If a reboot isn’t gritty, is it really even a reboot? Unwilling to even tempt the premise of that question, the producers of the new Fantastic Four starring Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell will just go ahead and make it gritty.

More specifically, the writer, Simon Kinberg (such a writer name, by the way) said the film will be “a more realistic, a more gritty, grounded” version of the story. So it’s going to be a more realistic telling of a story that involves a man made out of rock and a woman that stretches.

But don’t worry if you think it will be too serious. “It’s still fun,” elaborated Kinberg. Oh thank Christ. Though it didn’t capture him saying it in the HitFix interview, Kinberg also promised that it will be a favorite film of people who love animals, and those who hate animals. It might also possibly be a film that is fun for the whole family, but ESPECIALLY fun for people who, for one reason or another, have no family.

In short, the Fantastic Four is going to be everything to everyone. According to the guy who wrote the Fantastic Four.

In keeping with the current trend of upsetting fanboys, it seems that Josh Trank‘s Fantastic Four reboot will also be turning some classic characters on their ear.

First, the good news. Emmy Rossum is now in the mix to play Sue Storm. As of right now, it’s between her, Margot Robbie and Kate Mara. All fine choices. It’s just a shame they’ll spend a third of the movie invisible.

Now, the news that will cause asthma attacks. THR also reports that Dr. Doom will once again return as the villain. However, this time the filmmakers are not opposed to switching it up by having Dr. Doom played by a woman who has boobs and everything. I don’t want to come off as sexist by disliking this so I’ll caution that I’m only reacting from a pragmatic place. But, I’m sorry, this makes no sense. Can women even BE doctors?

Whichever gender they decide upon, it’s said that the studio is looking for a big name. Thus, the stage is set for a major Renee Zellweger comeback.

The Fantastic Four reboot that was inevitable due to the success of the other superhero ensemble film, The Avengers, now has a script. It just needs four actors. Whether or not those actors are deemed “fantastic” will be at my sole discretion.

Kit Harrington and Miles Teller are supposedly up for the role of Reed Richards, and Saoirse Ronan from Hanna and Kate Mara are vying for the role of Sue Storm. Exciting stuff.

More certain is the role of Johnny Storm (Who names these characters? Oh yeah. Stan Lee.), which is thought to be set for Michael B. Jordan.

Regardless of who they get, this film will theaters in June of 2015, and will hopefully be better than the last one.

Because the only thing better than a well-written, original film is taking existing franchises, and slamming them together like a child with too many toys and a Pixie Stick addiction, Fox is doing just that. The studio has reported that the project ISN’T happening, put trying to unring this bell is like trying to take piss out of a swimming pool.

The modern-day Medici’s that head the studio will jump all over an idea for X-Men people, of whom there are about 600, will clash or team up with the Fantastic Four, of whom there are between three and five, roughly.

It doesn’t matter what this film will be about, because it’s just going to be an Avengers knock-off between two lesser properties that have been mediocre for a decade or so.

And it will make a billion dollars, proving that movie execs are geniuses only because they continue to bet big on the refusal of audiences to embrace a new idea.

So I’ll go ahead and break the news on a sequel and spin-offs right here as well.

Allison Williams Being Considered For ‘Fantastic Four’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/allison-williams-being-considered-for-fantastic-four/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/allison-williams-being-considered-for-fantastic-four/#comments Wed, 01 May 2013 15:36:44 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254654 Hipster Reed Richards approves of this news.

The hot one from Girls is making moves. Allison Williams has been cast in her feature as the lead in Rosaline. The Shawn Levy-produced film is a modern spin on Romeo and Juliet told from the perspective of the girl Romeo dated before Juliet. Ten bucks says the grief-bangs Benvolio after Romeo’s funeral.

But, we wouldn’t waste your time with news about Shakespeare only. Williams’ takeover of Hollywood doesn’t end there, as she is reportedly on the shortlist for the Fantastic Four reboot. Assumption is that she’s being looked to portray a sorta mannish Sue Storm/Invisible Woman. (Deadline)

"Kiss my ass, screenwriters."

Poor Jessica Alba wa taken out of context, and I’m not just talking about this article’s headline.

The actress is trying to set the record straight after Elle Magazine quoted her as saying, “Good actors never use the script unless it’s amazing writing,” and “All the good actors I’ve worked with, they all say whatever they want to say.”

Ironically enough, this ruffled the feathers of John August, the screenwriter behind Charlie’s Angels. Did that film even have dialogue?

At any rate, after August criticized her comments on his blog, Alba tried to set things right with a bit of ridiculous overcompensation: “Just so it’s clear, films don’t even get made and nothing ever gets a green light unless there’s great material.”

Say what? We live in a world where someone green lit a Nazi-themed version of The Nutcracker. At least her original comments made sense, considering she starred in The Love Guru and The Fantastic Four. I’m sure no one stuck with the script on those films, mainly because half of the actors involved couldn’t read. (Cinema Blend)

The ‘Thing’ Is: Bruce Willis or Kiefer Sutherland? http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/the-thing-is-bruce-willis-or-kiefer-sutherland/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/the-thing-is-bruce-willis-or-kiefer-sutherland/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Twentieth Century Fox is putting together a cast for their latest version of the Fantastic Four, and Bruce Willis is reportedly at the top of their list to play the Thing. But Screen Rant is reporting that Kiefer Sutherland is also in contention for the role. Since the character will be completely CGI, whoever is cast will be utilized primarily for voice over work. However, the actor will also make an appearance early on in the film as Ben Grimm, the Thing's identity before he was transformed into a rock monster. Personally, I'm torn between the two actors. Both are more than qualified to play a pile of rocks. However, I give the slight edge to Kiefer since he's spent a good portion of his life "stoned." Sorry. It's been a rough weekend.
