The Sky Is Blue And ‘Homeland’ Got Renewed

Today in news that has probably been assumed since the Emmys a few weeks ago, Homeland has gotten picked up for a third season. The order is for the now-industry-standard 12 episodes, which is a number that comfort us with its familiarity. Conversely, an 11-episode pickup would have angered and confused us to such a degree that we couldn’t reasonably be held accountable for our actions. Ditto for 13 episodes.

The news comes after Sunday’s most-watched-ever episode, which garnered 1.75 million viewers, which fell just short of Dexter‘s 1.9 million that night.

The news of this renewal, while not surprising, comes as great news for fans of great television, and also Claire Danes‘ agent, who probably has been long overdue for a payday.

We’ve Got The Second Season Premiere Of ‘Homeland’ For You To Watch

With last season’s finale leaving us with electro-shock therapy and treason of the highest order, last night’s Homeland season two premiere was widely anticipated…by those who had Showtime. Those who didn’t had to wallow in their own envy and self-pity.

Until now.

Taking cues from high school drug dealers the world over, Showtime has magnanimously offered “the first one’s on us,” posting last night’s episode on YouTube so that any yahoo with an Internet connection can watch the show and see what the fuss is about.

Their gesture also allows self-serving websites like Screen Junkies to embed the video in our site, tricking the most gullible readers into thinking that we’re somehow the reason they get to see Homeland for free.

It works out pretty well for everyone.

Last Night’s Emmys Pleased Us And Infuriated Us

Last night’s Emmys managed to give almost everything away to Homeland, as the Showtime national security drama scored wins for Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series, Best Actress in a Drama series, and Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series. You can find our breakdown of all the major categories, sans pithy commentary, right here.

While the relatively under-the-radar show certainly deserves accolades, it was a bit of a surprise to see the freshman series bowl over the likes of it take out Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and Game of Thrones in most of the major categories. I say “most,” because Aaron Paul was able to score the Best Supporting trophy.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that the Emmy board thinks that Jon Cryer is the best comedic TV actor in the world, which totally undoes all the progress we as a civilization have made since the Magna Carta.

They also thought that all four-grown up men in Modern Family were better supporting actors than Nick Offerman, who didn’t even get nominated.

Aside from those two abortions, the list is pretty unobjectionable from where we sit. But still…Jon Cryer?

A Bunch Of Actors And Shows Won Emmys

Everyone was expecting Mad Men to walk away with the gold for the fifth time after the show returned to an exceptionally strong season. However, now everyone looks incredibly dumb for expecting that. Freshman series Homeland snuck up behind the AMC drama in the cafeteria and pantsed it for all to see. Then star Damien Lewis snickered while Claire Danes made a tiny gesture with his fingers and Mandy Patinkin stroked his beard menacingly.

Also of note, Tom Berenger took home a statue for his work in Hatfield & McCoys, while Tom Bergeron won for his hosting duties on Dancing With The Stars. Truly a great night for performers with easily-confused names.

Claire Danes Wars On Terror In ‘Homeland’ Teaser

Terror has a new enemy and her name is Claire Danes. In the teaser for Showtime‘s “Homeland,” Danes stars as a CIA somebody keeping tabs on the Damian Lewis‘ recently-released prisoner of war. America regards him as a hero after his crappy stay with the Taliban, but Danes is afraid he could be the ultimate sleeper agent. After all, nobody would ever expect a redhead could be an extremist. Will she be able to uncover his so-called terrorist life?

The teaser has everything you’d expect: torture, surveillance, gnarly beards, politicians, and of course, secret meet-ups on park benches. The CIA should really get around to putting microphones in park benches.

‘Life’s’ Damian Lewis To Play Another Ex-Con On Showtime

What a lazy dog.

Between “Band On Brothers” and “Life,” Damian Lewis has built a pretty good following. Now he’s set to star in the new Showtime series “Homeland.” He’ll portray a marine who returns home after being held captive in Baghdad for close to ten years. But, a CIA agent played by the totally-believable-as-a-CIA-agent Claire Danes suspects he is planning an attack against the United States.

Definitely sounds promising. With Dexter,” “Californication,” Weeds,” “United States Of Tara,” and “Nurse Jackie,” Showtime always builds really intriguing casts and this one is no exception. Well, I mean the leads. Showtime always casts intriguing actors in lead roles. Ignore the supporting characters. Especially the ones who play the daughters. (Deadline)
