As We Predicted, Adam Sandler Sweeps The 2012 Razzie Award Nominations

The official Razzie nominations are in, and I’ve gotta say, we didn’t do too bad with our own picks. This is Adam Sandler’s big year as he dethrones Eddie Murphy with a record-breaking 11 nominations. He and his work (Jack & Jill, Just Go With It, Bucky Larson: Born To Be a Star) have earned a nod in every category. He really is like The Artist of things that are hollow and terrible.

Other notable nominees sensibly include Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part One, New Year’s Eve, The Hangover Part II (Worst Sequel AND Remake), and Russell Brand for his work in Arthur. Nicolas Cage is also nominated for Worst Actor for showing up and getting a paycheck from Drive Angry 3D, Season of the Witch, and Trespass. However, odds are he’ll go home empty-handed once again this year. He’s just facing too much stiff competition when it comes to sucking hard.

Here is your full list of dishonorable nominees which somehow don’t include January Jones for X-Men: First Class.

We Predict The 2012 Razzie Awards Nominees

This year, the Razzies will announce their dishonorable nominees on Oscars’ eve, February 25th, 2012. Because we hate waiting, we went ahead and put together our list of who we think the nominees will be. Bear in mind, the Razzies take terrible films very seriously and their nominees are determined by more than 725 film professionals, film journalists and film fans from around the U.S. and 15 foreign countries. And I’m just one man. One man who really hated Joe Wright‘s Hanna.

That said, I don’t envy the Razzie committee. There was just so much sh*t in theaters in 2011. And though I hate Hanna with a fiery passion, I just couldn’t fit it into the categories where it really deserved to be publicly gutted. Here’s my stab at who I think will be in contention for the Razzies’ gold when the winners are announced on April Fools Day. We’ll see how close I was come February 25th.

Should the above films be nominated for Worst Picture, it’s going to be a tough race. Though I’d say the frontrunners are all in the Happy Madison camp. I could see Jack & Jill sweeping the entire ceremony, but Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star isn’t to be discounted either. The porn parody received a 0% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well as 0% laughter from audiences.

Though all of the ladies above were exceptionally terrible in these roles, Jack & Jill needs to be made an example of. We can’t just allow movies this bad to keep happening. We need to send a message to all of the Tyler Perrys and Big Mommas and whatever Rob Schneider is cooking up next.

Armond White Thought ‘Jack And Jill’ Was Just Great, Thank You

Not everyone hated Jack and Jill. Renowned critic (and equally renowned contrarian) Armond White of City Arts has published a review praising Adam Sandler’s new film in which he plays his own female twin. White opens up by claiming that Sandler’s films aren’t “dumb fun,” which I guess is technically true since they aren’t fun at all, and goes on to appreciate all the things that we never knew existed in a film whose biggest plot point is the fact that Adam Sandler is sometimes a girl.

Among the things Armond White think Jack and Jill addresses in his review:

Sibling Rivalry (eh, maybe)
A Style of Comedy (Through Embarrassment) That “Goes Back To The Greeks” (Ugh. Fine. Technically. I guess.)
Jack and Jill’s Strength Lying in the Fact That Sandler May Be The “Least Ethnically Abashed Jewish Film Comic outside the Borscht Belt.” (I don’t know where the Borscht Belt is, so I can’t weigh in here. I’m sorry.)

You get the idea. This guy is just operating on a different level of film criticism here (somewhat likely) and/or he’s a crazy asshole who wants people to write articles critiquing his critique (absolutely certain).

Either way, I guess someone liked Jack and Jill. Or claims to have, at least.

You Won’t Believe These 9 Awful Films Made Over $100 Million

Wow. That was close. It appears that Jack and Jill, the Adam Sandler costume vehicle, won’t be making as much money as we all feared it would, having pulled in “only” $26 million over the weekend. Well, when you come that close to disaster, you want to really take stock of your life and evaluate, which is what we did by looking at some of the worst films to crack $100 million at the box office.

Unfortunately, I could easily have made this list the “90 Worst Movies to Gross Over $100 Million” and the message wouldn’t have been diluted at all. There are some truly awful films out there that have made a lot of money. And we have no one to blame but ourselves. Studios aren’t really in the business of making good films, they’re in the business of making money. So until we hold off on paying for films unless they’re good (which will never, ever, ever happen), we are subsidizing more Pirates sequels and Fockers movies.

Shame on us. Shame on our eyes.

Here are some of the most egregious films to cross the $100 million mark. Feel free to put your two cents in the comments, as there are hundreds of horrible films that deserve to be here.

Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps -$123 million

When your film is the impetus for an ongoing gag on 30 Rock about how Tracy Jordan makes mindless films that gross a lot of money, you’ve earned the lead spot on this list. The Klumps was later crucified as the moment Hollywood turned a corner into lazy, broad characters all played by one actor. It also had pervasive fart humor, and marked the general decline of Eddie Murphy from smart comic actor to industry caricature.

Rush Hour 3 – $140 million

It’s remarkable that audiences hadn’t gotten sick of the franchise by this point. Although the third installment made less than the first and second, it was still an unqualified success, which leads me to believe that either a) audiences really like Jackie Chan (not surprising), or b) audiences not only tolerate, but actually enjoy Chris Tucker (mind-blowing). I know the value of a brand is important in Hollywood, but I wouldn’t have thought it outweighed what was clearly a thin presence to begin with.

Wild Hogs – $168 million

They’re old familiar guys! Riding motorcycles! At least Space Cowboys had them go to space. This film is essentially just lame dads riding around on motorcycles, Starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy (!), I’m not sure why audiences wanted to watch these guys posture as tough bikers, nor do I know why Martin Lawrence said, “Hey! I want to be a part of this project!” Maybe he was drunk?

Why Adam Sandler Makes Sh*tty Movies (Infographic)

Despite the fact that it’s rocking a score of only 3% on Rotten Tomatoes, the latest Adam Sandler turd, Jack and Jill, brought in $26 million in its opening weekend. That might not be as impressive as some of his other openings, but considering the awful trailers and the critical beat down the film received, it’s a more than respectable amount. And unless it sees a huge drop off next weekend, Jack and Jill is on pace to gross over $100 million. Pardon me while I slit my wrists.

Right about now, numerous online hacks like myself are working on editorials decrying Sandler for his lazy, brainless films (this coming from people who write “lists” all day). Many of these editorials will try to figure out why Sandler continues to churn out such shitty films. The real question is why in the world should he bust his ass and put out a quality product when it’s sure to be met with lukewarm box-office numbers. On the other hand, he can cram Kevin James and a bunch of poop jokes down our throats, and we’ll throw money at him like there’s no tomorrow. Sandler’s critical successes (all four of them) have brought in less than $200 million. On the other hand, his critical failures have brought in close to $2 billion. Yes, billion with a ‘b’. And of his 12 films that have grossed over $100 million, not one has been above 50% on RottenTomatoes.com. Clearly, he’s just giving the people what they want, and apparently, they want shitty, shitty movies. Take a look at the infographic below and see for yourself.

Almost everyone with a pulse was disgusted by Adam Sandler’s latest attempt at comedy. The trailer was so bad, that it’s already given birth to numerous “reaction videos” featuring the likes of George C. Scott and Nicolas Cage. Truth be told, I’ve laughed more at these videos than I have at the last five Adam Sandler films combined. And something tells me Jack & Jill won’t do much to help that average.

Everything that’s wrong with Eddie Murphy, Kevin James, and lazy Adam Sandler movies is demonstrated in the Jack and Jill trailer. In the film, Adam Sandler is a family man upset that his twin sister is coming in to visit. We find out why when he goes to pick her up! Yowsers, is she ever a handful!

She tells him he’s chubby right to his face! TO HIS FACE! But by the end of the film, it would seem that Adam Sandler has more in common with his sister than he ever realized. ‘Cause that’s how these types of movies end. She embraces the role with all the charisma and warmth that one would expect from Mrs. Tom Cruise.

Beyond that, we get all the hallmarks of a lazy Adam Sandler movie: funny voices, his buddies in silly costumes, pointless and weird cameos (Al Pacino?), and lame 70′s classic rock.

Watch the trailer, then wonder what type of person says, “Intriguing. I’m excited for more.”

If you’ve ever wanted to see Adam Sandler in drag, his next film Jack and Jill will give you plenty. Sandler plays a man and his twin sister. Yep, it’s come to that, and even Al Pacino and Katie Holmes are joining in on the "fun."

This inevitable failure with the critics but success at the box office is being directed by long time Sandler collaborator Dennis Dugan. He directed Sandler in his last P.O.S. Grown Ups that went on to make 264 million at the worldwide box office. So up my nose with rubber hose for bagging on their team. They make money hand over fist. Adam Sandler Nabs Katie Holmes and Al Pacino for ‘Jack and Jill’

Good news for people who like Adam Sandler comedies (you know who you are). Katie Holmes and Al Pacino are in talks to join Sandler’s new film, Jack and Jill.

Considering that their film credits include The Godfather, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Batman Begins, Holmes and Pacino make an impressive pair. But not nearly as impressive as the pair Sandler has lined up to write and direct the film, Steven Koren and Dennis Dugan. Their film credits include such classics as Evan Almighty, Grown Ups, and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. Holy crap!

What the hell happened to Adam Sandler’s movies? Back in 1995, I remember watching Happy Gilmore after school and laughing my ass off. But now, fifteen years later, it seems like all of his projects are geared toward 12-year olds. What changed? I can’t wrap my head around it. (/Film)
