Fat Man, the potential Sandler vehicle that would see him in a fat suit playing an 800 lb. man, has already gotten some interest from director Miguel Arteta (Cedar Rapids, Youth In Revolt), who told First Showing that he wanted to direct the film in an interview at Sundance:

“I’d love to do a movie with Adam Sandler that… someone said he was flirting with? It’s called Fat Man. I don’t know if you’ve heard about this? One of the main writers of The Simpsons wrote the script and it’s amazing. He would play an 800lbs. guy who has a love affair between him and his nurse. And he’s naked for the first half of the film… and it’s very touching… and it’s very funny.”

Hmm. Well… Arteta’s a perfectly competent director, and Sandler HAS been funny (in his life), but this sounds like The Nutty Professor 2 as directed by James L. Brooks. It remains to be seem whether that’s a good or bad thing.
