The brewing conflict explodes and the couple must fight for their lives with James Marsden’s character finding the guts to stand up for himself and his family. That’s why you do not mess with a writer, and by extension a blogger. We’re not afraid to get creative with power tools.

The Crow

You simply cannot run around killing terrible musicians and their fiancées. Not only is it rude, but it’s also dangerous. You never know when your victim is going to return from the grave with super powers and systematically kill you and your cohorts. Did you learn nothing from watching RoboCop?

Revenge of the Nerds

You can only be pushed so far, even if you’re a nerd. When terrorized by the big men on campus, a group of nerdy students band together to turn the tables on the jocks. In this scenario, an upper-decker simply will not suffice. What they need to do is beat these jerks at their own game. Which means, they best them at the Annual Greek Games, steal their homes, and then their girlfriends.

This remake of Straw Dogs follows the same basic formula as the original, with James Marsden and Kate Bosworth playing the happy couple and Alexander Skarsgard playing the head baddie. Marsden and Bosworth get tormented by Skarsgard until the mild-mannered Marsden stands his ground, much like Dustin Hoffman did in the original.

While the big star of this film is certainly the story, any questions as to whether direction and performances can live up to the original should be answered here. It’s not the original, but it looks like a damn entertaining film. People should harass James Marsden much more frequently if this is the result.

Danes stars alongside James Marsden (X-Men) in As Cool As I Am, an indie movie about a girl named Lucy Diamond whose parents married when they were teens and are in their own little world. Man, Lucy must feel neglected, like… a diamond in the rough. Whoa. Names can have significance.

Based on a novel by Peter Fromm, Max Mayer wrote and will direct As Cool As I Am in New Mexico next month. I hope they’re shooting plenty of indoor scenes with working air conditioning. If not, by week two, I bet Mayer will rewrite that abandoned amusement park scene to take place in a chilly, furnished basement. (TheWrap)

Palermo Pictures is looking to put Dead Circus into production soon. It’s a let’s-muck-around-with-actual-historical events drama based on the real life death of 60s singer Bobby Fuller. Do you vaguely remember hearing this song about fighting the law and the law winning? He did that. The cast is pretty solid so far: Michael C. Hall “Dexter“), James Marsden (X-Men), Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) and Melissa Leo (aka The Oscar F-Bomber).

The story is about a screenwriter — trust me, it does get better — who’s investigating the supposed suicide of newly minted pop star Fuller in 1966. The problem? Most people don’t commit suicide by badly bruising themselves and pouring gasoline down their own throats. Then we veer off into the Make Believe Zone, when the writer discovers that Fuller’s “suicide” ties in with the Manson family and snuff film buried in Death Valley. Guys, something tells me this was not actually a suicide at all.

Dead Circus will be directed by its co-writer Adam Davenport, with novel writer John Kaye sharing writing credit. (Deadline)

“The plot involves five men who rent a loft apartment together where they can bring their mistresses, only to discover a woman’s body there, raising the possibility that any one of them could be the killer.”

So it appears that Loft falls into the subgenre of “bros in trouble” movies. Wilson especially is great for this type of movie, as evidenced by his performance in the “bros in trouble” (more accurately “bro in trouble”) movie Hard Candy.

The director of the original Loft, Erik Van Looy will be directing the English-language version. So try and track down a copy of the original before this comes out so you can feel cooler than your friends. (via The Playlist)

In the film, Brand plays the I’d-rather-be-drumming Easter Bunny (who is British for some reason), as he embarks on his yearly mission only to be run over by James Marsden. The end.

Oops. No. I guess there’s more movie after that. And David Hasselhoff. If there are two things that Tim Hill can’t resist, they are poop-eating and David Hasselhoff. Which do you prefer? (Apple)

But anyway, here we have our first look at Hop in the form of a teaser trailer. From the creators of Despicable Me, it’s pretty much a rabbit playing Blur’s “Song #2″ on the drums, though he seems to be having difficulties maintaining the beat or riding the hi-hat properly. That’s why I only recruited raccoons to join my band. Let’s show ‘em, Wookie and the Bandits! (Moviefone)

Death at a Funeral is an uneven, occasionally funny remake of the 2007 sleeper British comedy.
 
As family and friends gather for a funeral in an upper class community of Los Angles, eldest son Aaron (Chris Rock, leading an All-Star cast) has to keep everything under control for one afternoon, as he is faced with drugged out family members, bodies popping out of caskets and a blackmailing little man (Peter Dinkaledge, reprising his role from the UK original).
 
The All-Star mourners include a mix of current favorite actors from Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, and James Marsden, as well as comedians Martin Lawrence, Regina King, Tracy Morgan and old screen favorites like Loretta Devine, Keith David and Danny Glover. (Somewhere in this mad-batch of characters is Luke Wilson looking fatter and awkward as ever.)
 
Many of these acting styles don’t particular blend well, but work on their own time. What keeps it all from total disaster is director Neil LaBute.
 
LaBute treats this Americanized version more like a mad capped play from the 1940s (Harvey or You Can’t Take it with You, come to mind). The first 20 minutes of the movie has some snappy dialogue and hilarious stage tableaux, one of which contains 4 of his male leads starring over a body of a 5th actor.
 
Yet by the end LaBute’s direction feels tired and he lets go of a lot moments that could have been true comedically classic scenes, like the fight between Rock and Lawrence as battlin brothers could have packed a lot more punch than a bunch of school yard disses and soft blows.
 
A lot of this movies success really depends on your personal preferences; if you like Rock, Lawrence, and Morgan then this film is a great canvass for their own individual shticks to be let loose, but if you don’t then this is not a movie for you.
 
Death at a Funeral is something that is classical in the sense of mad capped comedies, but if you’ve seen the original then most of the big laugh-out surprises will be turning in their graves.
 
Grade: C

Before you start salivating, this movie isn’t about a tall stack smothered in maple syrup with a side of hash browns and sausage. Kaley Cuoco, Sheldon’s dreamy tall stack on The Big Bang Theory, has joined the Easter Bunny comedy (is that a thing?) I, Hop. Russell Brand and James Marsden are already set to star in the film that I’m sure will do for Easter what Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights did for Hanukkah.

Cuoco will play Marsden’s character’s sister, "who allows Marsden to live with her when he gets kicked out by his parents because he injures a big f*cking bunny rabbit and brings it home to live with him." Talk about a bad house guest! I just hope there’s a gag with him in a mailbox. That joke gets me every time.

Looks like Russell Brand has a new excuse to go flirt with the crones on The View. He’ll be loaning his British accent to the upcoming live-action/CGI hybrid flipper-baby I Hop, from director Tim Hill of Garfield and Chipmunks infamy. In the film, Brand voices the Easter Bunny who is accidentally injured by James Marsden‘s Fred, an out-of-work slacker. Fred must then take in the Bunny until he recovers. At first it’s rough going but in the end they both learn some important life lessons. Awwwww. I smell a sitcom! Or something far, far worse!!! Everyone check your shoes. (THR)

The 120-minute Warner Brothers presentation at Comic-Con 2009 made for one of the hottest talking points at the event, not for the Where the Wild Things Are footage or the A Nightmare on Elm Street trailer that finally showed up online the other day… but for Cameron Diaz’s potentially massive spoiler slip-up during the presentation for Richard Kelly‘s third film,The Box, starring Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella. 

We won’t remind anyone of the specifics, but suffice it to say that the slip could turn out to have been fairly egregious. The producers have kept pretty mum since, but some new production stills from the film have arrived online, and we have a handful of them for you after the jump. We think you’ll agree that the film’s 1970s setting, paired with the compositions and unsettling subject matter have turned Richard Matheson’s short story, "Button, Button," into some meticulous, cool Kubrickian nightmare.
