Using her time that could otherwise be spent acting or generally being a more productive member of society, Lindsay Lohan is suing the guys behind Grand Theft Auto for allegedly thinly veiling her likeness for the vapid, broke starlet Lacey Jonas in the most recent iteration of the game.

Any similarities, suggested or overt, would probably be unenforceable due to satire exemptions, but nonetheless, it’s odd, even by Lohan standards, that this is how she wants to go. Claiming that a fictional moron in a video game that people is clearly her. I mean, it probably is, but she could probably get the same public reaction by putting a metal pot on her head, and run down the street banging it with a wooden spoon yelling, “I’M LINDSAY LOHAN, AND I’M DUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.”

Which she’s been doing metaphorically for about seven years now.

Then the world would be a better, much more dangerous place. But mostly better. Here’ s a pretty inspired look at the world as we would know it. You might want to use the buddy system before going out ever:

The LA Times announced yesterday that Warner Bros is moving forward with a reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise. This decision was made after a web series of gritty, “more realistic” shorts, titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy, helpe drive sales of the latest  video game in the series to over 3 million copies. The reboot film will be directed by Legacy helmer Kevin Tancharoen.

I can understand the decision to cash in on the revived franchise but it makes me want more. Mortal Kombat had its chance. What about all of the other games that we’ve always wanted to see on the big screen? Here are just a few of the films that could lure us away from our couch and GameStationCubeBoxes.

The Legend Of Zelda

The sprawling adventure of The Legend of Zelda has been ripe for a movie adaptation for a long, long time. It has swords, explosions, monsters, intrigue, and an epic quest. The folks at Nintendo should have rushed this into production years ago. But it has to be the original Zelda — none of this Twilight Princess transforming into a wolf and helping stupid villagers with their gay farming problems crap.

Manhunt

Part The Running Man. Part The Warriors. And part slasher film. Manhunt is excessively violent and therefore would make an excessively awesome film. The stealth game focuses on a recently executed death row inmate who awakes to find he was spared. However, he’s now the center of a snuff film. He’s released into a dilapidated city while bloodthirsty gang members hunt him. Weaponless, he must defend himself in the most brutal fashion with whatever items he can find. Plastic bags, broken glass, baseball bats, hatchets, cleavers, crowbars, and eventually a chainsaw (after squaring off against a Leatherface-like enemy) all become his inventory as he eviscerates the criminal underground.

In the heirarchy of film, most machinima (turning video game footage into a movie) ranks below fan-films about Batman, but slightly above music videos teenagers make by splicing together different scenes from various animes. However, The Trashmaster is a cut-above its peers. French director Mathieu Weschler spent two years (two years of his life!) assembling game footage from Grand Theft Auto IV to make this feature length movie about a city trash collector who cleans up crime on the streets. It’s not just a bunch of dudes dubbing voices for Mario and Luigi — this is a well-edited, shockingly watchable movie.

The first thing you’ll probably notice when you start watching is the ridiculous voice over, which is what I imagine Google Translate would sound like if the website came to life and started translating French into English for me. It also takes annoying commercial breaks. That being said, the editing is crisp, the camera angles are intriguing and there’s an actual story. So who says you can’t make a decent movie based on a video game. (/Film)
