Don't you sigh. This isn't about you. It's what the world needs.

Here’s some news that warms the heart. It just goes to show that if you work hard and also have Stephen King‘s super-writing powers coursing throughout your DNA, you too can find success in Hollywood.

King’s son, Joe Hill, just sold the film rights for his short story Twittering From The Circus Of The Undead to Mandalay Pictures. To be directed by Todd Lincoln, the story is told entirely via tweets from a teenage girl as she and her family are attacked by zombies during a road trip. But don’t groan yet. Sensing that the zombie trend could be reaching critical mass, producers have decided to take liberties with the story in order to keep it fresh. So, the zombies are out and there’s no word yet on what new Joe Hill-approved monster will replace them.

Maybe it’s Dr. Jekylls. We haven’t really seen too many Dr. Jekylls hit the big screen. Think he’s some kind of mediocre actor demon spawn? His new movie Horns could be the crutons on your hate salad.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Joe Hill, Horns is about a dude named Ig Perrish - whose birth certificate probably got smudged or something – who wakes up from a night of heavy drinking with a pair of horns growing from his head. (I’ve had worse hangovers.) Now he has to solve the mystery of the horns… oh, and also figure out who killed his girlfriend. Sounds like this could be a USA series too. “He’s horny for mysteries.”

LaBeouf will star as Ig, Keith Bunin (“In Treatment”) is writing the adaptation for Mandalay Pictures. Fun fact: Hill is the son of Stephen King. For reals – if I’m lying, may I grow horns on my head, or something retarded like that. (Variety)

Dreamboat and singer/possible dancer Jesse McCartney now has his next project McCartneyed up.

Dreamboat and singer/possible dancer Jesse McCartney now has his next project McCartneyed up: Tyler, the male lead of the new FOX drama “Locke and Key,” based on the comic by Joe Hill. Here’s a synopsis, bizarrely devoid of superheroes:

“[T]he story of Nina Locke (Miranda Otto) and her three children, Tyler (McCartney), Kinsey (Sarah Bolger), and Bode (Skylar Gaertner) who, after the brutal murder of Nina’s husband Rendell Locke, return to Keyhouse, his old family home in Massachusetts. There, they are pestered by an evil entity that’s determined to hold the family hostage one way or another until it gets what it wants.”

This is going to be a huge hit – have you seen Glenn Beck‘s ratings? Evil entities are huge right now. (via Deadline)

Director Steven Spielberg is trying his hand at television (again) with an adaptation of the popular graphic novel series, "Locke & Key." Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Josh Friedman are all on board for the project which is still searching for a network.
First released in 2008, Locke & Key revolves around three kids who end up watching over a secret, spooky New England mansion filled with mystical doors that transport them to different worlds and give them special powers (like turning into a ghost).
The source material was created by Joe Hill, the son of author Stephen King. Fans of "Quantum Leap" will remember that it was actually Dr. Sam Beckett who was responsible for inspiring most of King's major works. Considering that Hill was probably heavily influenced by his father, I think it's safe to add "Locke & Key" to Dr. Beckett's long list of time traveling accomplishments, right along side saving Jackie Kennedy and inventing the Heimlich Maneuver.
Godspeed, Dr. Beckett, wherever you are. (Vulture via Movie Line)
