I never noticed at the time but, thanks to this supercut, the Fraggles really are the angsty, goth teenagers of the Jim Henson universe. I wouldn’t be surprised if Boober were a cutter.

Last we heard, The Weinstein Company were cooling their jets on the Fraggle Rock movie because the script wasn’t sexy or violent enough. Now, thanks to Red’s leaked cell-phone nudie pics this past weekend, this baby suddenly has some traction.

We’re not sure if Hoodwinked‘s Cory Edwards is still on board to write and direct but there is news that the film will help you to trip your balls off. Jake Shears and Babydaddy of the psychodelic/disco group Scissor Sisters will write musical numbers for the film. Though this is in no way a confirmation that the film has a new script, it may be a case of a script being based around the songs. The band was “spawned by the scuzzy, gay nightlife scene of New York.” I’m not sure that’s the edge for which the Weinsteins were hoping, but I can imagine a sweaty club full of shirtless doozers squeezing balloons between their chests until they pop. You gotta find a way to blow off steam after a long day on the job site. Just nobody tell Victoria Jackson. (via The Playlist)

Weinsteins Slowly, Quietly Lower Dynamite Into ‘Fraggle Rock’

Is it any surprise that the mean old Weinsteins are slow to move on the “Fraggle Rock” movie that would bring mirth and merriment to so many? Of course it’s not. But you can’t really fault them from a business standpoint. “Fraggle Rock” brings back enough nostalgia that, when someone says to me, “Hey, did you know that they’re making a “Fraggle Rock” movie?” I would respond with, “Haha. Really? That’s awesome.” I would then never see the film unless I was hungover and it was playing on FX.

I don’t think I’m alone there, either. “Fraggle Rock” doesn’t exactly occupy the same spot in our hearts that the Muppets do, and it occupies no place in the hearts of younger generations. The Weinstein’s presumably fear with the impending The Muppet Movie, that there can be only one, so they will wait until those Muppets teach us how to love and laugh again, then move in for the Fraggle kill.

Then again, how much money can a “Fraggle Rock” movie really cost? Like $600 in felt and maybe another $200 in fake rocks? *Changing mind* Loosen the pursestrings, Weinsteins. (/Film)

An Older, More Sophisticated ‘Fraggle’ Movie

Last month, director/screenwriter Corey Edwards started a pissing match with the Weinstei Brothers over a possible new Fraggle movie. In a post on his blog, Edwards claimed that the Weinsteins were searching for a new screenwriter because his version was not "edgy" enough. Now comes word that Edwards and the Weinsteins have cleared the air, probably due to the fact that Edwards is contractually obligated to direct the film.

I’ve been able to sit down with Weinstein’s new VP of Development and really talk about their issues with the movie. We’ve had some very good conversations about what they think “edgy” is and what I think “edgy” is. We got down to the philosophies of why to even make a Fraggle movie in the first place. And I think they’ve been able to qualify their word “edgy” with the word “older.” They want this movie to connect with an older, more sophisticated audience.

I’m surprised this is even an issue. What can be more "sophisticated" than a bunch of glorified sock puppets singing and dancing in a magical underground world? As the following quote from Jim Henson demonstrates, sophistication is what the Fraggles are all about.

‘Fraggle Rock’ Script Needs More Sex and Violence

Have you ever watched an episode of "Fraggle Rock" and thought, "Hey, this shit needs to be more f**king edgy and gritty, like I am, beotch!" If so, you’re in luck.

Director/Screenwriter Corey Edwards has taken to the interwebs to complain that the Weinsteins are squeezing him out of the ‘Fraggle’ script because his version is “not edgy enough.”

I enjoy working with other writers and have no doubt that the RIGHT person could help make any script better. But to not even ask me? Adding insult to injury, the search is basically an open assignment. This means the net has been cast wide, virtually posting in the “classifieds” of the movie business. The Fraggles do not deserve such treatment.

Now, I like "Fraggle Rock" as much as the next unoriginal retro-addicted douche bag, but I’m not exactly sure what type of treatment Fraggles "deserve." It’s not like we’re talking about the regular Muppets, here. If the Weinsteins want to remake Bad Lieutenant with the "Fraggle Rock" gang, I say let ‘em. They’re animals anyway, so let them lose their souls. (SlashFilm)
