‘Jurassic Park 4′ Gets A Director

It’s Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Trevorrow. An odd, some might say inspired, choice, but it certainly does better than going to the well of action stalwarts like Joe Johnston, Joe Dante, or Roland Emmerich. Or Peter Berg. He’s stunk up the joint recently, too.

This news comes after he was rumored to be a candidate for the next Star Wars, until J.J. Abrams slid into the spot. Considering the film is set to be released in June of ’14, it’s about damn time they announced a director. Those dinosaurs are notoriously hard to work with, unless they have a strong figure to direct them.

Let’s hope that this film, with Trevorrow attached, goes as far in the direction of “intellectual” as the third one did in the direction of “duhhhhhhhhhhh.”

While Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes scribes tinker away on the script for Jurassic Park 4, we can take a look at the concept art for an earlier iteration of that film. I never thought they’d top the day-glo dinosaur from Jurassic Park 3 designed to push more toys, but they have. Dinosaur-human hybrids. Eat your heart out, The Amazing Spiderman.

Based on a script by William Monahan (The Departed) and John Sayles (The Spiderwick Chronicles), the fourth film in the series would feature a genetics lab mixing dinosaur and human DNA for some reason. Thankfully, that movie was never made and we didn’t have to see Jeff Goldblum kick one of these things in the nards.

Comic-Con 2011: Spielberg Says ‘Jurassic Park 4′ Is Underway

People can only listen to Spielberg talk about The Adventures of Tintin for so long before they draw upon the 52,000 other questions that they have for America’s most iconic director. However, the audience was able to get some pretty interesting info from him regarding the long-incubating and inevitable Jurassic Park 4.

Spielberg said that a writer has been commissioned and a script is underway, with a story in place. Going against the evasive nature of most directors when asked about such prestige projects, Spielberg also volunteered that JP4 will be hitting theaters in the next “2-3 years.” Not to be a pessimist, but my money’s on “3.”

He didn’t divulge any further details, nor his capacity in the production, but it’s a hell of a lot more info than we had yesterday, so we’ll take what we’re given.

Oh, and in case there was any question, this little Q&A went down in Hall H of Comic-Con 2011, San Diego, California, USA, The World.
