First ‘RoboCop’ Set Pics Show Off The New Suit, Orthopedic Shoes

The new face of justice is here and it looks like something Will.I.Am might wear. Spy photos from the set of the RoboCop remake’s first day of shooting made their way online over the weekend revealing Joel Kinnaman in the new costume. The immediate nerd reaction was appropriately nerdy with observations that it looks like Batman crossed with Iron Man. Which actually sounds pretty awesome. Not sure what all of the complaints are about, especially considering that this is a spy pic and we have no idea what Robo will look like after the post-effects process.

I ain’t mad at it. Definitely looks better than Phoenix Jones or M.A.N.T.I.S. which really was a legitimate fear. It’s best we hold judgement until we see a Photoshop of him riding a unicorn.

Hugh Laurie To Be The Bad Guy In ‘Robocop’ Remake

Hugh Laurie is most famous to American audiences for playing the lovably cranky medical genius Dr. House on House. But now it looks like he’s going to dial down the lovability and dial up the villainy as “the CEO of Omni Corp” in the upcoming reboot of the Robocop franchise – MGM has entered negotiations with Laurie to get him into the movie.

For those of you who haven’t committed the original Robocop to memory – first of all, what’s wrong with you? But also, the CEO of Omni Corp (the evil corporation of the movie) would appear to be an analogue to Ronny Cox’s character in the original movie. And if the remake goes in a similar direction, you can expect Laurie to be just one of many scoundrels who Robocop gets to blast into oblivion.

Assuming that Laurie and MGM reach an agreement, he’ll be joining a pretty impressive cast that includes Joel Kinnaman as Robocop, Abbie Cornish as Robocop’s wife, Samuel L. Jackson as some kind of media figure (media satire is a big part of the original movie), and Gary Oldman as the scientist who brings Robocop to life. (The AV Club)

‘Robocop’ Reboot Release Reiterated

So that Robocop remake isn’t dead after all. After a few stalled attempts, MGM has finally set a release date: August 9, 2013. So be sure not to schedule any TRON-themed parties for that weekend, you don’t want to have a conflict. There’s even a director and star attached – Elite Squad‘s Jose Padilha in the director’s chair and star of the AMC original series The Killing Joel Kinnaman as the chin underneath all the armor and cool guns.

The original Robocop came out in 1987 and spawned 2 sequels, a TV series, millions of dollars in merchandising, and at least one bizarre professional wrestling appearance, so it‘s easy to see why the studio has the confidence to give this a summer release. (The Playlist)

Orlando Bloom Can’t Handle ‘Lola Verus’, So Joel Kinnaman Jumps In

In one year, Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman has covered quite a bit of ground, having made the leap from “breakout star” to “guy who can pretty much play the same roles as Orlando Bloom.” Hmm. When I phrase it that way, it sounds more like a big step backwards than progress. Regardless, he will be the new co-star of Lola Verus, a romantic comedy starring Greta Gerwig as a woman who, after getting dumped, takes stock of her life. Like so many other romantic comedies. I hope she encounters a free spirit!

Orlando Bloom was originally tapped for the role, but he dropped out of late-stage negotiations, leaving producers scrambling for a replacement before production starts later this month in New York. Kinnaman’s buzz almost certainly preceded him in the negotiations, with prominent roles in the upcoming Safehouse with Ryan Reynolds, David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and AMC‘s “The Killing.”

Wow. He’s like a Swedish James Franco, or “Jann Franko,” if you will.

‘The Killing’ Star Joel Kinnaman Is Running The ‘Safe House’

Stars of AMC‘s “The Killing” are putting “The Walkind Dead” cast to shame. First, Mireille Enos got a gig running from the undead in World War Z, and now Joel Kinnaman has joined the Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds actioner Safe House.

Kinnaman, who is the son of Timothy Olyphant and Skeet Ulrich (not confirmed), is no stranger to Safe House director Daniel Espinosa‘s style. The two worked together on Espinosa’s breakout film Snabba Cash, and apparently that was the start of a beautiful relationship. Kinnaman has scored himself a plum role in the film as the guy who actually runs the safe house where Washington and Reynolds show up. Does that mean he gets a bullet in the head? Or is he corrupt?? Either way, I’m betting on bullet in the head. (THR)
