Inspiring.

There’s a lot of myth and lore around Walt Disney. The man created what is arguably the largest entertainment machine in the history of the universe, and he did so in a very entrepreneurial fashion. So credit to him there. But he didn’t just coast right into becoming “Walt Disney.” Nope. He had to grind it out, as this trailer for Walt Before Mickey shows us.

And if you’re thinking that Walt Disney looks familiar, it’s Thomas Ian Nicholas, who is best known as the other-other guy from American Pie, and Henry Rowengartner from Little Big League. Haven’t seen much of him recently. Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jon Heder plays Walt’s brother Roy.

That’s some inspired, weird casting. Check out the trailer and buy a ticket to Disneyland.

When you think of indie film overachievers, Napoleon Dynamite might not be the first movie that comes to mind, but that doesn’t diminish its success. It was able to turn a strong profit at the box office, enter the social consciousness, and probably made a ton of money from licensing miscellaneous crap.

And in honor of its success, and the film’s tenth anniversary, Fox threw a little party for the film on its Century City lot. Kind of like those really bleak office parties that have cake, but they only last for 15 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon, then it’s back to work.

The entire cast was there, save for Kip, and they unveiled an odd statue of Napoleon that looks like it may have been melted a little after it was built. It looks like they put Napoleon in the Bad Grandpa makeup. It’s gross.

But so is Napoleon, so maybe it’s a very self-aware bad statue.

‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Gets Animated…for Some Reason http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/napoleon-dynamite-gets-animated-for-some-reason/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/napoleon-dynamite-gets-animated-for-some-reason/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 When it comes to flops, you can't get much bigger than Gentlemen Broncos. And like a wounded solider crying out for his mother, filmmakers Jared and Jerusha Hess are longing to return to familiar territory after their critical and financial depantsing. The pair is currently in talks with Fox to develop a pilot based their first, and some would say only success: Napoleon Dynamite. Sources close to the story state that many of the actors from the film will return to lend their voices to the cartoon, including star Jon Heder, Efran Ramirez (Pedro), Aaron Ruell (Kip), and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico). No word on whether or not Tina Majorino will return as Deb. No story details have been revealed, but it seems likely that it would work mainly as a continuation of the film, which followed Napoleon through the hilarious awfulness of his day-to-day existence.  I could make a joke about the fact that all of the original actors are "available" to do the voices, but hey, we can't all be successful "overnight writers" for screenjunkies.com. Besides, if you ask me, it sounds like a great plan. When Kevin Smith's career hit a rough patch, he developed an animated version of his first sucess, Clerks. He then went on to direct Jersey Girl.
