In Time features a future society where the aging gene is switched off at 25 years. Once you hit that age, you have one remaining year to live. Time has essentially become the currency and should you be able to afford it, you can purchase more time. But if time is the currency, how can you use time to buy time and why do I have a headache suddenly. Ouch.

I dunno. Sounds pretty weird. A similar concept was famously done with Logan’s Run, but aging and immortality have been popular themes in science-fiction and fantasy. These seven films all approach age and immortality in their own unique way.

Logan’s Run

In Logan’s Run, the future is devoid of sucky old people taking forever to climb the stairs. This is thanks to an advanced computer that controls the population by decreeing all humans be vaporized before they turn thirty. To ensure no oldsters crash the party, everyone is born with a Lifeclock crystal in the palm of their hand. When it changes color, it’s disintegration time.

Jack

Diagnosed with an extreme case of Werner’s syndrome, Jack Powell ages four times at faster than average children. Causing him to be born after a ten week pregnancy and having to shave by the time he enters 1st Grade. If that weren’t bad enough, he’s closed off to the outside world save for his parents and Bill Cosby. That would mess any kid up.

In Time finds Olivia Wilde playing Justin Timberlake‘s mother. Fortunately, no old-person makeup magic was involved, as the film is about a society in which people stop aging at 25. So it’ll be the same Olivia Wilde you know and love, which is just one reason to go see the movie. You can figure out the others by yourself.

Now she’s starring in In Time, a high-paced sci-fi thriller featuring the likes of Justin Timberlake, Olivia Wilde, and that usually repellant but sometimes likeable guy from”Mad Men.” After that, we’ll see her alongside Michael Cera and Shannyn Sossamon in an as of yet untitled Mark Webber project, followed by the thriller Gone, both in 2012.

Everyone seems to be looking forward to In Time and here’s another trailer to whet your appetite. In the future, science has stopped the gene for aging. However, you don’t live past twenty-five years old unless you’re able to earn more time as it has become the chief currency. Which means that the wealthy can live forever and the poor work until they die. Fuck that shit. I’m moving to Future Canada.

In Time stars Justin Timberlake as a man on the run after he inherits a century. Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser, and Alex Pettyfer are also on hand to eternally attractive.

'In Time' Trailer Imagines A World Where Justin Timberlake Fights For The Oppressed

In the world of In Time, what separates the rich from the poor isn’t money, but rather time. The wealthiest people will not only live a very long time, but live as young people for a very long time. So the Fortune 500 would look like a True Blood cast picture or something.

In this trailer, we find that Justin Timberlake’s Will Salas is accused of murder, he must live as a poor person, hustling for every minute to make it through the day. So this film should fall in line with other like minded films like Crank, and even Die Hard with a Vengeance (when they’re on that little scavenger hunt), which shouldn’t distinguish it from a whole grip of other “clock is running out” films, but the idea that an entire economy is based on the allocation of time rather than dollars could be pretty interesting if it’s developed between scenes of people jumping off balconies and running down alleys.

Joining JT on this adventure are Olivia Wilde, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, Alexy Petyfer, and Johnny Galecki. The film hits October 28, so start saving those minutes now.

Justin Timberlake, not content to be the most-liked pop star/actor working today, is apparently branching out into the world of action stardom. The vehicle for this endeavor is called In Time – directed by respected science-fictioneer Andrew Niccol, and it as hooky scifi premises go, it’s pretty golden. It’s the future, when science has cured aging, and everyone stops growing older at 25. Instead of gradually getting older and dying, the populace is given one more year to live. But the people can replenish their time remaining on Earth, since in this future society, time is used as currency, like money today. Pretty cool, right?

The trailer poses a lot of thought-provoking questions like “is it fair for some people to have lots of money while other people starve in the streets,” along with some ass-kicking and gunplay. Oh, and Pete Campbell from Mad Men is in it. Sold!

Comic-Con 2011: Justin Timberlake Does His Rambo Impression

I like it when celebrities do impressions of other celebrities. Justin Timberlake does it a lot when he’s on SNL, but this is a good one. While promoting his action hero debut at Comic-Con, Timberlake showed some street cred. He said his favorite action movie growing up was First Blood, and proceeded to quote not only Rambo, but Col. Trautman too.

Timberlake stars in In Time as a man on the run in a future where life spans are bought and sold, and he’s run out. If anyone wonders if Timberlake can pull of running in slow motion, he demonstrated some badass attitude for the press at San Diego Comic-Con. His co-star, Amanda Seyfried, liked it too.
