Joe 2: Retaliation continues to get wacky with its casting and it looks like they’ve snagged a pretty big get. Well, bigger than Marlon Wayans anyway. Bruce Willis is in talks to join the sequel as the Joe that started it all. Willis will play General Joe Colton, the man who forms the ultimat fighting force which is later known as G.I. Joe. Because it’s common for organizations to be named after their founders?

Jon M. Chu is directing from a script by it doesn’t matter as long as the action is cool, that will star Channing Tatum, The Rock, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and RZA. There’s no word yet how this sequel will eschew the original cast to make room for the new recruits but let’s hope to hear one soon. Don’t G.I. Joe fans deserve continuity?
Shooting is slated to begin in January which means there’s no way the film will be ready in time for the June 29th, 2012 release date that Paramount had scheduled for it. You just can’t rush a movie like this. But you CAN rush GI Joe 2: Retaliation, which will take Trek’s June spot. It’s now believed that Star Trek 2 will hit theaters in late 2012 or the summer of 2013. That’s ample time to work on your Klingon costume for opening night.

6 photosElsa Pataky

After a hugely successful turn in Fast Five, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in talks to join another sequel. Though he could be using his talents to play a biologist on the verge of a groundbreaking discovery or concert pianist, he’s chosen to take the role of Muscle-y Guy in G.I. Joe 2.

Reports are that he’ll play Roadblock — the Army chef turned infantryman who carries around an M2 Browning machine gun. The story is developing but it’s also looking likely that Channing Tatum will return for the Jon Chu-directed sequel. With JJ Abrams needing extra time to make Star Trek 2 enjoyable, Paramount needs to release G.I. Joe 2 next summer so expect more soon. But, seriously, time’s ticking. You really don’t want to hurry such rich characters and plot-lines that center around secret bases hidden inside volcanoes.
The real Cobra Commander wouldn't run away from a fight with the Joes, unless he was about to lose.

The real Cobra Commander wouldn’t walk away from a fight with the Joes, unless he was about to lose. However, we’re not talking about the awesomely-faceless cartoon character. In the awful GI Joe movie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt starred as the scratchy-voiced villain. Since then, Levitt has become a hot commodity with Inception and a much discussed by geeks role in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises. Meanwhile, GI Joe 2 got a director in Justin Bieber: Never Say Never director Jon M. Chu. So, I think we can see where this is headed: Levitt signed on for GI Joe 2, four additional sequels and a TV show… but you know… not that.

Levitt confirmed in a recent interview he won’t be screaming “retreeeeeat” anytime soon, and won’t be back for GI Joe 2 to reprise his key role. Many of the characters in the first one aren’t coming back: only Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes and Duke. However, the movie has reportedly been subtitled Cobra Strikes. Does this mean another actor will step in for Levitt? If only we knew, because knowing is 45-55% of the battle. (Collider)

'GI Joe 2' and 'Hugo Cabret' get release dates from Paramount. The first one they can keep for themselves, thank you.

Mark your calendars, folks. On August 10, 2012, your childhood gets its ass kicked again by the live action Joes. Yes, Paramount is letting GI Joe 2 invade theaters in mid-August, a dumping ground for many of the summer’s most quality-challenged big budget movies. With Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 2: The Streets) directing, it’s sure to a high-flying, high-kicking waste of your $38.

Paramount also officially locked-in the release date of Martin Scorsese‘s upcoming 3D blockbuster Hugo Cabret as November 23, 2011. Scorsese in 3D sounds intriguing, as does the cast, which includes Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Jude Law and Christopher Lee. Hopefully, Cobra doesn’t do anything to muck up Hugo Cabret‘s Thanksgiving release. (Hollywood Reporter)

Please keep Lee Byung-hun, Ray Park, and Channing Tatum in your thoughts and prayers. Even the director of the first couldn’t handle the pressure.

This presumably only includes cast members who played good guys in the first movie, which as you might remember gave a lot of focus to the villains of the story, the titular one being played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who probably won’t be returning for the sequel. Gordon-Levitt was last seen running through Hollywood with a visibly tear-streaked face, shouting “no! No! I wasn’t in GI Joe! You’re confusing me with Heath Ledger!” Sad. Chu is turning in box office numbers to the tune of +$54 million so far with Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. So, under the influence of intense Bieber Fever, Paramount decided to reward Chu by choosing him to helm GI Joe 2. Chu also directed Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D, meaning a Cobra/Joe dance-off scene is now inevitable.

The deal is still being put into place, but Chu is definitely the soldier Paramount’s drafted for duty. Along with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Chu will begin the production process this Fall.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle, you guys. (Deadline)

If you didn't see 'GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra', not to worry - Hasbro still wants your money.

If you didn’t see GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra, not to worry – Hasbro still wants your money.

From what I gathered by watching the commercials, the first GI Joe was intricately plotted and very sophisticated, like that scene where the thing blows up. If you didn’t watch the first one, but decided to catch the currently-in-development GI Joe 2, how would you know that things blew up? According to a recent interview, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner “made sure” that the script for GI Joe 2 wouldn’t require any knowledge from the first one. He’s proud of the script, penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland).

“We have a really good script and we’re right now talking to a number of directors.”

“In many ways, it’ll be great for the people who saw the first one, but you don’t need to have studied every element of the first one to enjoy the second. We’ve made sure that that’s the case.”

I hope you won’t need to have seen GI Joe 1, but you will need to have memorized the GI Joe animated movie from 1987, and if you haven’t, you are totally boned. Or should I say Roadblock-ed? Nah, I’m going with boned. Yo Joe! (Screenrant)
