Unless it's Ezekiel 25:17, I'm probably useless here.

I would say “Set your DVRs for American Bible Challenge on Game Show Network tomorrow night!” but if you are the type of person that watches Bible game shows, then you probably don’t own a DVR, so just make sure you’re infront of your 1989 Magnavox TV when it airs tomorrow.

(That’s right, I implied that enthusiastic Christians are more likely to own outdated televisions. Do your worst.)

The show is pretty much just what it sounds like, as three teams answer questions about the Bible in a family-friendly setting. It’s so innocuous and good-willed (they give their winnings to charity) that it’s hard to make fun of the show without seeming like a total dick.

But I’ll consider that my “Bible Challenge.” Here we go…

The show seems to get hit by traffic going both ways, as it’s clearly marketed towards Christians, but doesn’t get particularly religious out of a fear of upsetting anyone. The show fails to grasp that anyone watching a Bible game show is either a devout Christian that won’t be offended by religious overtones or a total masochist, so either way, the show would really be better served by acknowledging, “Hey. You know who really likes the Bible? Overbearing Christians. Let’s cater to them.”

I’m just waiting for the episode where the smug atheist Religious Studies major runs the board, then gives all his winnings to GLAAD.

Don't shoot the messenger. This is Jeff Foxworthy's fault.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been straddling the fence on the upcoming presidential election, patiently waiting until the day when Jeff Foxworthy tells us who we should vote for. That day is today.

Foxworthy, who has made a career letting people know that they might be rednecks and are not smarter than 4th graders, has thrown his mighty political weight behind Republican hopeful Mitt “The Mittmaker” Romney.

The fact that Romney grew up in Michigan and governed Massachusetts might lead one to believe that he might not win over the southern redneck vote, but then we are reminded that the other candidate is black and it all sort of makes sense.

The best part of this story is, when asked about his backing of Romeny, Foxworthy said, “We don’t elect presidents based on personality. We did that in 2008.”

If you’re an incumbent president with the last name of “Obama,” you might draw the ire of a redneck.

They prefer "rural-Americans," Jeff.

“If you’re playing a sports announcer for a church league in a movie called Crackerjack…you might be Jeff Foxworthy.”

Foxworthy and his powers of redneck observation are jumping on board Crackerjack, a film about an irresponsible mobile home resident who tries to get his life back on track, but gets waylaid by a church softball league. The titular Bo “Crackerjack” Bailey Jr. will be played by newbie Wes Murphy, while Foxworthy will take a turn as a softball announcer. Only time will tell if he is able to clear the high bars set by both Bob Uecker in Major League and Bob Costas in Baseketball.

Oddly, I experienced a wave of nostalgia in reading that Foxworthy is joining this film. He just seems to be the most affable man in the universe, and, after 20 or so years, I’ve decided to forgive him for ushering in the insufferable era of blue-collar comedy.

This project sounds as though it will be in the vein of”Eastbound and Down” more than anything, and is being marketed as a sports comedy. I’m cautiously optimistic, but if I get so much as a whiff of Larry the Cable Guy, I’m closing the book on this one. (Variety)
