Wait, What? Jim Jarmusch Gets Great Cast For Vampire Movie

Apparently even indie maverick Jim Jarmusch is helpless against the seductiveness of the sexy vampire movie. It’s been announced that he’s working on a “crypto-vampire love story,” and he’s gotten a pretty impressive cast to help him do it. Tilda Swinton, Michael Fassbender, Mia Wasikowska, and John Hurt are all going to be in his as-yet-untitled vampire movie.

I thought I was bored with vampires, but a vampire movie from Jim Jarmusch is pretty damn enticing, especially with this cast. Comparisons are being made with Jarmusch’s Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, but I don’t think we have any way on knowing if this is going to be Jarmusch at his most accessible or if this will be more like an Ozu movie with vampires. I’m happy though, because both of those sound pretty good. (The Playlist)

We’ve have a bounty of assorted wares from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two: The One Where Something Finally Happens. As you can see from the photos above, it is time for Harry and friends to finally eff up Voldemort‘s S. He’s had it coming for a long, long time.

The clip below is the film’s opening scene. Harry meets in private with a creepy old man in a cozy little beach house to discuss wands, and the way they feel. Kids, it’s really important that you don’t try to reenact this scene. It can only end badly for you.

Lars Von Trier Has ‘Melancholia’

Director Lars Von Trier in the master of making bleak, depressing movies that make you question the value of his art as entertainment. So it follows that his movies would be hot properties at any movie studio. And now, one of those studios, Magnolia, has picked up Von Trier’s latest film, entitled Melancholia. The movie is about the end of the world, with a flashback structure showing how it happened after an opening depicting the actual end. Bad marketing, Von Trier — everyone knows you put the Apocalypse at the END of the movie, so the rubes will stay until the end to see it. This way you’re shooting your bloody load right at the beginning. I like you, Lars, but you need to learn how to give the people what they want, like you did with Dogville. The movie stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård and Udo Kier. (via The Playlist)

Ridley Scott Talks ‘Alien’ Prequels

Ridley Scott discussed plans for two Alien prequels on Sunday while closing out the first ever Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival. According to Scott, the films will take place long before the original and will focus on "The Space Jockey," otherwise known as the giant skeleton encountered by Kane (John Hurt) in the first film.

The legendary director said he was upset about not being asked to participate in the original sequels, noting that he was unaware of Aliens until after James Cameron began filming. Had he been given the chance, he would have focused on the origin story of “The Space Jockey,” as he is now.

While he was tight lipped with details, Scott did mention that the plot will focus on the "untold story of how ‘The Space Jockey’ became a legend," including his exploit fighting the French in the south of England and his involvement with the drafting of the Magna Carta. (Collider)
