Jim Gaffigan To Provide His Own G-Rated ‘Louie’ To CBS

Following the success of most everything that Louis C.K. does, CBS has found a way to take his Louie concept and allow for it to be aired on network TV: Take away the profane star and replace him with the family-friendly, but still-hilarious Jim Gaffigan.

Gaffigan has gotten a pilot deal to do a single camera sitcom with CBS based on a fictionalized version of his life. And he’s getting some help from Rescue Me creator Peter Tolan. Gaffigan seems to be one of the few personalities that can actually liven up a family sitcom while still keeping it in the bounds of good taste.

Not to put the cart before the horse, but this sounds like the rare network sitcom announcement that we can be a little optimistic about. Nice work CBS. Nice work Jim Gaffigan.

Jim Gaffigan, The Anti-Louie C.K., To Adopt C.K.’s Distribution Model

A few months ago, Louie C.K. made a lot of noise by self-releasing one of his stand-up specials for $5 online, serving as a guinea pig for how comedians can distribute their work for, you know, money.

It was an unmitigated success, though C.K. hasn’t disclosed how much money he made off the venture, but he was kind enough to post a snapshot of his PayPal account showing over $1 million had been grossed by Live at the Beacon Theater. While it’s unclear whether this model will achieve widespread success, it’s encouraged another comedian with a ravenously loyal fan base, Jim Gaffigan, to take the same approach, with one dollar of the five given to The Bob Woodruff Foundation, a charity benefitting veterans and their families.

NBC Does Something Right: Gives Jim Gaffigan A Show

Great news!! Jim Gaffigan has got his own show. Even better news!! It’s not on CBS.

That means he won’t be forced to ham it up in a multi-camera sitcom. Instead, NBC has purchased a single-camera comedy focusing on his life as a lazy guy married to a strong woman who are raising four kids in a small New York City apartment. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig for a set builder.

Jim Gaffigan is a brilliant comedian, so it’s nice to see NBC recognize a good thing when they see it. Though I sincerely doubt it will take on any dark themes, this move seems to be a result of the success FX has had with Louie. Or perhaps random guests from Chelsea Lately ran out of show ideas. The ‘Salvation Boulevard’ Trailer Compels/Confuses You

I had to re-watch this trailer for Salvation Boulevard to figure out exactly what was happening, but that’s cool. A lot is going at the Church of James Bond. I would definitely go to that church on Sundays, unless… y’know, someone got murdered at it.

In Salvation Boulevard, Pierce Brosnan plays the charismatic head of a super crazy mega church, who kills an atheist professor (Ed Harris) in front of a deadhead-turned-church-goer Greg Kinnear. This puts Kinnear in great danger – even Jim Gaffigan‘s character tries to kill him. Normally, Gaffigan’s a pretty cool guy, but witness the wrong murder and Gaffigan will take you apart like a hot pocket.

Based on a novel by Larry Beinhart, Salvation Boulevard is directed by George Ratliff.
