I never noticed at the time but, thanks to this supercut, the Fraggles really are the angsty, goth teenagers of the Jim Henson universe. I wouldn’t be surprised if Boober were a cutter.

9 Lesser-Known Muppets You’ll See In The New Movie

This weekend sees the release of The Muppets, the first theatrical Muppet film since 1999′s Muppets From Space. The film has been promoted like gangbusters over the last three months, with constant TV appearances by classic Muppets like Kermit the Frog, Ms. Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Animal and Rowlf the Dog. But while even novice Muppet fans recognize these top tier characters, many are clueless to the lesser known Muppets appearing in the film’s trailers and publicity stills. As such, we’ve established this guide to some of the great unknown (or at least lesser-known) Muppets you’ll be seeing in the new film. They may not have lines or much screen time, but they are valid characters just the same, and probably more fun to drink with than many of their human co-stars.

Crazy Harry

Crazy Harry is known for his love of explosions. This may not qualify exactly as pyromania, but it was close enough for the original Muppet producers to shift his character to the background after The Muppet Show’s first few years. He did have a great cameo in the original Muppet Movie, however, and will be on hand (hopefully with dynamite) in the new film.

Lew Zealand

Although most casual Muppet fans don’t know his name, Lew Zealand is pretty recognizable as the Muppet with the amazing boomerang fish. He’s also very creepy in his appearance. Still though, at least he doesn’t have an explosives fetish, like Harry.

Pepe the King Prawn

This bizarre character is relatively new to the Muppet world, first appearing on Muppet’s Tonight. Pepe has a heavy Spanish accent, and takes great pride in being a Prawn, as opposed to a shrimp. In fact, he looks down upon shrimp, which pretty much makes him the only bigoted Muppet, except of course for Big Bird, who hates Mexicans.

Lisa Cholodenko To Direct ‘Alexander And The No Good, Very Long Title’?

I remember reading Judith Viorst’s children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day a long time ago. I believe it was… I wanna say… two months ago? Anyway, I loved it, as do many children. However, like all great kids books, they have to get destroyed by Hollywood sooner or later. It’s nothing personal, just the laws of entertainment science.

Fox and producer Shawn Levy are ready to put Alexander through the Night At The Museum Money Making Machine, but they might bring in someone who’s not Levy to direct. *Phew* Actually, someone pretty respectable: Oscar nominee Lisa Cholodenko, the writer/director of The Kids Are All Right. Cholodenko, whose name reminds me of the Chocobo from the Final Fantasy games, would helm the live action adaptation. I’m guessing he wakes up with gum in his hair, and ends up accidentally launching a nuclear missile or something. Meanwhile, he screws everything up with his new love interest character. Hey, the original’s only 32 pages, so they’ll need story filler and lots of it.

Levy and Dan Levine will produce along with the Jim Henson Company. Oh, so he also gets hunted down by giant purple monsters. (Variety)
