Leonardo DiCaprio and a balding cap star as the FBI director in a story that spans several decades. The 987th film from celebrated director Clint Eastwood, J. Edgar will hit theaters just in time for awards season by opening wide on November 11th. Though it’s likely to face some strong competition from Darren Lynn Bousman‘s 11-11-11.

Jeffrey Donovan will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Josh Lucas, Armie Hammer, Ed Westwick, Ken Howard, Stephen Root, and Dame Judi Dench in the biopic. Does this mean he’ll be too good to sit with Bruce Campbell at the “Burn Notice” lunch table now? Probably not, but I like the mental image of Bruce Campbell eating a meatball hoagie all by himself while the “Burn Notice” guy signs his headshot for crew members. (Collider)

He’s joining a pretty impressive cast, with Leonardo DiCaprio in the titular role of FBI head J. Edgar (Hoover), The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer as J. Edgar‘s “companion” Clyde Tolson, and Judi Dench as J. Edgar’s mother.

All right-thinking film fans should be excited about this, because Stephen Root is one of the most fascinating people to watch in movies today. The promising-looking J. Edgar also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ed Westwick and Ken Howard, but let’s be real here. None of those actors have boobs (that I’m aware of, at least), and none of them have simulated lesbian sex on film (unless Westwick was in a weird student film or something). That’s where Academy Award nominated Naomi Watts comes in. She’ll offer a nuanced, yet emotional take on J. Edgar Hoover’s loyal secretary, and a willingness to put those lovely boobs in front of a camera. Awesome.

Charlize Theron was rumored to be the front runner for the role, but hopefully she’ll be flashing her boobs to aliens in Prometheus, the new almost-Aliens movie by Ridley Scott. (Deadline)

Not content sticking to one historically significant character per year, Lucas is also in the running to be no less than Honest Abe himself in the much-anticipated film adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Lucas seems like an odd pick to play Lincoln, but the entire premise of the movie seems odd, so who knows what will work and what won’t.

Further solidifying the assertion that Lucas has caught “Lincoln Fever,” Lucas’ next role will be opposite Matthew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer, about a lawyer who practices out of the back of his Lincoln automobile. Michelle Pfeiffer, who’ll always be remem-purrrrrrred for her role as Lamia in 2007′s Stardust, was cast in the film Welcome To People. She’ll join Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde and Elizabeth Banks in a movie about a man (Pine) whose father dies. When he returns home, he uncovers a family secret. And the secret is… wait, I don’t know. The film starts shooting next week, so we’ve got a ways to wait.

Meanwhile, I’ve never seen a full episode of “Gossip Girl,” but there’s a British dude on it named Ed Westwick. So, yeah, that guy’s got a major supporting role in a cool sounding bio pic called J. Edgar, about the life of power-grabbing, cross-dressing FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hoover, and Westwick plays the straight-laced FBI agent who ends up writing his biography. DiCaprio gave an awesome performance in Catch Me If You Can, so you don’t need to tap our phones to know we’re intrigued by this project. (Deadline)

Clint Eastwood has confirmed that Dame Judi Dench will star in his upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic, J. Edgar. The director also claims that Leonardo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron are likely to appear in the film.

“The script is a very good script and we were all preparing it and he [DiCaprio] liked the script. He actually volunteered for it… We think she [Theron] will be in the film. And Judi Dench is definitely in the film and there we are.”

I guess it should come as no surprise that Dench is on board. After all, who else could pull off such a convincing Hoover? Yeah, I know that was a cheap shot, but the Roy Cohn joke I had planned would have flown straight over your heads, so let’s just put it behind us and call it a day. (Latino Review)
