Other Jeff Buckley Biopic Decides To Cast Reeve Carney

After bumming around Hollywood for awhile and finding itself, Jake Scott’s Jeff Buckley biopic is ready to duel with its rival biopic Greetings From Tim Buckley. The untitled biopic has seen Tim Buckley’s challenge of casting Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots and has raised it by casting Reeve Carney. Carney is best known for starring as Peter Parker/Spiderman in Broadway‘s Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark. Carney comes from a strong musical background whereas Gossip Girl‘s Badgley owns an iPod, so this casting already looks like a step in the right direction.

Of course, should Badgley want to level the field a little bit, I’m sure that could be arranged. Shouldn’t be too hard to make it look like an accident. (Deadline)

Imogen Poots Hits The Road With ‘Greetings From Tim Buckley’

With feuding Snow White films currently jockeying to embarrass one another at the box office, we nearly forgot about the rival Jeff Buckley biopics in development. Greetings From Tim Buckley seems to be the first out of the gate while Jake Scott’s Buckley biopic is hanging around and playing Nintendo (that’s no way to go through life, Jeff Buckley biopic!). Dan Algrant’s Tim Buckley has already cast Penn Badgley for its lead and now has leaped forward again with the casting of Imogen Poots.

The up-and-coming Fright Night star will play a young woman who meets Buckley as he prepares to perform a tribute to his famous father at the St. Ann’s Church. The two embark on a four day journey that changes both of their lives and gives the singer a better understanding of his absent father. I’m assuming the lesson he learns is that hitting the road with random, hot, blond 22-year olds is awesome. (Deadline)

Hallelujah! Jeff Buckley Biopic To Bring The Laffs

Jeff Buckley enjoyed a short career, but his rabid following and influence makes it small wonder that singer-songwriter is getting the biopic treatment after passing away at the age of 30 in 1997.

The untitled film will be helmed by Jake Scott, director of Welcome to the Rileys. Scott cut his teeth directing music videos by R.E.M., U2, and Radiohead, so it should be interesting to see how this impacts the use of Buckley’s music in the film.

What’s also interesting is that the film is written by Ryan Jaffe, who wrote The Rocker. Interesting because I am surprised anyone allowed Jaffe near a keyboard after that film. Take the sour with the sweet, and so on.

Jeff Buckley‘s music had a profound reach on many prominent musicians, and his untimely drowning in Memphis left many wondering what could have been. That said, he didn’t achieve a remarkable amount of success or notoriety during his brief career, so this movie will prove a revelation to many that aren’t familiar with his work.

Please, dear God, don’t let the producers cast Jared Leto in this role. (Deadline)

Robert Pattinson Wants To Be Jeff Buckley, Has 6 Years To Live

Here’s a bit of Robert Pattinson news, lest you think he was going to disintegrate completely after Twilight (do the vampires in Twilight disintegrate? I’m not a fan): He’s reportedly interested in playing rock martyr Jeff Buckley in a music biopic.

Jeff Buckley was the son of singer-songwriter Tim Buckley, and accidentally drowned to death at age 30. Apparently this is Pattinson’s “dream project,” but he’s not the only candidate for the part: Ryan Gosling, James Marsden and James Franco are also reported to be interested in playing Buckley. Good God, I certainly wouldn’t want to be up against James Franco for a role I wanted. Isn’t he legally obligated to appear in every film? (via JoBlo)
