‘Jurassic Park 4′ Was Almost Ridiculous

While Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes scribes tinker away on the script for Jurassic Park 4, we can take a look at the concept art for an earlier iteration of that film. I never thought they’d top the day-glo dinosaur from Jurassic Park 3 designed to push more toys, but they have. Dinosaur-human hybrids. Eat your heart out, The Amazing Spiderman.

Based on a script by William Monahan (The Departed) and John Sayles (The Spiderwick Chronicles), the fourth film in the series would feature a genetics lab mixing dinosaur and human DNA for some reason. Thankfully, that movie was never made and we didn’t have to see Jeff Goldblum kick one of these things in the nards.

Back in January, Joe Johnston told Box Office Magazine that a fourth Jurassic Park film would kickstart a new dinosaurs eat people trilogy. The news kind of came and went without any real follow-up but today there’s proof that Johnston wasn’t just saying things. We, the Internet, are sorry for doubting you Joe Johnston. Here, you can have half of our lunch.

THR reports that Steven Spielberg is in dino-mode again and having talks with screenwriter Mark Protosevich about returning to Isla Nublar for Jurassic Park 4. But don’t expect to buy life-sized dinosaur egg jawbreakers at WalMart just yet. Both Universal and Spielberg’s camp have stressed that there is not a script in the works as of now. These talks are purely exploratory and depend on concept and whether or not today’s audiences want to see Garret Dillahunt get eaten by raptors.

In a recent interview with Boxoffice Magazine, Joe Johnston, director of The Wolfman, confirmed that Jurassic Park IV is definitely happening, and will most likely be the beginning of a new trilogy of Jurassic Park films:

Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three—it’s essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way.

He went on to say:

If you think of the first three as a trilogy, number four would be the beginning of a second trilogy. If they keep working—and if audiences keep going to them—there’s no reason why there wouldn’t be. We just want to make the justified in their own right. We don’t want to make sequel after sequel just because there’s a market for it. We want to tell different, interesting stories. You don’t want to just sell hamburger.

The island dinosaurs are going to terrorize three more groups of people?! You know evolution has failed when humans continue going back to a defunct theme park thats most popular ride is being eaten alive by prehistoric beasts. Nonetheless, if Jurassic Park IV can bring the series back to level of the first film I’ll stand in line just like I did in 1993.
