are pretty far down the deal-making process with that … Ideally, if it works out, we could be shooting in television hiatus time next spring. So hopefully that deal will close, and we’ll all tweet about it when it does.”

Of course, Thomas is also the creator of Veronica Mars and plans to get a movie version of that off the ground never panned out. Between that, the rumblings of a Wet Hot American Summer prequel, and now half-promises of a big-screen Party Down, there’s never been a more frustrating time to be a comedy nerd. Or Ken Marino. Please save the date for the marriage of very hot and also very hot. By that I mean nerd crushes Alison Brie and Lizzy Caplan are teaming up for the romantic comedy, Save The Date. In the film they’ll play sisters who like to smell one another’s hair and tickle each other and make their boobs touch and say my name directly into camera. If only.

They’ll actually play sisters with Brie settled in her life choices and Caplan feeling mor restless. Martin Starr (who “Party Down“ed with Caplan), Geoffrey Arend (who played Quirky Guy #1 in (500) Days Of Summer) and Mark Weber (?) also co-star. Arend will play a love interest for Caplan and Martin Starr will just play some dude as far as we know at this point. It’s likely his character is involved with Brie’s but that doesn’t mean it will prevent me from coming around with my seduction kit. I don’t care if dude put a ring on it or not. (Variety)

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are moving forward with an adaptation of the hit off-Broadway play Bachelorette, which features “Party Down” alums Adam Scott and Lizzy Caplan, as well as Casey Wilson and Kirsten Dunst. The film will be produced under Ferrell and McKay’s Gary Sanchez production studio.

The film actually has a painfully generic premise: Three best friends are invited to serve at bridesmaids for a girl they taunted in high school. A laundry list of characters from their high school days appear at the wedding, presumably with hilarious results. The $3 million budget sounds promising as well, as both Scott and Caplan have proven they can shine in the indie (read: low budget) paradigm.

Leslye Headland, a former assistant to the Weinsteins and writer for FX’s short-lived “Terriers” will be writing and directing the film. Some aspects of this story cause me to scream from my desk in joy (Ferrell, Scott, Caplan), some make me skeptical (plot and writer/director), and some just make me gassy and dizzy (Dunst). (THR)

Stoner comedies are experiencing a bit of a resurgence of late, what with the stonerly acclaimed Harold & Kumar movies, Pineapple Express, and Your Highness. And now it looks like indie comedian Matt Walsh is getting in on that sweet hydroponic action with High Road. Get it? “High”?

Anyway, here’s the trailer, which kind of seems like it was put together by someone under the influence of cannabis sativa, in that it’s meandering and sluggish. Hopefully the movie will be a lot better, especially with the cast that it has. Take a look at these names: Lizzy Caplan, Rob Riggle, Ed Helms, Horatio Sanz, and Kyle Gass are just some of the people in this thing. And the movie seems to be largely improvised, so maybe the trailer is a fluke. Third option: That you think the trailer is hilarious and I’m an idiot and/or high right now.

Lizzy Caplan is returning to the world of underrated cable comedy. Deadline reports that she’s teaming up with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay to develop the dating disaster memoir "I Don’t Care About Your Band" into a comedy series for HBO.

Based on the sh*tty dating experiences of comedienne Julie Klausner, "I Don’t Care About Your Band" will star Caplan as a young woman who dates man-boys perpetually. Whether they be hacky improv comedians or callow would-be rockstars. What that means is we’ll most likely see Caplan wrapped in dinosaur-print bedsheets while asking, "Where is this relationship headed?"
