But how do they stack up?

Ask nearly the entire damn cast of HBO’s Girls: There’s no nepotism quite like Hollywood nepotism. It’s why we see too many weak-sauce children of respected Hollywood celebs fumble and bumble their way through careers in attempts to grab the respect of their established parents.

Sometimes it works; in rare cases, the scion is even better at it than the parent. All too often though, Hollywood heirs are the equivalent of that pain-in-the-ass 21 year old who’s running the produce section of his dad’s grocery store into the ground just because he can. Here are 10 descendants of actors who have their own acting careers — with very mixed results.

1. Eva Amurri

Parent: Susan Sarandon

The smokin’ hot daughter of one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses hasn’t done a whole lot in her adult acting career that doesn’t involve, well, being snokin’ hot. My personal favorite role of Amurri’s — for completely legitimate reasons not involving her naked tatters is the stripper student vying for Hank Moody’s affections in season 3 of Showtime’s Californication. Her Wikipedia filmography has her credited in a couple dozen projects; if you can name more than three of them without looking, I’d be surprised. Verdict: Pretty wack, all things considered

2. Colin Hanks

Parent: Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks’ oldest son, who Tom had in his very early 20s, has earned decent indie cred starting with 2002′s Orange County. But he’s never managed to nab any other leading roles like his old man; perhaps his most noteworthy role was as the season 6 big baddie in the by-then-declining Showtime show Dexter, though he also handled himself well earlier this year as a meek police officer trying to take down Billy Bob Thornton in FX’s Fargo. There’s nothing outwardly offensive or untalented about Colin, but he’ll always be the Michael Jordan Jr. to his dad. Verdict: Not too shabby

3. Jamie Lee Curtis

Parent: Janet Leigh

I’ll try not to write with too much bias, considering Curtis was one of my earliest film crushes and is the protagonist in my favorite horror film of all time (1978′s Halloween). Objectively speaking, however, Curtis is a very average actress at first following in the Scream Queen footsteps of her Psycho alumna mother before branching off into beloved ’80s fare, including 1983′s Trading Places (her first topless scene) and 1988′s A Fish Called Wanda, which earned her her first Golden Globe nomination (she brought the award home for 1994′s True Lies). All said, I’m sure Marion Crane would be proud of Laurie Strode. Verdict: Decent…and wouldja just LOOK AT THAT BOD?!?!?

4. Kate Hudson

Parent: Goldie Hawn

Kate Hudson had precisely one memorable film role: Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe‘s 2000 semi-autobiographical Almost Famous. Everything after that has been has been a clusterf*** of romantic comedies whose plots are all interchangeable and a few episodes of Glee. She’s not an insufferable actress to watch per se, but no one on Earth will ever say, “Wow, that Kate Hudson performance was truly memorable!” She’s known more these days for being in a bikini than being a meaningful actress. In other words, she’s a chip off the ol’ block. Verdict: Meh

5. Kiefer Sutherland

Parents: Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas

Ol’ Kiefer is easily one of the scariest actors of all time: When I was a child, he put the fear of Black Jesus in my heart as Ace Merrill in 1987′s Stand By Me and again in the following year’s horror fantasy classic The Lost Boys. He’s had a robust career over the past three decades, often playing the brooding bad guy or the brooding good guy or the brooding unseen narrator, that gravelly timbre getting under your skin. It wasn’t until 24 that he became synonymous with Jack Bauer and going whole days without taking a piss. Before 24, Kiefer was on the verge of becoming like Papa Donald: one of those old actors everyone knows but sorta forgets about until someone brings them up. Verdict: Bauerlicious

Follow us to the next page for five actors who completely outshined their famous parents — although we can’t really explain why.

We’re a day late to the party on this one, but it seems, due to the 20th anniversary of Friends, that the show will just be popping up over the course of the next month or so. Yesterday, we discussed the Central Perk pop-up, and today, the three ladies of Friends, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and Courney Cox, all took to Jimmy Kimmel Live! for a mini-reunion.

Jimmy, naturally, played Ross.

Here’s the video, so get ready for a nostalgia ice bucket to get dumped on your head:

Brad Pitt, in addition to being a personal lubricant for any woman over the age of 20, is one of the generation’s most respected actors, having logged decades worth of Oscar-quality films.

But as with many actors of his caliber, his start was less auspicious — there are a bunch of late-’80s and ’90s stinkers with his young, beautiful mug in them. Some actors get lucky right out the gate (see: Jennifer Lawrence), but most actors that anyone cares about had to slog through bit parts in horrible movies to make a name.

In a cutthroat industry like Hollywood, we shouldn’t chastise them. Hell, we all gotta make rent. But that doesn’t make it any less schadenfreudelicious to look back on some of the awful early roles of actors who can now buy and sell us several times over.

Jennifer AnistonLeprechaun (1993) No one will pretend for a second that Jennifer Aniston has any cred as a “meaningful actress” — I’m guessing her shot at Oscar glory is as unlikely as her chances at a meaningful long-term relationship. But one year before she became Rachel Greene, she starred with Willow in horror comedy Leprechaun. This series is still cranking out sequels and prequels; no telling if she’s gonna add to her rumored $11o million net worth by reprising her role.

Leonardo DiCaprio – Critters 3 (1991) The funniest thing about this role is the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio pretty much looks like the same 17-year-old punk 23 years later. Still, it’s funny to see Martin Scorsese‘s go-to actor competing with a bunch of nasty Furbies with sharp teeth in the second sequel to an 80s B-movie franchise. Unfortunately, Leo makes it through the film without getting his punchable face chewed through.

Steve Carell – Curly Sue (1991) Steve Carell is the most aiiight comedian on the face of the earth, so I’m not sure if anyone missed much from his quick, nobody role as a waiter in this charming early-1990s vehicle for the surviving Belushi brother.

Damon WayansBeverly Hills Cop (1984) The funniest Wayans brother (by far) offers Eddie Murphy his bananas in a pretty funny bit role that served as something of a predecessor to his Men on Film bit on In Living Color.

Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger – Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994) This movie is indescribably bad, and features a pre-”awright, awright, awright” McConaughey basically being an evil redneck to Zellweger’s obnoxious, interminably screaming minx. Don’t watch this. Consider yourself warned.

Forced by his supplier to smuggle “a smidge of marijuana” across the border, Jason Sudeikis‘s low-level pot dealer devises the perfect plan — hire a fake family and mask the entire operation as a nice family vacation. Of course, things go off the rails as they’re forced to strip by druglords, pursued Johnny Law, encounter swingers, and suffer from a pretty heinous groin injury. Ah, reminds me of my own family’s summers at the lake.

Sorry for being out of breathe. It’s just that I got this news I didn’t see coming. It really knocked the wind out of me. I hate to be the one to tell you, but there’s talk of FX adapting Fargo for a television series. I know. That’s hard cheese.

It’s only because I love Fargo that I’m opposed to this. It’s poisoning the well. The last thing television needs is another crime procedural. Even if that procedural centers around an extremely pregnant investigator. The saving grace is that this is in FX’s hands and they’ve got a great track record. But honestly, just focus on making the Powers television series awesome enough to air and don’t go down this road.

Do you really want to be in the company of these shows?

The Firm

It took ten years to develop a small screen version of John Grisham‘s The Firm and about ten minutes for it to flop. The series debuted this past winter to the weakiest premiere numbers NBC has ever suffered. And this is the network that aired .quarterlife we’re talking about here. Oof.

Ferris Bueller

It was a foolhardy venture to try and adapt a character as beloved as Ferris Bueller for the small screen. Audiences weren’t into seeing the character played by not-Matthew Broderick and the show was crushed by the competition — Major Dad. It is notable however for giving America a short glimpse of Jennifer Aniston. However, her work here wasn’t popular enough to influence America’s choice of haircut.

Blade: The Series

I didn’t want to believe it at first either, but Spike TV‘s Blade: The Series was actually really good. Like surprisingly good. It’s a shame that it didn’t make it to a second season. As always, lead actor Sticky Fingaz is a man ahead of his time.

Wanderlust, staring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, hits theaters Friday, February 24st. But, in order to hold you over until then, we’ve got the exclusive red band trailer, and it’s literally got something for everybody. If for some reason you’re not a fan of laughter, you’ll still be able to enjoy the naked breasts and implied bestiality. And let’s not forget the psychedelic drugs. See, something for everyone!

The Judd Apatow produced film (directed by David Wain) tells the story of a couple from New York who flee the city in search of something more. What they end up finding is a commune full of promiscuous hippies. Compare that to what the travelers found in The Hills Have Eyes, and I think it’s safe to say the Wanderlust characters really lucked out.

If Wanderlust the film is as good as this new trailer, David Wain will have pulled ahead of the pack as the funniest director working today. The plot isn’t anything we haven’t seen before — stressed out big city couple head out to the country. The difference here is the supporting cast. Justin Theroux, Joe Lo Truglio, Alan Alda, Kerri Kenney, and co-writer Ken Marino look to really dive into their roles to make life more awkward for Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston. Think of it as Green Acres with more casual nudity.

Jennifer Aniston is a horrible boss. Alongside Kevin Spacey and Colin Farrel, she forms a trifecta of crappy work superiors in Horrible Bosses, out this week. How horrible is she? She hits on her male employees. The horror.

Horrible Bosses is exactly the safe kind of mainstream comedy you’d expect it to be. It’s amusing and likeable because the three guys are funny. So no point lamenting the missed opportunity for a really dark satire, because they were never going to make that movie. At least this trio kept it entertaining.

Nick (Jason Bateman), Dale (Charlie Day) and Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) all have lousy bosses. Harken (Kevin Spacey) demeans and overworks Nick. Julia (Jennifer Aniston) sexually harasses Dale (it’s funny because it’s not a man intimidating a woman). Bobby Pellit (Colin Farrell) is just coked-up and crazy.

There's Funny Stuff In 'Horrible Bosses' Red Band

You know Hollywood’s not going to make a movie about really killing your boss. Horrible Bosses at least has fun with three dorks exploring the underworld. Kurt especially makes continuous asides like he’s really reacting to the process of finding a hired killer. They’ve seen Strangers on a Train and Throw Mamma from a Train but apparently not 9 to 5, and you get some slapstick as they bumble through reconnaissance missions.

You know exactly where the story is going and it’s all to keep the heroes innocent and likeable. It’s pretty funny when Kurt plays petty pranks with Pellit’s toiletries. Dale has some good Charlie Day freak-outs. Bateman gets some good lines too so he’s not relegated to straight man. These three work together, and it’s kind of nice to see this generation’s reliable studio comedians emerge.

6 photosJennifer Aniston

The bosses get to be extreme too. Spacey is basically doing Swimming with Sharks light, but Aniston really relishes saying the P word and talking about touching herself. If you have trouble imagining a man disliking Aniston’s advances, consider that Dale actually has a loving fiancée he wants to be faithful to. Or, remember that in real life, oversexed aggressive women don’t look like Jennifer Aniston.

I was going to compliment one twist on a standard cliché, but then they followed it up with the usual cliché so it would be a spoiler. I thought Horrible Bosses was a little funnier than Bad Teacher. If you’re hating on The Hangover Part II, at least they’re going somewhere with their formula. You’d rather have an “original” plotline that plays it safe? Well, at least I’ve gotten to see Rubber and Detention, so I can let these summer comedies coast.

Behold, three new posters for Horrible Bosses, a new comedy directed by Seth Gordon (King of Kong). The posters feature the tortured trio – Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day – against brightly colored backgrounds, wishing that their awful bosses were “no longer among the living.” That’s tip-toe language for “dead and not necessarily loving it.” These are kinda just remixes of the first set, which also feature such sinister supervisors as Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston, but overall the previews have gotten me psyched for this one. I like my comedy the way I like my coffee: with a lot of attempted murdering.

Bossocide will commence in theaters July 8th, 2011. (Collider)

The promising trailer (see inset) for Horrible Bosses has expectations raised for this movie, but those out there who haven’t seen the trailer still need to be sold, so why not play to the strengths of the cast? Kevin Spacey is downright scary as a boss, as Swimming with Sharks showed, Jennifer Aniston’s character is silly enough to be funny, and Colin Farrell…just look at him. Gold.

These posters highlight the employee/boss couplings introduce us to the bosses using a few choice words like “psycho,” “tool,” and “maneater.” Watch out boy, she’ll chew ya up.

Not relating to the posters, but interesting nonetheless is the fact that Horrible Bosses is directed by Seth Gordon, the man behind King of Kong, the funniest documentary in the solar system. Of course, he’s also got Four Christmases to his name, but we’ll let his work on”Modern Family,”"Parks and Recreation,” and”The Office” offset that travesty.

There’s one thing that separates great comedies from merely good ones: Murder. And the latest murder-comedy is Horrible Bosses, about three guys (Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis) who plot to murder their respective terrible bosses (Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Colin Farrell) with the help of a murder expert (Jamie Foxx). Then, things go exactly as planned, with the wacky trio murdering their bosses and not getting caught. Just kidding, things go hilariously awry.

My favorite part of the trailer is the appearance at the end from Wendell “William ‘Bunk’ Moreland” Pierce. I’m pretty excited to see this when it comes out on July 8th. I might even…kill to see it. Probably not, though.

Whether it’s (in order of not douchey to very douchey) Brad Pitt, Vince Vaughn or John Mayer, nobody seems to want to get with Jennifer Aniston. Charlie Day (“It’s Always Sunny”) gets inducted into that club in the new movie Horrible Bosses. The first preview pic above shows Day not getting friendly with Aniston’s nympho dentist character.

Horrible Bosses sounds pretty fun. Directed by Seth Gordon (King of Kong), the film stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Day as three pals downtrodden by their terrible employers – Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Aniston – who they decide to kill. If you haven’t at least considered the possibility of beating your boss within an inch of his or her life, you are not an American.

The employers will attempt to downsize their supervisors in theaters July 8th. These images first appeared in Entertainment Weekly. (The Playlist)

Just Go With It isn’t nearly as bad as Grown-Ups. Just Go With It is just stupid. It’s not mean or hateful. If it weren’t my job to evaluate it, I wouldn’t really care, but here we are so this is why Just Go With It sucks a little less than Grown-Ups.

Daniel Macabee (Adam Sandler) is a player using the sympathy card when he tells the ladies about his abusive wife. And he’s a plastic surgeon so he has access to lots of hotties. He thinks Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) is actually the right girl for him, but now he’s got to convince her he’s getting divorced, because she’s no home wrecker.

Danny gets his assistant Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) to play the ex-wife, but she answers a call from her kids in front of Palmer, so now he’s got to pretend the kids are his. Forget about why Palmer is okay with all this. It’s a bit too soon for any of this to be an issue if you ask me. I mean, meeting the kids on the third date?

Luckily, Katherine’s daughter Maggie (Bailee Madison) is an aspiring actor, so she and Michael (Griffin Gluck) play along. Basically, the whole movie is about bad improv, as an excuse to justify bad improv. If you find liars fumbling for answers funny, then this is the movie for you. Personally, if it’s not Jon Lovitz, I’m not interested. Yeah, I said it.

The easy plastic surgery jokes are lame. They reference “Californication,” Saw and Avatar to show they’re paying attention. They dip into erectile dysfunction and irritable bowel syndrome in act one, and Sandler does 3-4 riffs on the price of shoes in a single scene. When Katherine’s college rival Devlin (Nicole Kidman!) shows up, it’s just embarrassing. I know she thinks she’s appealing to the populist audiences with something like this, but she should at least hold out for a Fockers movie.

Of course, it’s a total shock when Katherine dresses up hot, because you could never tell she’s attractive when she wears T-shirts and sweaters. I mean, my God, she wears glasses! Ugh, glasses, how awful.

You end up realizing halfway through that Sandler just wanted to go back to Hawaii again. They even set that up from the start. I should have caught on. Come on, you already shot a movie there. Go on your own time. There’s actually a hula dance off at the end.

At an hour and 45 minutes, the movie is way too long for this premise. You’ve got to be able to bring this sort of thing in under 90. The first thing they could cut is the awful prologue about Daniel’s cheating fiancé and he Jersey Shore friends and the Maccabee family’s big prosthetic noses. The wedding ring schtick doesn’t need an explanation. It’s just something he does until he meets the right girl.

I’m most disappointed that the trailers make this out to be a much darker, funnier premise. I thought it was supposed to be about Sandler killing off his fake kids for sympathy. The TV spots show the one scene where he announces his plan to make the fake kids disappear. That’s false advertising.

Zach invited Tila Tequila to be interviewed and the two were having a great time. Then Zach ran out of questions, and had to bring on Jennifer Aniston to talk about Just Go With It.

I think we’re all in agreement that this is the rare time where we’re interested in what Tila Tequila has to say. (Funny Or Die)

Like the trailer for the film, I’m just going with it. Why fight it, really? Awful beach background. A fist bump. None of it matters. If Adam Sandler still makes you laugh, you’ll see this movie. But poor Jennifer Aniston. She used to have so much promise. Why won’t a nice man marry her already and give her a baby? (JoBlo)

Matt Damon and Emily Blunt were running away from a looming green screen until the Universal marketing department decided they wanted them to run away from a giant Terrence Stamp shadow. No wait, two! TWO giant Terrence Stamp shadows! If this movie doesn’t deliver on superfluous Terrence Stamp shadows I’m going to be extremely disappointed. (Collider)

Alex Pettyfer plays an alien, or Ryu from Street Fighter, in this DJ Caruso-directed film. When the whoevers or whatevers come to kill him they’re going to get a big surprise. Blue Gak to the face, or a dose of human emotion from an alien life form that will give them pause. (Collider)

Sandler plays a guy who gets girls by wearing a wedding ring and telling them that his wife is awful to him. Then he meets a girl (Brooklyn Decker) without the ring, but she finds the ring and is all like, “WTF?” So Sandler gets his frumpy (but not really) best friend, played by Jennifer Aniston, to pretend she’s his ex-wife, only to realize that she turns hot when she wears her hair down. Then some kid puts his face on Sandler’s weiner. I’m sure there’s more to it, but not much.

Just Go With It hits theaters February 11, 2011.

Jennifer Aniston is Adam Sandler’s ‘Pretend Wife’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jennifer-aniston-is-adam-sandlers-pretend-wife/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jennifer-aniston-is-adam-sandlers-pretend-wife/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Jennifer Aniston has signed on to costar with Adam Sandler in The Pretend Wife. Dennis Dugan is expected to direct the romantic comedy but much is being kept under wraps about this project, including the plot. All we know is that the original title was Holiday in Hawaii. It's unclear whether a fat guy will fall down or if Rob Schneider will play a weird ethnic dude. We're not even sure if someone will be injured in a testicle-hitting mishap. But I vow that once I know, you will know. (THR)
