According to BloodyDisgusting.com, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures are tentatively planning to move ahead with another chapter in the indestructible Final Destination series. Hooray for all you Rube Goldberg porn aficionados!

Sources close to BD have stated that a story “needs to be nailed down” before Final Destination 6 moves forward with production, which is hilarious, because it acts as if the five previous installments of the franchise told more of a “story” than the screenplay equivalent of  horror movie Mad Libs (Wendy tries to save _____ but he is ____ by a ____!). Still, when you’re averaging over a $100 million return per film, who can blame you for mindlessly crapping out a new one every few years? Not since the Pet Rock has so little creative effort yielded such lucrative results!

But the appeal of the Final Destination films cannot be found in their carbon-copied plots, nor can it be found in their brunette, Gap-Fall-collection protagonists. Simply put, it’s all about the kills. It’s simple: Gather a bunch of unlikeable teens together in your typical serial killer plot, switch out the serial killer for Death itself, and see how many intricate ways you can kill off said unlikeable teens. While the franchise’s understanding of things like physics and human anatomy are shaky at best the victims bodies are often treated like boneless sacks of blood and meat, basically — the results so far have been nothing short of hilarious, so join us as we look back at some of the series’ finest moments.

Cause of death has not been released but Deadline reports that director David R. Ellis has died unexpectedly while in South Africa prepping his next film, the live-action adaptation of the anime Kite.

His career began as an actor before leading to stunt coordinating which in turn eventually lead to directing. While best known for pitting Samuel L. Jackson against poisonous snakes at 30,000 feet in Snakes On A Plane, his best film is Final Destination 2. The sequel raised the bar on gore and splatter in the series and remains the pinnacle of what those films can be. Say what you will about his other films, Shark Night 3D, Cellular, the idiotically NASCAR-based The Final Destination, but it’s only appropriate to play him off with his greatest work — the spectacular car crash from Final Destination 2. Our condolences.

Death Doing A Really Bad Job At Stalking The ‘Final Destination’ Series http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/death-doing-a-really-bad-job-at-stalking-the-final-destination-series/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/death-doing-a-really-bad-job-at-stalking-the-final-destination-series/#comments Tue, 01 Feb 2011 17:25:30 +0000 Joseph Gibson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=23706 How many movies can they turn out with the word "final" in the title?

First of all, it’s not set in stone that the 5th entry in the Final Destination series is going to be called 5nal Destination. I just really, really hope it is, because “5nal” looks more like “anal” than “final,” and that’s funny.

Anyway, apparent Final Destination star Tony Todd recently had this to say about the possibility of additional sequels to the 5nal adventure:

“Thumbs up! Thumbs way up. They expanded my part, and the producer told me as we were leaving Vancouver that if it opens at Number 1 – which statistically it has – they’re going to shoot the next two simultaneously.”

So basically, they’re going to keep churning this shit out until people stop going to see it. I’m going to buy multiple tickets for all of these, so I can see how they’re going to incorporate the numbers into the titles. You do the same and we might live to see F15nal Destin8tion. (via SlashFilm)

Apparently Emma Bell jives well with horror. Currently portraying a survivor of the zombie apocalypse in AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” Bell will take on the role of Death’s leading female target in the fifth installment of the Final Destination series next year. After she’s done battling the undead and narrowly escaping the omnipresent creepiness of the Grim Reaper, we’re assuming she’ll take on that evil leprechaun dude while evading Jason Voorhees and carrying on a romantic relationship with Freddy Kruger. That’s a total guess, though.

‘Final Destination 5′ To Be (Directed By Cameron’s) Number Two http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/final-destination-5-to-be-directed-by-camerons-number-two/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/final-destination-5-to-be-directed-by-camerons-number-two/#comments Wed, 09 Jun 2010 16:38:42 +0000 Defy Media "Derp! Why did I drive into this log?"Still no word on what totally retarded plot contrivances will make their way into Final Destination 5, but today we have news that a director has been hired. Avatar's 2nd HMFIC, Steven Quale, will be in charge of impaling sexy teens for the fifth go-round. Really though, who builds a javelin manufactory next to batting cages? That's an accident waiting to happen.Quale has a lot of experience with 3D, having co-directed the underwater documentary Aliens of the Abyss with James Cameron as well as serving as 2nd Unit Director on Avatar, so perhaps this movie won't be a complete wash-out. No details from Eric Heisserer's script have been released, so we don't know what narrowly-avoided cataclysmic event will serve as a catalyst for the plot. The fourth entry was based around a NASCAR race gone horribly awry, and seeing how these movies get progressively dumber, I'm going to say this one opens with an Insane Clown Posse concert fire. R.I.P. Juggalos. C U in Shangri-La. (THR)
