Was he drunk? He must have been drunk.

In news that’s really surprising because it’s wrong, Francis Ford Coppola was met by TMZ outside a Hollywood nightclub and, when asked about ‘The Godfather Part II, responded by saying, “There should only been one.”

Really, Frank? I know I hate sequels more than most, but that one was pretty damn good.

The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, which might be enough to validate its production for most auteurs. It’ unknown what his problem was with the second installment, which followed Michael Corleone’s tumultuous reign at the top and featured flashbacks to Vito’s days of cutting his teeth as a gangster.

I’m trying to think of a sarcastic or funny take on the film that could have caused Coppola to dislike the movie, but I’m drawing blanks. It’s awesome.

Also, we’ve spent enough time ignoring the elephant in the room – Francis Ford Coppola hangs out at nightclubs in Hollywood?

Yikes. And I thought John Landis had gone downhill.

Francis Ford Coppola has proven himself as an auteur whose indelible mark has changed the face of storytelling in film. His influence can still be found today in many popular films and movies. Which leads me to ask, what the hell is this?

After watching this trailer for Twixt, I’m just not sure what Coppola’s intent is. Is he trying to strip Troll 2 of its best worst movie title? Not cool, man. Those Best Worst Movie guys already printed up all those posters! Anyway, check it out. It’s pretty weird. Val Kilmer plays a crappy horror writer investigating mysterious deaths in a small town, but the whole thing reads like it was produced by a teenager going through their Stephen King phase.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a serious craving for a Twix.

Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi has been banned from filmmaking for twenty years. Harsh. It's not like he directed Yogi Bear.

"Serious, bro?"

Might be time for Jafar Panahi to quit his day job. The Iranian filmmaker was arrested in 2009 for publicly mourning protesters who were killed while demonstrating against presidential election results (psst… hey Iran. I also heard Brett Ratner was there). Now he’s being sentenced to six years in prison (not the sexy kind from cable television), and being banned from filmmaking for twenty.

Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Francis Ford Coppola have spoken out publicly in support of Panahi, and an appeal has been called for. Says Scorcese, “C’mon. It’s not like he directed Yogi Bear.”

Granted, this seems extreme to those of us in the western world. But is it really all that bad? He’s only banned from filmmaking, not film developing. And I heard FotoMat is hiring. Dude will be fine. (The Guardian)

For all of you Francis Ford Coppola fans who are anxiously awaiting The Godfather 3D, I'm sorry to tell you it ain't gonna happen. In an interview with ElectronicHouse, the legendary director came out swinging against the craze, saying that most films aren't enhanced by 3D, except at the box office. “I feel that until you can watch 3D without glasses, it’s the same thing we know,” he says. “I personally do not want to watch a movie with glasses. It’s tiresome.” Coppola says he even removed his 3D glasses to watch portions of “Avatar,” even though it meant he was watching out of focus. Who does this guy think he is? I recently watched Clash of the Titans in 3D, and let me tell you that it was a thousand times better than The Godfather I & II combined! If Coppola has any hope of his films being accepted by future generations, he'll convert his entire catalog to 3D at once. That way we can watch Jack in the third dimension, as it was meant to be experienced. (CinemaBlend)
