That Sean Penn is participating in the reunion is a little more surprising. That the reunion will take place on Spike TV where Robert DeNiro will present the cast with an award is so surprising it makes my eyes bleed.

Phoebe Cates and Jennifer Jason Leigh will not be in attendance, which pretty much undermines the whole premise of the award, but whatever. It’s Spike TV, so we just smile politely and nod.

The movie is being “inducted” into the “Guy Movie Hall of Fame.” I’m tossing quotes around those things because I don’t take anything Spike TV does seriously, so I’m just going to make fun of their little awards. Further, Fast Times doesn’t really strike me as a “guy movie.” I mean, it’s a guy movie in that guys have watched it, but I really don’t think of Fast Times as a “guy movie” any more than I do Amistad or The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Oh, how I hope they do a Mr. Ripley reunion next year with Phillip Seymour Hoffman!

The “ceremony” tapes this Saturday and airs June 10th. (EW)
