John Goodman is set to join The Coen Brothers‘ upcoming Inside Llewyn Davis. My dream of seeing him pull a piece on Justin Timberlake could become true!

The film stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan (with an offer out to Timberlake). Isaac will play the lead character, Dave van Ronk, a real-life 1960′s folk singer who was friends with Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and other famous musicians. There aren’t many details at this about the role Goodman will play but if history is any indicator, it will be the sweaty, violent guy. (Showbizz 411)

Remember that Coe brothers folk music project that was reported on a while back? Well, it just got the shot of hipness that might make it big news in the entertainment world: A lead role has been offered to none other than Justin Timberlake. The movie, called Inside Llewyn Davis, follows a “struggling folk musician born and bred in Queens who, despite being a talented singer and guitarist, just can’t seem to make ends meet playing music.” If Timberlake accepts the opportunity to work with the Coen brothers (uh, right, “if”), he’ll be joining Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac in the movie as Jim, a folk musician and husband to Carey Mulligan.

Timberlake has had a lot of acting work lately, but working with revered auteurs like the Coens could put him back in a role as high-profile and highly praised as his performance in David Fincher’s The Social Network last year. As Mr. Timberlake’s most trusted adviser, I’ll be sure to let him know this. I’ll also tell him you said “hey.” (Variety)

Remember that Coen Bros. musical project that they said they were working on a while back? Well, we now have a little bit more information on it, and it sounds a little … folky. The movie is set in the 60s Greenwich Village folk scene, and loosely based on legendary coffeehouse patriarch Dave van Ronk, who passed away in 2002.

Full Length 'True Grit' Trailer Is Intense, Features Bear On A Horse

Van Ronk came to be known as “the uncle” of this particular 60s folk scene – perhaps how one comes to be an “uncle” of a “scene” will be covered in the movie. Anyway, some big folk musicians came up under van Ronk, most famous among them none other than Bob Dylan. Van Ronk was also a political activist, getting arrested during the famous Stonewall Riots. This guy and his interesting (to say the least) life seem perfect for the Coen Bros. treatment. (24 Frames)

Coen Brothers Working On A Movie Scarier Than ‘The Big Lebowski’?

The movie The Big Lebowski is seen by many as the definitive portrait of man’s descent into madness. It portrays a world in which little is explained, and chaos reigns over all. So it’s alarming to say the least that the creators of that terrifying film, Joel and Ethan Coen, are reportedly considering doing a full-on horror movie. Ethan Coen recently said about the project:

“‘[W]e’re working on a couple of scripts now, one of which it would be fair to call a full-on horror movie. Frances McDormand is the monster.”

It’s been pointed out that Frances McDormand is Ethan Coen’s sister-in-law, so that part might be a joke. The rest of it sounds pretty cool, though – the Coens are formal masters, and horror movies are nothing if not a showcase for formal mastery. And True Grit showed that they can do a straightforward genre movie if they want to (although I hope this horror movie doesn’t turn out to be quite as straightforward as True Grit). (via Empire)
