Michael Bay promised that Transformers 3 won’t feature any of the hokeyness of its predecessor. J/K, you guys!

Of course it will be hokey. And it looks like that will be provided in the form of the NASCAR-themed robots, The Wreckers. It’s not quite wrecking ball testicles or the racist twins but does the series really need robots with mullets? Who does that appeal to besides people with mullets?

Whatever. The target audience will still laugh and squeal when the robot dances to “Achy, Breaky Heart” and spits chewing tobacco on John Turturro. God, I hope this thing develops a meth addiction. (via Topless Robot)

John Turturro To Be “The Jesus” Of ‘Cars 2′

Pixar’s Cars 2 is exciting a lot of people who like talking cars and cool spy adventures (I’m pretty sure an interest in at least one of those two subjects covers 90% of Earth’s population). Now it seems that fans of John Turturro can also get in on the fun – the actor has signed on to play Francesco Bernoulli, rival to Owen Wilson’s Lightning McQueen. Check out this eerily elaborate backstory for a character in a Disney cartoon:

“Francesco Bernoulli grew up in the shadow of the famous Monza race course in Italy where he and his friends would sneak onto the track and race the famous Pista di Alta Velocita bank turn. He was an instant winner on the amateur circuit and soon became an international Formula Racer champion. The ladies love Francesco’s open wheels, youngsters look up to his winning spirit and fellow racers envy his speed. But Francesco’s biggest fan is Francesco himself, as evidenced by his racing number. As the most famous race car in Europe, #1 Francesco is a favorite to win the World Grand Prix, which also makes him Lightning McQueen’s chief rival.”

Cool, now I know way too much about an Italian talking car in a kids’ movie. Thanks, internet. Cars 2 is set for a June 24th premiere. (via Comingsoon.net)

Spike Lee Doesn’t Love Michael Jackson That Much After All

It’s been reported in the past that director Spike Lee was working on a full-length drama (or, “joint”) entitled Brooklyn Loves MJ. Well now, according to The Playlist, the movie is “not happening.” The movie was set to ““examine the potential community impact of a tribute concert and neighborhood celebration in Michael Jackson‘s memory, as this fictional event might occur in a re-gentrified area of Brooklyn, New York,” and it was rumored to have Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro, Julianne Moore, and Rosie Perez among its cast.The project made sense since Spike Lee’s love of Michael Jackson is a matter of record.

I’m not the biggest Spike Lee fan in the world, but I respect him as a filmmaker and I think it’s a shame that a movie with that cast and him behind the camera is getting shelved. The article also says that Lee was visibly upset when he answered a question about the movie to the effect that it wasn’t going to happen, which is also a shame. I can’t stand to see Spike Lee upset! It’s not all bad for Spike though, since his next movie Nagaski Deadline is set to begin shooting soon.
