The guy who wrote Blood Diamond, Charles Leavitt, is polishing a second draft, and the producers are looking for a director who can turn this weird little world into something presentable onscreen. May I suggest Michael Bay? May I always suggest Michael Bay for every movie currently in development?

The project has been rattling around for years, but probably has taken a backseat due to the wide scope and undoubtedly astronomical budget in spite of its decidedly niche appeal.

Unless it’s all greenscreened, which would keep costs down and probably get the target market to wet its collective trousers.

Guillermo Del Toro Wants Idris Elba For ‘Pacific Rim’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/guillermo-del-toro-wants-idris-elba-for-pacific-rim/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/guillermo-del-toro-wants-idris-elba-for-pacific-rim/#comments Mon, 06 Jun 2011 12:19:08 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=214871

Everything’s coming up Idris Elba. “The Wire” actor has enjoyed numerous successes since the HBO show ended and it looks like there’s a role waiting for him if he wants to play with Guillermo Del Toro and giant robots for four months.

Most recently seen in Thor, Elba is also rumored to maybe work with Tarantino on Django Unchained. Though there have been zero confirmations regarding that. Details are vague right now about Pacific Rim. If he does join, he and Charlie Hunnam will help protect Earth from invading monsters. Tom Cruise might help out too. You saw the way he handled Rain Man‘s freakouts. Killing evil creatures from another world should be a walk in the park compared to that. (The Wrap)

Jackie Robinson To Go From The Negro Leagues To The Big Screen http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jackie-robinson-to-go-from-the-negro-leagues-to-the-big-screen/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jackie-robinson-to-go-from-the-negro-leagues-to-the-big-screen/#comments Wed, 01 Jun 2011 18:56:01 +0000 Joseph Gibson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=214265 The story of Jackie Robinson could obviously make a pretty compelling movie. And the folks at Legendary Pictures must agree, since they’ve put a Robinson biopic in development, despite the fact that everyone from Spike Lee to Robert Redford has attempted and failed to get one made. Now it’s producer Thomas Tull who’s at bat (ha ha!). Here he is on the project:

“We are deeply honored and grateful to be able to bring the Jackie Robinson story to audiences around the world. The legacy he left on history, society and the sport of baseball is one that will never be forgotten, and we are pleased to tell this amazing story of a true American hero.”

Isn’t it refreshing to see a Hollywood bigshot cut loose and say what’s on his mind like that? I can’t wait for this movie to come out! (Deadline)

‘Godzilla’ Rises From the Depths Once Again http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/godzilla-rises-from-the-depths-once-again/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/godzilla-rises-from-the-depths-once-again/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000

Legendary Pictures is gearing up for an American remake of Godzilla, the well-known monster most famous for destroying Tokyo more times than panty-sharking. This seems like a bad idea. Roland Emmerich‘s attempt to bring Toho’s monster to American shores was terribly goofy and has really soured the public’s need to see another film. For that reason, Legendary wants to make it clear that this movie will not be a sequel to that movie. It will be a re-imagining of the Japanese Godzilla films, but I’m still hesitant to trust–

Wait what’s this?

Oh, okay. That’s adorable. I can’t stay mad at him now. Post-convert it to 3D and bring it on Legendary!
