Go Joe! Again!!

Much like the ragtag heroes at its center, G.I. Joe: Retaliation defied the odds and kicked the evil shapeshifter out of the box office White House. Surprisingly, anticipation for the sequel has been at a fever pitch after the awesome-but-dopey original and a postponed release. Then again, this film features ninjas fighting on a mountain face and who doesn’t want to see that sh*t?

Thanks to this weekend’s successful take, Paramount has granted the greenlight to a third G.I. Joe film. As of now, John M. Chu is not attached to direct nor are any of the sequel’s cast signed to return. However, offers will likely go out soon. What really remains to be discussed is which exciting locale will ninjas next clash? Maybe on the side of a large hovercraft that can float on lava?? I’d go see that. (Variety)

Joe 2: Retaliation continues to get wacky with its casting and it looks like they’ve snagged a pretty big get. Well, bigger than Marlon Wayans anyway. Bruce Willis is in talks to join the sequel as the Joe that started it all. Willis will play General Joe Colton, the man who forms the ultimat fighting force which is later known as G.I. Joe. Because it’s common for organizations to be named after their founders?

Jon M. Chu is directing from a script by it doesn’t matter as long as the action is cool, that will star Channing Tatum, The Rock, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and RZA. There’s no word yet how this sequel will eschew the original cast to make room for the new recruits but let’s hope to hear one soon. Don’t G.I. Joe fans deserve continuity?
The real Cobra Commander wouldn't run away from a fight with the Joes, unless he was about to lose.

The real Cobra Commander wouldn’t walk away from a fight with the Joes, unless he was about to lose. However, we’re not talking about the awesomely-faceless cartoon character. In the awful GI Joe movie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred as the scratchy-voiced villain. Since then, Levitt has become a hot commodity with Inception and a much discussed by geeks role in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises. Meanwhile, GI Joe 2 got a director in Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon M. Chu. So, I think we can see where this is headed: Levitt signed on for GI Joe 2, four additional sequels and a TV show… but you know… not that.

Levitt confirmed in a recent interview he won’t be screaming “retreeeeeat” anytime soon, and won’t be back for GI Joe 2 to reprise his key role. Many of the characters in the first one aren’t coming back: only Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes and Duke. However, the movie has reportedly been subtitled Cobra Strikes. Does this mean another actor will step in for Levitt? If only we knew, because knowing is 45-55% of the battle. (Collider)

'GI Joe 2' and 'Hugo Cabret' get release dates from Paramount. The first one they can keep for themselves, thank you.

Mark your calendars, folks. On August 10, 2012, your childhood gets its ass kicked again by the live action Joes. Yes, Paramount is letting GI Joe 2 invade theaters in mid-August, a dumping ground for many of the summer’s most quality-challenged big budget movies. With Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 2: The Streets) directing, it’s sure to a high-flying, high-kicking waste of your $38.

Paramount also officially locked-in the release date of Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming 3D blockbuster Hugo Cabret as November 23, 2011. Scorsese in 3D sounds intriguing, as does the cast, which includes Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jude Law and Christopher Lee. Hopefully, Cobra doesn’t do anything to muck up Hugo Cabret‘s Thanksgiving release. (Hollywood Reporter)

Under the influence of intense Bieber Fever, Paramount decided to reward 'Never Say Never' director Chu by choosing him to helm 'GI Joe 2'.

Paramount loves its money, and director Jon M. Chu is turning in box office numbers to the tune of +$54 million so far with Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. So, under the influence of intense Bieber Fever, Paramount decided to reward Chu by choosing him to helm GI Joe 2. Chu also directed Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, meaning a Cobra/Joe dance-off scene is now inevitable.

The deal is still being put into place, but Chu is definitely the soldier Paramount’s drafted for duty. Along with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Chu will begin the production process this Fall.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle, you guys. (Deadline)

My Bieber Fever is so out of control, I can barely type these words, cause my hands are shaking. Also, is frequent vomiting a symptom?

I’m guessing that your heart’s beating a littl faster</a knowing that the “Director’s Fan Cut” of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is coming to theaters for one week beginning Feb 28th. My Bieber Fever is so out of control, I can barely type these words, cause my hands are shaking. Also, is frequent vomiting a symptom? I’m guessing “yes.”

Director Jon M. Chu couldn’t bare to cut a single precious frame from his 3D Bieberpiece. “I realized I had an embarrassment of riches when I was I in the cutting room,” said Chu. So he asked the Biebermaniacs on Twitter and Facebook what they want to see more of. The result is an additional 40 minutes tacked onto the 1 hour 45 minute runtime, featuring new song performances and footage of Bieber hangin’ with his crew, the Black Mafia Family, back home in Detroit – “where my boyz at?”

Tickets go on sale for the limited engagement Tuesday, February 22nd at 8pm EST/5pm PST, in theaters across the US and Canada. I’m guessing a sizable chunk of total tickets sold will come from Screen Junkie readers, his core demographic. (ComingSoon)
