Now I’m sure you’re expecting me to goof around and be funny with the smart alec from the hit NBC comedy. Well, I’m not an A-list TV comedy writer, so get off my back! I went the straightforward path and got some scoops on season eight and spoilers for Jim’s storylines.

Q: What is the new dynamic like with James Spader?

John Krasinski: Spader is unbelievable. I’ve been the biggest James Spader fan forever. To have him on set is a huge, huge coup for the show but also for me. I’m just really excited because his energy as a character is unlike anything we’ve ever had on the show.

Q: Is it different than we saw in the season finale?

JK: Not really. It’s a similar episode. He’s definitely that guy. He’s incredibly competent. We offered him a boss position and he wanted the CEO position and he got it. That’s how incredibly persuasive he is. Robert California, which I think is one of the greatest names and funniest characters ever.

Q: Michael Scott always wanted to be your friend as well as your boss. How does it change everything when you have a guy who’s not trying to do that?

JK: It’s really interesting. I feel like we’re definitely all inferior to James’ character and I think he very much knows that. He puts us on the spot immediately for being not so good at what we do which is weirdly incredibly motivating. We get to be a lot better very fast.

Q: What’s going on with Jim and Pam?

JK: Pam’s pregnant. Jenna, her commitment level is so high to get pregnant for this part. No, Pam’s pregnant and Jim’s finding it a lot more fun to be at work and just providing for his family. He starts to feel like with the office being run a little more efficiently he can have a lot more fun himself.

Q: Do you have scenes with different characters than you’ve had in the past?

JK: Yes, I will definitely start having different [scenes]. I know that I have a lot of fun stuff with Andy who needs my help in different ways, shapes and forms. I have a lot of stuff with Kevin, which is great. It feels a lot like the first couple seasons where just inter-office relationships are the thing that was so fun.

Q: Were you ever a guy who messed with people at work?

JK: No, I was never clever enough to do any sort of pranks whatsoever.

Q: How will Jim be messing with Dwight this season?

JK: We have a whole bunch of different pranks. One of my favorite ones will be at Schrute farms.

Q: One of my favorite episodes was when Jim started taking over a management position and started to tone it down, nobody liked him. He was trying to be fair and it just didn’t work. What were your thoughts on that storyline?

JK: I don’t think Jim was made for the leadership role. I think he’s a really good middleman and he’s a good cushion and filter for the rest of the office. I don’t see him running the office any time soon.

Q: Do we need a guy like Jim to take the bosses down a peg?

JK: I hope so, that way I’ll have a job.

Q: When you do movies, are they pegging you as the rom-com guy, or the male friend in the rom-com?

JK: I don’t think so, I hope not. I feel like right now, it’s just been a lot of fun to work on projects at all in the hiatus. It’s a short little window and I’ve been really lucky to be a part of some great movies.

She also revealed she knows who Steve Carell‘s replacement is, but isn’t allowed to say. If she’s sure that nothing will change her mind, I’ll put my nipple away. But only if she’s sure.

However, Sorkin was not the one spearheading this project, but rather”The Office“s John Krasinski, who hatched the idea while waiting in the notoriously long valet line at the hotel. Krasinski approached Sorkin, who at the time was busy with his little Facebook movie, but was eager to undertake it afterwards. How he is finding time for it while developing his HBO newsroom series “More As This Story Develops” is anyone’s guess. My theory is that he has Home Depot day laborers ghostwrite most of his scripts.

The series is expected to clock in at around eight hours, which can easily be covered with Marmont’s sordid history, which includes everything from Red Hot Chili Pepper recordings to John Belushi‘s 1982 death, to serving as the backdrop for Sofia Coppola‘s latest film.

Krasinski will also appear in the project in some capacity, but no details have been given about whether historical figures will be played or fictionalized. I hope it’s the former, if only so we aren’t given a glimpse of the life and times of Keith Hedger. (Deadline)

Damon recently confirmed that he will be directing a project in early ’12, so unless he’s got another super-secret project up his sleeve, expect Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses to be his directorial debut. As the title suggests, the film follows a dad and daughter through a multi-state crime spree. It’s possible that Damon will star, but no news has broken on that front yet.

In the same interview, Damon dropped the name of one of the stars of the film,”The Office“s John Krasinski. So in addition to Father Daughter Time serving as the first film Matt Damon directs, it could also serve as the first critically successful big-budget film for Krasinski, who resume includes License to Wed, Something Borrowed, and Leatherheads.

Krasinski is in talks to star in Nobody Walks, along with Rosemarie Dewitt (“United States of Tara“) and Olivia Thirlby (the best friend in Juno). The film is about a young artist who disrupts the life of a Los Angeles family by moving in with them. Since it’s Los Angeles, I assume the artist ruins the family by getting everyone addicted to cocaine. The film is co-written and directed by Ry Russo-Young (You Won’t Miss Me) – her co-writer is Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture).

“I definitely cried on the last day,” Krasinski said. “Wasn’t expecting it and then the last scene of the day was our goodbye of characters. We hadn’t said goodbye and so that was an incredibly existential black hole. It was like way too much happening. So there were definitely tears.”

The show has wrapped for the season but it was several weeks ago that Carell wrapped. Krasinski describes his feelings graphically. “Brutal, in no uncertain terms which I only say because it wasn’t so clear when it was happening. I think I was under the impression of my logical brain saying, ‘This is just what happens. People move on and they have contracts that expire and there’s nothing personal’. Then you realize that a huge part of your show, a huge part of your everyday life, a huge part of the energy around you every day is gone. It’s just sad to lose a friend like that. It was tough but it’s all fantastic and our energy level on set is tremendous and we all feel incredibly excited about what’s to come. Everybody was talking about a spinoff 2 ½, three years ago. This is the show sans Steve. It’s ‘The Office 2.’”

When Will Ferrell appeared last week as the new boss, Jim and Pam’s storyline had them showing off their baby a little too much for his tastes. They won’t beat that joke any further. Instead they’ll find all new ways to annoy their new boss.

“No, I think that played out in the episode, or at least was highlighted in that episode and we definitely find other relationship avenues to take.”

In the film, Ginnifer Goodwin (Big Love) plays Rachel, a single lawyer. Of course she’s a single lawyer. According to romantic comedies, all women are single lawyers. Anyway, she accidentally betrays her alpha-lady BFF Kate Hudson by sleeping with her fiancee Colin Egglesfield (the apparently shitty new Melrose Place), who she knew in law school. All the while, The Office‘s John Krasinski has been thoroughly friend-zoned/emasculated in the best friend role, and I’m pretty sure his character isn’t gay. Just… asexual?

In a word: yikes.

Bell’s character is an ambitious reporter "who thinks her greatest assets are her looks." I can’t argue with her there. Those are some great looks, but I feel ya, honey. People think it’s easy to report on Captain America casting and Hobbit rumors while maintaining these ruggedly handsome features. It’s not. Yesterday’s reports that The Office‘s John Krasinski was the frontrunner to play Captain America have been debunked. Obviously. Have you seen his hair? It’s clearly not cool enough.

So which muscle-y jerk is gonna play this guy? The list we reported on has been whittled down and a couple of names have been added. Producers are still keen on Tron Legacy‘s walking haircut Garrett Hedlund, though he has yet to test for the part. Mike Vogel is joined on the list by Chris Evans and Generation Kill‘s Wilson Bethel (aka who?).

The role was expected to be cast by March 1st and has obviously run into some problems. The options in America are pretty bland and we can’t just pop an Australian in the suit like we usually do. Stan Lee has really backed us into a wall with this whole America thing. (THR)

Heat Vision has posted a list of seven actors believed to be screen testing this week and next for The First Avenger: Captain America. They are Michael Cassidy (Smallville), Patrick Flueger (The 4400), Mike Vogel (She’s Out of My League), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Garret Hedlund (Tron Legacy), and Jim "John Krasinski" from The Office.

Okay, but who are the real choices? What? These are them? THESE are them?? These guys. Okay. Well, silly me. I thought you’d cast someone who could carry the film and it’s eventual Avengers spin-off. That’s my bad. Far be it from me to tell the director of The Wolfman and Jurassic Park III what he should do differently. (THR)
