Tobey Maguire? Isn’t he that old man who was Spider-Man, like, a million years ago? Yes, the ancient old Spider-Man is still webbing around. Maguire will star in director Ang Lee‘s adaptation of Yann Martel’s bestseller Life of Pi. I’m sure Maguire and Lee will have a lot to talk about, like working together on The Ice Storm, and how Marvel won’t return either of their phone calls.

Maguire won’t play the lead. That honor goes to newbie Suraj Sharma, whose character (Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel) shares a lifeboat with a killer Bengal tiger. Tigers: great to taunt behind thick plexiglass in zoos, bad lifeboat companions. Maguire will play the writer who interviews the old Pi, played by Irrfan Khan “Slumdog Millionaire“).

Fans are salivating at the prospect of The Amazing Spider-Man, which promises the same cast of characters we know from the first 3 Spider-Man movies, but with all-new actors saying the words. But it’s not just fans who are excited about The Amazing Spider-Man – it’s the cast members as well. Just check out what Irrfan Khan has to say about his part:

“The role got me some good reviews there and I think the industry there is aware of my work. Marc Webber [sic] had seen me and wanted to work with me and he approached me for this role. I play one of the villains in the movie. It is a pivotal role.”

Oh, well. The actor playing the part says it’s a “pivotal role.” I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out he’s actually playing Spider-Man. (via ComingSoon.net)
