If you only see one film about hard-boiled child detectives ridding the streets of scum, you should fly to Japan and make sure it’s this one. I think The Departed was based on this.

Nicolas Cage Wants To Visit Japan As A Ghost

Guys, I know this sounds weird, but I think Nicolas Cage might be a little eccentric. I know he seems normal most of the time, but listen to this: During an online chat with fans, Cage was asked if there were any characters from his career he’d like to revisit, and this was his response:

“I would like to hook up with one of the great Japanese filmmakers, like the master that made ‘Ringu,’ and I would like to take ‘The Wicker Man‘ to Japan, except this time he’s a ghost.”

Oh OK, this time he’s a ghost who lives in Japan and is constantly shouting about bees. Is Nicolas Cage crazy, a genius, or a crazy genius? I guess we’ll find out as soon as he collaborates with James Franco. (The Playlist)

‘Hereafter’ Pulled From Japanese Movie Theaters

Warner Brothers has decided to pull its film Hereafter from about 180 Japanese movie theaters in the wake of this past week’s disasters. The film, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Matt Damon, opens with a terrifyingly realistic Tsunami destroying a Japanese resort. The film, out of DVD tomorrow in the states, opened last month in Japan, and it seems only fair to end its Japanese release in light of the tragedy that has befallen its people. (Deadline)

PEE-WEE HERMAN STAGES HIS COMEBACK

1980′s nostalgia continues to boom at Paul Reubens has announced that he’ll be dusting off the red bow-tie. The LA Times reports that Pee-wee Herman will perform onstage in Hollywood this November for a limited engagement at the Music Box @ Fonda. Perhaps if this run is successful it will lead to the big screen productions Reubens has been trying to get off the ground for the last nine years. The actor stated, "I’ve put part of him away for a long time but part of him has always been here with me. I think it will be like riding a bike — which is not a bad analogy for Pee-wee, by the way." Although his humor is off the beaten track, I’m glad that Reubens decided to pound the pavement and put this show together. His laziness was beginning to rub me the wrong way. On an unrelated note, I wonder if he listens to The Strokes?
