The star of 'Rope' and 'Strangers on a Train' will be missed.

<a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/farley-granger-rip300.jpg”>Farley Granger isn’t one of the most recognizable names from Hollywood’s golden age. But if you like good movies, there’s an excellent chance you’ve come across him at least once. His most famous work today is his two movies with Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock, Rope and Strangers on a Train. In both movies, he plays a hapless man who gets caught up in a murder plot, with varying degrees of complicity. And he allegedly got those parts when Hitchcock saw a screening of perhaps his greatest performance, in They Live By Night from Nicholas Ray.

After 1951′s Strangers on a Train, his career on the big screen began to taper off a bit, but he continued to work there and on the stage for years. He was 85.
