We have picture proof, tweeted by Sofia Vergara herself, that the beautiful Colombian actress is being mistaken for a punching bag on the set of the Three Stooges movie. These horrific shots show in great detail the abuse Vergara is undergoing for the sake of slapstick comedy. One would assume the Stooges are slapping and eye-poking much harder now than they did in the old days. Learn how to pull your punches, Larry, Moe, and Curly. The world isn’t done ogling Sofia yet.

I’m just playin’, y’all! The above set pics provided by On Location Vacations were taken during the filming of a car crash scene. The ones that Sofia herself tweeted are supposedly a result of the same scene, but I also know how Moe gets when his hand towels aren’t on the rack straight. Don’t let him intimidate you, girl. There are people who can help if you’re willing to let them.

‘Stooges’ Finds Greek Frontrunner For Moe http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/stooges-finds-a-fronrunner-for-moe-his-name-wont-fit-in-this-headline-though/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/stooges-finds-a-fronrunner-for-moe-his-name-wont-fit-in-this-headline-though/#comments Tue, 26 Apr 2011 00:08:32 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=208991 Sadly, casting Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe still makes more sense than the Sean Hayes thing.

As the Mayans had predicted, it would appear the last piece of the triumvirate is in place. Variety reports that the recently anointed Will Sasso (Curly) and Sean Hayes (Larry) may be joined by Chris Diamantopoulos who is the frontrunner for Moe in “The Three Stooges” movie. As a journalist who will have to type the names of these actors many times over the next few months, I’m praying that it goes to anyone else. Maybe Eric Bana, or retired (and dead) NY Giant baseball legend Mel Ott. Those are my suggestions for Moe.

Diamantopoulos is best known for his work i”24,” though it was his portrayal of Robin Williams in a made-for-TV movie that caught the eye of the Farrell brothers. Both Johnny Knoxville and Hank Azaria had been considered for the role as well.

The movie, set for release in 2012, will consist of three half-hour “PG” segments, which should still require too much focus for most audiences. They should consider webisodes.

I went into Hall Pass thinking I’d have to accept the stereotype and appreciate what comedy could be mined from it, if any. Personally, I don’t have a desire to not be in a committed relationship. But, I know there’s this public fantasy about getting a free pass, so that could be funny. The film actually has a clever perspective and good values.

Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) are married men in a rut, or two separate ruts to be accurate. Rick’s wife Maggie (Jenna Fischer) hears about hall pass from her friend Dr. Lucy (Joy Behar). It’s actually designed to make the men appreciate their wives when they inevitably try and fail to seduce young hotties.

Already this is a pro-relationship movie. It’s manipulative but the idea is to reinforce the value on monogamy. The misguided intention of that is funnier than any bickering opposites attract rom-com. Rick doesn’t want the pass. I’m with that. Fred’s more eager when his wife Grace (Christina Applegate) follows suit but you know he’s going to learn his lesson. Sudeikis is the ultimate comedy buddy. He’s the perfect instigator but never obnoxious.

The big joke is not to have a raucous wife-free party, but rather that these guys are total posers. Just the introduction of “Day 1” is hilarious. Then the delays and the setbacks take up half the week. The film doesn’t overstay the premise. They do the joke and then cut to the next development. Old guys get tired, boom. They suck at the bar scene, boom. The guys who want that party fantasy may be disappointed, but it speaks to me.

The group of friends is really funny. Flats (J.B. Smove), Gary (Stephen Merchant), and Hog-Head (Larry Joe Campbell) make a classic group of funny companions, even though they unfortunately disappear halfway through. The plot kicks in a little with Rick’s real prospect, Leigh (Nicky Whelan), but it’s always on point. These guys get into hilarious trouble trying to cash in their hall pass.

This is the Farrelly Brothers’ best movie since There’s Something About Mary. I know, I know, even better than Stuck on You. They’re more subdued here. It’s not about crushing pussy or penises stuck in zippers. The penises here are tame compared to Forgetting Sarah Marshall or Walk Hard. Fake chow funny because it makes sense (I’m opposed to it, ladies, but I get why it exists.) Jerking off illustrates the mature feelings of a married man. The joke is the reactions to it, not a cum shot. Okay, there are two poop scenes but the first is somewhere I’ve never seen it before, and the second is earned with character.

It’s not golden era Farrellys like Kingpin but it’s good. Fischer and Applegate have thankless parts. They’re really the cutaways to have the serious relationship talk. They give some counterpoint to what’s going on with the guys, but it’s not funny or perceptive.

There are two scenes where characters’ embarrassing conversations are caught by surveillance. That’s redundant and not that funny either time.

Hall Pass is the first real comedy of the year. It’s worth staying for the credits for another scene with Gary and Hog-Head. There’s a blooper near the end of the credits that’s not great but it pays off the jerking off joke. And there’s a final blooper and dedication which you should also stay for, because come on, you’ve already gotten to music credits. Honestly, after The Dilemma The Eagle Unknown Just Go With It, Never Say Never and all the January movies I didn’t see, it’s relief.

Johnny Knoxville and Andy Samberg are close to landing roles in 20th Century Fox‘s Three Stooges, The Wrap is reporting. The pair, along with Australian comic Shane Jacobson, would play Larry, Curly and Moe, characters that were previously tied to Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Jim Carrey.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly are on board to direct the film, which was originally part of MGM‘s lineup before financial troubles forced the studio to abandon the project. It’s a shame MGM couldn’t hold onto the rights. Mel Gibson did a TV movie based on the Stooges a few years back, and look at him now!

Are the Farrelly brothers about to escape development hell? Maybe. Twentieth Century Fox is taking over the brothers’ long-awaited modern day The Three Stooges adaptation, pulling the project from the clammy grip of the now-officially-bankrupt MGM.

The change in studio oversight is accompanied by a tentative start date for the comedy: Twentieth Century wants to begin shooting on March 14, 2011. An ambitious milestone, but whether it’ll actually happen hinges on how soon Bobby and Peter Farrelly can secure a cast. So far, things are looking shaky. At one point, Sean Penn, Jim Carrey, and Benicio Del Toro were on board to play the trio of lovable idiots. That lineup was all but lost, however, when Penn and Carrey both dropped out, leaving questions about whether Del Toro would stay on. At the moment, there are no official cast confirmations, but the Farrellys remain optimistic.

“The script is ready to go, and we are opening up these roles to the world right now,” Peter Farrelly said. “We’ll make it with the best possible people. Our feeling is that no star is too big to audition and no matter who it is, we’re going to have to see him in the role. This is not ‘The Flintstones.’ You’ve got to be Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard, and that could be a major movie star or at unknown.”

The script, which was written by the Farrellys and actor Mike Cerrone, will place the Stooges in the present day, starting from their shared childhood at an orphanage and following them through adulthood. I’m already doubting the realism of this film considering that these days any child who displays the sort of erratic behavior that characterizes the Stooges is immediately prescribed massive amounts of Ritalin and/or enrolled in special ed. Looks like I just gave you your hook, boys. Sean Penn might return to the project if he can play a retard. (Deadline)
