Called That Sh*t: Elton John Wants Justin Timberlake For Biopic ‘Rocketman’

As I prophesized like a Mayan or something, Elton John wants Justin Timberlake to play him in his biopic Rocketman. This wouldn’t be Timberlake’s first time donning crazy pants and weird glasses to play the legendary music icon. Says John, “I’ve got a wish list of people. No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake, because he played me before in a David LaChapelle video of ‘Rocket Man’ and was superb.”

Though he does acknowledge this is merely his wishlist for right now, they do have a director on board. That will be announced soon as the script comes together. He also explains that we can expect anything but your run of the mill biopic.

…would be a jukebox musical in earnest, maybe with a couple of new songs. You never know. Because it’s going to be a surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of a Moulin Rouge! I just don’t want it to be a normal biopic because my life hasn’t been like that.

That’s cool. Still seems pretty weird to be making your own biopic though. (LA Times)

Elton John has announced plans to bring his life to the screen with the biopic Rocketman. The film is purported to be radically different than other biopics with a non-linear story and wild visuals juxtaposed to John’s biggest hits. But who can play this larger than life icon? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is likely busy with G.I. Joe commitments and Jackie Chan isn’t the draw that he once was.

Who to choose? Who to choose?

Robert Downey Jr

Robert Downey Jr. has already proven he can effectively lip sync Elton John’s music in the video for “I Want Love.” He’s also wrestled with his own substance abuse issues. I’m not certain whether or not he can play the piano but there’s no reason that should be a strike against him.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake has actually played a young Elton John before during the Rocketman’s phase where he was too lazy to appear in his own videos. This was just around the time that Timberlake had gone solo and was looking to branch out into acting and there’s no better way to sever your boy band image than by appearing on-screen with simulated orgies and cocaine use. Just ask Rod, the little-known fourth member of Hanson.

Carol Burnett

She’s no stranger to loud jackets and she’s got the haircut down. No doubt in my mind that this could be Carol Burnett’s comeback project.

Elton John Biopic To Be As Subtle, Understated As The Man Himself

Music biopics are often made about dead rock heroes, but why not one about one who’s still living? Some Hollywood producer must have thought the same thing, since Elton John recently described a movie to be made out of his life. Here he is on the as-yet-untitled Elton John movie:

“It will be more of a fantasy, Moulin Rouge type of stuff. Obviously, it’s not going to be your normal, run-of-the-mill film. My life’s been so surreal, from buying a football club to God knows what.”

Silly Elton, you don’t play football with clubs! This movie is going to be awesome. No word yet on who’s going to play Elton John – Maybe Justin Timberlake? (Collider)
