Stewart's taking off to direct 'Rosewater', which I hope is more interesting than its title.

Fans of The Daily Show will have to adjust to a slightly different, yet familiar, type of snark as Jon Stewart takes a couple months off this summer to tackle his first directing gig, and TDS “correspondent” John Oliver steps in to see us through the dog days.

Oliver, in typical dry, pithy, British fashion, blogged, “”Don’t worry, it’s still going to be everything that you love about The Daily Show, just without the thing that you love the most about it.” Oh, John with an “h,” you’re just as special as “h”-less Jon, and don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

Oliver steps in on June 10th with guest Seth Rogen, who many of you may know as having played schlubs his entire acting career.

He's getting into serious drama, not fake serious drama as you'd expect.

Jon Stewart has announced he’s leaving the fake news desk for a brief hiatus to direct his first feature film. The Daily Show host will overturn his hosting/eyebrow-wiggling duties to correspondent John Oliver while he spends his summer vacation shooting Rosewater from his own script.

Fans of Stewart’s snarky, subversive style of comedy can walk right out that door and never come back or call or write, because the serious subject matter of this film will be a departure from what we’ve seen Stewart do. Based on the book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival, the movie will tell the true story of BBC journalist Maziar Bahari’s 118-day imprisonment and torture in Iran. The journalist had initially been visiting the country for one week while covering their 2009 presidential elections, but was taken captive and brutally interrogated for months by a stranger he could identify only by their scent of rosewater.

Not to tell local Iranian law enforcement how to do their job or anything, but seems to me that the torturer may have also been a florist. They should follow up on that.
The New Pornographers have a new video and they've thrown a bone to struggling actors like Paul Rudd.

The New Pornographers have a new video and they’ve thrown a bone to struggling actors like Paul Rudd. The video for “Moves” is cast entirely with people from the comedy world. Some you know and others and others that are more underground at the moment.

The best thing to happen in the video happens right at the top Paul Rudd and Bill Hader star as two pregnant men in a preview for the regrettably fake film Expectant Fathers. From there we go into the video which is done in the style of a film trailer showing the rise of the band, who are depicted by comics such as Wyatt Cynac and Kevin Corrigan. Another highlight is the coke binge scene. It effectively skewers out-of-control-band films like The Runaways, and explains Horatio Sanz’s drastic weight loss in one fell swoop. (Twenty Four Bit)
