The Jimi Hendrix Biopic Won’t Have ANY Jimi Hendrix Music. None.

While this sounds like a task that only James Franco would undertake (make a musical biopic that features NONE of the subject’s music in it), it’s a sad reality. Hendrix’s estate isn’t on board with the Andre 3000-starring film, and chose to withhold rights to the music, possibly just because they can.

Well, let’s hope Andre 3000 is working on some psychedelic new tunes that will fit the backdrop of the era of peace and love, because if you think you’re going to be hearing “Hey Joe,” you’re fooling yourself.

It will feature some early-era Hendrix performances of cover songs, such as ”Hound Dog,” “Wild Thing,” Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy,” and The Beatles‘ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” which is what everyone wants to hear.

Andre 3000 Still Won’t Make An Outkast Album, But Will Play Jimi Hendrix In Biopic

You know when you’ve got an important task to get done, but you procrastinate by doing lots of menial stuff that you’d never otherwise find yourself doing?

“I’ll get to studying for my exam just as soon as I clean up my DVR, floss, and call my grandmother.”

That’s what it would seem Andre 3000 is doing. Rather than get together with partner in crime Big Boi, Dre has signed on to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic entitled All Is By My Side. It will be directed by John Ridley, who directed Red Tails and…(wait for it)…Undercover Brother. The project will track the early years of Hendrix when he lived in Britain and will soon begin shooting in Ireland.

Meanwhile, a nation exhales as it finds its future a little less funky. At least Big Boi is bringing the ruckus.
