Josh Holloway, best known for playing con man and quip spouter Sawyer on "Lost," has chosen to accept Mission: Impossible 4 as his next project. He'll suit up with a cast that already includes Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg. No details on who he'll play or what he'll do or how the movie will include a plot. I do know the when. It's shooting in the fall for a December 2011 release.
Mission: Impossible 4 will be directed by Brad Bird, the guy who makes terrific animated movies. It's the first studio film for Holloway and the first live action studio film for Bird. Talk about the odd men out. If some teasing and serious intimidation on Tom Cruise's part doesn't cause rifts in production someone isn't taking full advantage of their elite Hollywood status. Give the rookies purple nurples while you still can, veterans! (THR)
Look what you're doing to Paul!!!
Jeremy Renner just gave us all one ticket to Bummersville. The actor recently revealed to Total Film that Paul Thomas Anderson's in the works scientology drama tentatively titled The Master has come to a grinding halt:
"I was really bummer about that," Renner revealed. "It really kind of stalled because when we were rehearsing – Phil, Paul and myself – we kept coming up against a wall that we couldn't overcome. Or at least Paul couldn't.
I'm sure he didn't mean for that to sound like a burn, but what a buuuuuuuurn. Jeremy could overcome it, Paul? Why the hell couldn't you?
At the press junket for Jack Goes Boating, Philip Seymour Hoffman also confirmed that the project is currently whack:
"I don't have any new information ['The Master']. I really mean that, I'm not being obstuse. I don't quite know what that is at the moment, but hopefully I will and hopefully I'll be part of something soon. It would be great to work with him again."
I was really looking forward to Anderson's take on The Cause — his made up word for Scientology — and Hoffman portraying a version of L. Ron Hubbard, the author of the classic novel Battlefield Earth. Everyone keep your fingers crossed so tightly that they bleed. It's the only way this project may get back on track. (ThePlaylist)
Everyone wants a piece of that Jennifer Garner ass! Ahem, I mean talent. The in demand actress is in talks to star in Better Living Through Chemistry opposite Jeremy Renner, another actor who's grabbin' up roles. Garner has also signed on for The Odd Life of Timothy Green. Dolla dolla bills, ya'll. Gotta support those Affleck kids somehow. Vulture has the deets:
Better Living Through Chemistry is a dramatic thriller about a small-town pharmacist (Renner) stuck in a loveless marriage who embarks on an affair with a "trophy wife" (Garner). She introduces him to prescription drugs, as it goes, and that’s when “things spin out of control” as the pair begins to devise a scheme to off Garner’s husband.
The modern-day fable Timothy Green centers around a child-prodigy musician and his parents: Garner would play the mother, and we hear an offer is out to Mark Wahlberg to star opposite her as the dad, though he's expected to pass. (Vulture also hears that Joaquin Phoenix is on the "next step" of candidates to be offered the part if Wahlberg does say no.)
Peter Hedges (About a Boy) is signed on to direct the latter of the two films, and if Joaquin gets cast Hedges will have his hands full trying to keep the looney tunes actor away from the impressionable young talent. Number one rule on set is no matter what Joaquin tells you, he DOES NOT have the secrets to success. His lessons always end in pooping on someone's personal property.
Bring it on, witches.
Jeremy Renner recently spoke to Norwegian site Dagsavisen in loud, deliberate speech patterns to explain that he might work for breadcrumbs in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. He also stated that original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, may play his sister and fellow witch hunter for director Tommy Wirkola and producers Adam McKay and Will Ferrell.
There's no official press release yet, so don't consider this a lock. It's about time Renner returned to comedy. He showed such promise in National Lampoon's Senior Trip. (Twitch)

The Hurt Locker's Jeremy Renner will co-star with Tom Cruise in the fourth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, Deadline is reporting. Yesterday it was rumored that Paramount was in search of a younger actor to join the film with the hope that he could take over the staring role once Cruise steps aside. But the studio ultimately decided on the 41-year-old Renner, who they felt had a "Daniel Craig quality."
While Renner is a great actor, I really don't understand the logic behind bringing him in. After Knight and Day bombed, it was reported that Paramount wanted a star to help compensate for Cruise's waning box-office appeal. Is Renner the man for that job? If you really want this thing to be a hit, you need to cast Taylor Lautner or maybe The Situation. That's how you get asses in the seats, damn it.
Hey, here's the poster for Ben Affleck's Bank Rob Town – Population: Bankrobbers. Did you know that there are 300 bank robberies a year in Boston? It's true. OR, SO THE TRAILER FOR THE TOWN WOULD LIKE YOU TO BELIEVE.
I've actually checked the FBI crime stats for the past 10 years. On the low end it's 140 per year, and on the high it's 300 bank jobs per year (225 average)… for the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Affleck cooked the numbers. If he had said "Greater Boston area" I'd let it go. Now I can't.
Enjoy your nun dress, jerk.
Miss New England 2008 Attractive women in New England are few and far between, so when you meet one you had better jump on it. It doesn't matter where you meet. The bar, the Market Basket, and the bank that you are currently robbing are all perfectly acceptable places to pick up a comely, young lass. And that's exactly what Ben Affleck does in the trailer for his second directorial effort The Town. In this daring sequel, Jeremy Renner plays Will Hunting and Affleck reprises his role as Chuckie, who are now bank robbers inexplicably (note to self: fact check this later). Chuckie meets Rebecca Hall during a robbery and develops an attraction to her, even though he's got Blake Lively at home in denim cut-offs. Then Don Draper shows up and is all Mr. FBI Guy and there are a few shoot-outs and Slipknot masks. All in all, it looks really good! I'll see it. WATCH A MOODY MEDITATION ON WHAT DRIVES ONE TO STEAL, AND ALSO BLAKE LIVELY IN DENIM CUT-OFFS AFTER THE JUMP…
I'd say he took the news rather well.Marvel Studios recently gave Edward Norton a polite f*ck off by informing the actor they wouldn't need him to reprise his role of The Hulk in the upcoming The Avengers movie to be directed by Joss Whedon. The studio is looking to cast an unknown, a.k.a. someone they can pay with turkey sandwiches. According to HitFix, this wasn't Norton or Whedon's idea, as the pair had recently shared their enthusiasm with Marvel about Norton returning. Norton even cleared out his day planner for the project, using puffy Hulk stickers to mark the dates he'd need open for shooting. This news doesn't come as much of a surprise considering Marvel is notorious for dumping actors in favor of the almighty dollar. They probably figure they've already got Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Don Cheadle, and Jeremy Renner, so people are going to get their asses to the theater whether Norton's in it or not. Also, during the making of The Incredible Hulk, Norton and Marvel butted heads over almost every aspect of the film. Maybe the studio is just trying to prevent the same from happening on The Avengers. Joss Whedon would put Norton in a coma with that alien-like cranium of his.
YAAAH-HAAWWW!!!! Pull yerselves up a rock and knock back some apple jack. We've got usselves a casting round-up, and it's gonna be a hog killin' good time.JEREMY RENNER – is in talks to play Hawkeye in Joss Whedon's Avengers. He's previously denied his involvement with the project, but he's ready to talk now that the pieces are falling into place. Will this disclude him from appearing in PT Anderson's The Master? Let's see? Dress up as the Marvel Universe's archery guy or piss off all the Scientologists in Hollywood? Here's a pile of cash and a brochure for archery lessons. (THR)NEAL McDONOUGH – is in talks to play Dum Dum Dugan in Joe Johnston's Captain America. Dugan is a member of the Howling Commandos and Nick Fury's second-in-command. I'd report further but looking at McDonough hurts my eyes. He should really be required to wear a hat in trenchcoat when out in public. Like a ninja turtle. (Deadline)
Jeremy Renner is undoubtedly on many a casting wishlist thanks to his Oscar-nominated performance in The Hurt Locker. But that doesn't mean you have to take every role Jeremy. The actor has confirmed he will take a role in James McTiegue's The Raven, a movie that centers on the final days of Edgar Allan Poe as he hunts for a serial killer inspired by his stories. I don't remember that from high school English. Appears that Ms. Fitzgerald was asleep at the wheel. But the really distressing news is that he's considering the lead role in Peter Berg's Milton Bradley-adaptation Battleship. He's interested in the role but needs to decide if he would rather take a super-secret role for which he's had five meetings. Trust me, Jeremy. Whatever the other role is, you want to take it over board game sailors fighting aliens. Don't throw away your Oscar goodwill before you even win it. And make sure to use hand sanitizer after contact with Mickey Rourke. It's the only way to prevent the spread of career suicide. (NY Times)
THE HURT LOCKER – The Way You Dont Die Clip – Watch more Movie TrailersIn the latest released clip from Summit's upcoming war flick about the military's bomb squad in the Middle East, Colonel Reed (David Morse) gets Staff Sgt. Wiliam James (Jeremy Renner) to open up about just how many bombs he's blown up working for the EOD. I've seen the film and when put in the full context of the story, even this little dialogue piece is tense. I kept thinking Renner's character was gonna get the sh*t chewed out of him by Morse for being a loose cannon. Turns out Morse's character's a bit of a wildman himself, I guess. Today, Summit released two new clips and six new stills from the upcoming Kathryn Bigelow-directed war movie, The Hurt Locker, opening June 26th. The first clip, entitled "Die Comfortably," features loose-cannon Staff Sgt. William James (the badass Jeremy Renner) resigning himself to the fact that if the bomb he's diffusing goes off, his armor isn't doing squat to save his life. The other clip, which you can watch after the jump, is called "Cell Phone, Two O'clock," and gives a tiny clip of the film's tension quotient, as St. Matt Thompson (Guy Pearce) – bedecked in full blast suit and all – is compromised by an insurgent with a cell phone-cum-detonator. And the guy's got Thompson's number… on speed dial… Check out the clip after the jump. We'll have a review for anxiety-inducing The Hurt Locker coming soon, but suffice it to say my sphincter was clenched the entire movie so as to avoid dropping a deuce in the pristine Wilshire Screening Room. And I want to be invited back there.
