Movie fans are hoping the cemetery chapel featured in Night of the Living Dead can get a new lease on life.

The cemetery association was planning to tear down the boarded up building, but Gary Streiner has stepped in to attempt to save it. Streiner, who was an audio technician on George Romero’s zombie classic, is trying to raise $50,000 to repair the building and convert it into a movie museum or a space that can be rented out for private events like zombie-themed weddings. So far he has raised about $7,000. The cemetery association president has told the press that the building will be destroyed if the funds are not raised.

However, thanks to a loophole in Pennsylvania State Law, Streiner is legally allowed to challenge the association to a series of Greek Games in a last bid attempt to save the property. If he can emerge victorious in the athletic portion, charity sales and costume events, and finally, the talent show, the chapel will be saved and he’ll take control of the Greek Council.

Go to www.fixthechapel.com if you’re interested in helping the cause. (MSNBC)

How great would it be if the 'Night of the Living Dead' guy directed a 'Walking Dead' episode? Eh. Not that great, really.

Godfather of the zombie genre George Romero has told science-y blog thing i09 that he doesn’t watch The Walking Dead and has turned down offers to direct an episode.

Why would he be so awful and mean and deny us this one thing? THIS ONE THING!

Romero went on record as saying, “Listen, I love Frank [Darabont], I know he’s done a good job. I love the books, I never watched any of the episodes because… my zombies are sort of my own. I didn’t want to be part of it. ”

What a jerk.

He views his zombies as more of a “natural disaster” than the looming, malignant threat that many storytellers today have adopted. For this reason, he’s content letting the Darabont-less team behind The Walking Dead have at it.

I guess it’s not really that big a loss, because unless Romero could write multi-dimensional characters and non-wooden dialogue for The Walking Dead, he really wouldn’t be able to help them out.

There are a lot of zombie video games out there, but few with Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gellar and a killable George Romero. Check out the trailer.

There are a lot of zombie video games out there. How do you differentiate yourself? You release a kickass, movie-esque viral trailer. Oh, that’s already been done? Well… uh… it’ll work again.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Escalation–Call of the Dead is an add-on that lets you play a zombie-killing game starring Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michael Rooke and Robert Englund. They released a fun, Grindhouse-style trailer above, complete with retro titles, film burn effect and a voice over that sounds right on the zombie money.

George Romero stars as a zombie boss, which I guess is a nice homage to the genre creator, although… I dunno. It’d be like playing a Star Wars game where a main boss is George Lucas. Hilarious, but anti-climactic, cause it takes you out of the game. Still, there’s the catharsis factor.

A bloody family life-long feud on an island off the coast of Delaware between two Irish families, the Muldoons and the O’Flynns, is put into overdrive when the zombie apocalypse hits and the two families take to their own managing of the zombie problem. Muldoon and his clan, looking like a cross between Elmer Fudd and Foghorn Leghorn, want to keep the undead held in captivity untill a cure comes along. On the other hand, O’Flynn and his clan, a cross between Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny, take a shoot-first-ask-questions-later approach to dealing with the undead creatures.

The message this time, or lack of one, amounts to it being about borders and flags, and how we make a whole big deal about them until we forget about the real problems that need to be fought together.

Yet this is totally erroneous to the fact that Romero just wants to make another head bashing zombie movie. Here he succeeds for about 60 percent of the time, but is one or too leg chomps away from a total disaster.

Too many subplots and broad humor at times get in the way of his more grittier, intense moments. Still, he brings plenty of gore and humor, even with a much lower budget, similar to his Diary of the Dead two years ago, which Survival has several spin-off characters from.

Survival is the first, according to Romero, in a planned trilogy of more Dead movies. Someone should let him know that "triology" means "three." Three movies focusing on the same subject material. We’ve already got two trilogies, and then some, George.

The Z-genre, with the exception of Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later, has been decaying on the movie going audience for the past decade, and Survival of the Dead is no exception.

Grade: C+

He's making it very hard not to.Although Romero's sixth zombie film, Survival of the Dead, hasn't even hit theaters yet, the legendary director is already talking about two more installments. In a recent interview, Romero said he would like to shoot the films back to back and that "returning for two more entries would feel like home to him."I'd like to point out that to experience something that "feels like home" you would actually have to leave home first. But at any rate, shooting the films back to back is probably a good idea, considering Romero is 70. If this goes on much longer, the undead films are going to need an undead director...because he'll be dead. Get it? Yeah you do. (First Showing)

What they need to do is face the fact that red-band trailers are awesome and it's growing much harder to monitor their kids due to the Internet's reach. This battle is lost parents. You should just focus on being "cool parents" and pop the corn, kick back, and check out this second red-band trailer for George Romero's Survival of the Dead. It's not that explicit except for all the blood and guts and stuff. Also, a zombie rides a horse. Sidenote: Here we are in the year 2010 and Romero has six Living Dead movies under his belt and he's only now breaching shooting zombies with a flare gun territory. Now that's an artist who knows how to keep things fresh. Win the adoration of your gore-loving children after the jump.

What are the zombies doing in this one, you ask? On an island off the coast of North America, local residents simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their un-dead relatives back to their human state. Amazing! How do they keep breathing new life into this dead concept?! Hey, if you don't like my schtick my mom will reimburse you. Salivate at the sight of the red band trailer after the jump.

What are the zombies doing in this one, you ask? On an island off the coast of North America, local residents simultaneously fight a zombie epidemic while hoping for a cure to return their un-dead relatives back to their human state. Amazing! How do they keep breathing new life into this dead concept?! Hey, if you don’t like my schtick my mom will reimburse you.

Salivate at the sight of the red band trailer after the jump.

I don't know about you, but I think that off-screen guy looks crazy. The new trailer for The Crazies, starring Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell, has mixed into the web like tainted drinking water, and I'm digging the funny taste. We showed you the first trailer a couple months back of the Breck Eisner remake of the cult George Romero film. The new one has plenty shots of Olyphant offering stupified looks and zombie people jumping at the camera while the music goes DUM! As you may or may not choose to remember, Breck Eisner directed the film Sahara starring Matthew "Shirts Iritate My Skin" McConaughey, so while The Crazies may not live up to those terrifying results, it looks scary nonetheless. The film is about the inhabitants of a small Iowa town suddenly plagued by insanity and then death after a mysterious toxin contaminates their water supply. Overall, it sounds like an amalgamation of Erin Brockovich and Christmas dinner at my mom's house. The Crazies infests theaters February 26th. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Thanks to the folks at Bloody Disgusting, we get a sneak peak at George Romero's latest attempt to breathe more life into the zombie horror genre (pun blatantly intended). There's everything you'd expect in the trailer below: zombies, humans, guns, brains, stilted dialogue. We don't watch these films for the breakthrough performances though, we watch them because we feel compelled to on the off chance that something blows our brains out of our skull (oh man the puns are so goooood)! Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Is Survival of the Dead going to be better than Land of the Dead?
