Bryan Singer‘s Jack the Giant Killer is back with a new trailer and a new title. In news that will likely piss off the rip-off artists at The Asylum, the fairytale action film is now titled Jack the Giant Slayer. They’ve printed up new posters and everything.

This time we get more action and more story. For instance, giants can talk and there’s a ton of them. I trust Singer with this material. If it were a Michael Bay movie, you know one of those giants would be freestyle rapping while it’s second head beat boxes. So hold all complaints. Could always be worse.

That ‘Goosebumps’ Movie Is Still Happening, Has A Screenwriter

Remember Gooosebumps? Of course you do – Columbia Pictures is betting that you do as well, and also that you’ll plunk down 58 bucks (or whatever tickets will cost by the time this comes out) to see a movie made out of those popular children‘s horror books by R.L. Stine. And the news around town is that they’re close to closing a deal on a screenwriter: Darren Lemke, who is the guy who wrote that Jack the Giant Killer movie that’s coming out later this year.

The studio has been trying to get a Goosebumps movie going for several years, but they are apparently starting from square one with Lemke. Goosebumps, of course, was known for having “stinger” endings in which the presumed-eliminated danger was actually still present. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go back down into the basement for some tools… (The Hollywood Reporter)

Oh, happy day! Here’s a first look at Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer. In this trailer, we’re introduced to the basic plot of the film — a dumbass kid gets some beans, they turn into a beanstalk that reaches a sky kingdom, a princess is kidnapped, and giants runs around f***ing stuff up. I feel like this trailer is holding back intentionally as not to reveal too many of the surprises and insane special effects that Singer has in store. If anything, this makes me further lament his exit from the X-Men: The Last Stand directors chair. Just imagine what he could have done with the Sentinels.

You owe us a giant robot movie, Bryan Singer. But I’ll take this in the meantime.

Eddie Marsan has been killing it as a Hey, It’s That Guy for years now. After watching his recent complex performance in The Disappearance Of Alice Creed, I’m not surprised that he’s appearing in bigger roles.

His latest is a role in Bryan Singer‘s Jack The Giant Killer as a member of the King’s Guard. Coming Soon has set photos of Marsan with Ewan McGregor, who is playing the captain of the King’s Guard. Marsan is obviously the one on the right wearing the silly wig. Might he be trying to position himself along the giants of silly wigdom, Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson? It wouldn’t be a bad career move and at the very least, his head would always be warm.

Warner Bros and New Line decided on release dates for their two upcoming tentpole films. So, no, they’re not just gonna sit on an executive’s shelf as multi-million dollar dust catchers. They’re coming to theaters.

Let’s start with Rock of Ages. The cliche karaoke soundtrack turned Broadway musical turned feature film directed by Adam Shankman hits theaters June 1, 2012. Phew. For a moment there, I stopped believin’. Rock of Ages stars Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Julianne “I’m From ‘Dancing With The Stars’ ” Hough and Alec Baldwin.

Meanwhile, Jack The Giant Killer, the Bryan Singer helmed fairy tale adaptation, shimmies down the beanstalk on June 15, 2012. It’s just got to steal a bunch of giant treasure first. Jack The Giant Killer stars Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Ian McShane. McAwesome cast. (TheWrap)

‘Jack The Giant Killer’ Demands You Kneel Before Ian McShane

Actor Ian McShane will play Blackbeard the Skull-Loving Pirate in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He’ll then jump across that thin blue line of law-abidingness and play a king in director Bryan Singer‘s ginormous fairy tale adaptation Jack The Giant Killer for New Line.

McShane plays a disapproving dad king, which I imagine will be exactly like his role in Hot Rod, only kinglier. As King Brahmwell, he will hate-on farm boy Jack (Nicholas Hoult), who’s trying to get into the royal panties of his princess daughter (Eleanor Tomlinson). Hopefully, McShane’s scepter doubles as a shotgun.

The kickass cast also includes Ewan McGregor, John Kassir, Bill Nighy and Stanley Tucci as the villainous royal advisor. (Hollywood Reporter)

Some Kid Named Eleanor Tomlinson To Star In ‘Jack The Giant Killer’

Congratulations to Eleanor Tomlinson. I’m not sure who she is, apart from the fact that she had small parts in Alice In Wonderland and The Illusionist. Now she’ll become a name you hear in households, as she’s been chosen to star in director Bryan Singer‘s big-budget Jack The Giant Killer, based on the fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk.” Way to climb the Hollywood fame beanstalk, Eleanor.

Tomlinson beat out a number of hopefuls, including Lily Collins (The Blind Side), Adelaide Kane (Power Rangers RPM – more like FTW) and Juno Temple (Greenberg). Having sent those other ladies home with not so much as a sack of beans, Tomlinson gets to star alongside Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor and Nicolas Hoult (X-Men: First Class). She’ll play Isabella the Princess, so curtsy next time you see her.

This giant of a movie is looking to drop down into theaters sometime in 2012. (The Playlist)

All Grown Up Nicholas Hoult To Star In ‘Jack The Giant Killer’

Nicholas Hoult, the adorable child star of About A Boy, tragically not afflicted with a disorder that keeps him looking like a child his entire life, is now a full-fledged adult male actor. He’s in the upcoming X-Men: First Class as the Beast, fitting because in many ways puberty is the transition from lovable scamp to horrifying beast, and now he’s set to star in Jack the Giant Killer after a lengthy testing process, fitting because he is a giant.

In case you’re unaware, the movie is “a scary revisionist take on the Jack and the Beanstalk mythology” in which “Hoult will play a farmer who leads an expedition into the giants’ kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess.” If I were him, I’d be concerned at the princess recoiling in horror at the sight of my grotesque, now fully-matured features. Stanley Tucci To Cause Bald, Smarmy Woes For ‘Jack The Giant Killer’

It’s bad enough that the humans in Jack the Giant Killer have to deal with hostile giants. Now it appears they’ll have Stanley Tucci on their hands as well. In the Bryan Singer-directed film, a princess is kidnapped, forcing a farmer to lead a rescue mission into a kingdom of hostile giants. The press release doesn’t say if the film is based on a true story, so we’ll just be left wondering, I guess.

While a group sneaks into a kingdom of super-scary giants, it turns out that Tucci’s character, an adviser to the human king, has designs on sabotaging the king and taking over the throne himself. Zounds!

The real Stanley Tucci would never do anything like that. Probably just because he’s too damn busy. With roles in both Margin Call and Captain America coming up, Tucci could hardly find the time to advise a king, let alone usurp a throne.

Tucci joins a cast featuring Bill Nighy and John Kassir who will play two heads of the leader of the giants, Fallon. Ok. Now I’m almost positive this isn’t based on a true story. The protagonist, the aforementioned farmer, hasn’t yet been cast, but sources say that Nicholas Hoult, the boy from About a Boy, is a frontrunner. Maybe he’ll teach Stanley Tucci’s character something about not putting yourself first all the time. Or kill him. Whatever. (THR)

Bryan Singer Tells Light Bulbs To Suck It

The film electrics union isn’t going to like this one. Bryan Singer has revealed that he’ll be shooting Jack the Giant Killer in 3D with Epic RED cameras, which will allow him to play with how the film is lit. Because the film’s story takes place before the invention of electricity, he’ll be able to shoot using primarily natural light. Like the Amish do. Singer says:

“But more importantly Jack the Giant Killer is my first movie set in a time before electricity. The EPIC’s extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light.”

That’s all the updates we have for right now. As far as casting goes, we’re still in the dark. See what I did there? (Bleeding Cool)

Bryan Singer Testing Young Men and Women for ‘Jack The Giant Killer’

Watch out, young Hollywood dudes and dudettes. Bryan Singer is coming for you. The director is currently in the process of casting his next film, Jack The Giant Killer, and he’s got a few sprightly up-and-comers in his sights. The movie “centers around a war between giants and humans, set off by the kidnapping of a princess, and the young farmer who journeys to the giant kingdom on a rescue mission.” Christopher McQuarrie, of The Usual Suspects awesomeness, wrote the script.

Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Nicholas Hoult (the kid from About a Boy who’s all grown up now) are the lead contenders to wear the farmer overalls. As for the princess, Singer is eying some girls you probably haven’t heard much about. Juno Temple, Adelaide Kane and Lily Collins should all commence polishing their tiaras. But don’t block the boys as they’re putting on their overalls. Yeah, one strap at a time gentleman. Slowly now. (ThePlaylist)

Bryan Singer’s ‘Jack The Giant Killer’ Is Greenlit

Production on Bryan Singer‘s Jack The Giant Killer was slowed down earlier this year when Singer realized that giants do not exist. After scouring Samoa and BBW dating sites for talent, he decided it would just be easier to use computers. Also in that time, the script was reworked by Christoper McQuarrie and now is in a good enough place to receive the greenlight.

Kick-Ass‘s Aaron Johnson is favored for the lead role of the hero who travels to the land of giants to save a princess. However, Singer also met with Andrew Garfield to discuss the part. Singer’s always had an interesting eye for casting so, if he can evade the studio notes, we could end up with someone completely unexpected in the role. Let’s just hope it doesn’t drag out like all of the Spider-Man reboot. I’m still half-expecting Betty White and Helen Mirren to battle it out for the role of Aunt May. (Deadline)
