That headline may have caused some heart palpitations, so let me break it down for you. Quentin Tarantino‘s Jackie Brown was based on the Elmore Leonard novel 1992 Rum Punch. Rum Punch utilized many of the same characters as Elmore Leonard’s 1978 novel The Switch, which features younger versions of both the Samuel L. Jackson and Robert DeNiro characters. Those younger characters will be played by Mos Def and John Hawkes, but I won’t tell you who’s playing what role because I get off on being witholding.

Hang on. I’m not done clarifying.

Jennifer Aniston and Dennis Quaid are likely going to star in the film based on The Switch, which is now titled simply Switch, because Jennifer Aniston was already in a movie called The Switch.

Ok. Now a few words on the plot. Switch will focus on a husband (Quaid) who refuses to pay the ransom for his wife (Aniston) who he doesn’t want back. Aniston teams up with the kidnappers for revenge.

Katie Cassidy In Talks To Be Really Hot In ‘Freaky Deaky’

Brendan Frasen and Matt Dillon will be in fiiiiine company on the Freaky Deaky set. A Nightmare On Elm Street‘s Katie Cassidy is in talks to play the female lead in the Charles Matthau-directed adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel.

Cassidy will play Robin Abbot, an ex-hippie radical who served time for blowing up a police car. After her release, she reconnects with Brendan Fraser (thankfully back in a big boy role) to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars. Matt Dillon plays a bomb squad officer who stumbles upon their plot.

The production is also on the hunt for a new William H. Macy now that William H. Macy has left the project. I would recommend William H. Macy but he can’t do it. (Variety)

Camilla Belle Gets ‘Freaky Deaky’ With William H. Macy

An Elmore Leonard book about crime is being made into a movie, which has been done so many times, I’m not sure that even technically counts as “news.” However, Camilla Belle‘s joining Freaky Deaky‘s cast is news, so let’s focus on that. The actress will play one half of an ex-couple with an extreme political agenda who get back together for a job that will net them millions. William H. Macy has long been attached to star in the film as well, though it’s unclear if he would play Belle’s ex-boyfriend (unlikely…I mean, look at her and look at him) or a police bomb squad expert who tries to take them down (more likely).

Walter Matthau’s son Charles was most recently attached to direct the film after producers cycled through a laundry list of interested parties, though confirmation is still outstanding there. The movie is to be set in Leonard’s familiar stomping ground of Detroit and is said to feature a “twisty” plot. So you best arrive at the theater with your thinking cap.

Freaky Deaky was written in 1987, which surprised me to learn that the phrase had been around that long. Let’s hope, if William H. Macy is involved, that it isn’t a harbinger of the subject matter of the film. Kinky sex and Bill Macy are two great things that always ought be kept separate. (Playlist)

A prequel of Jackie Brown has been written based off the novel The Switch by Elmore Leonard, which is a prequel to his novel Rum Punch, the book Quentin Tarantino read and then disregarded when making Jackie Brown. Tarantino has given his blessing on The Switch, but is not involved, so that means the source material probably won’t get completely bitch-slapped. Dan Schechter wrote the screenplay and the search for a director and cast is about to begin.

Jackie Brown characters Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson) and Louis Gara (Robert De Niro) originated from The Switch, but Tarantino decided to focus on sassy Jackie and Motown music when he made his film. The prequel will follow young Ordell and Louis who, after hitting it off in prison, decide to kidnap the wife of a wealthy land developer and hold her for ransom. The twist? He doesn’t want his wife back! This mashup of Overboard and Ernest Goes to Camp through the adapted eyes of Elmore Leonard is sure to be a… Nope, that word doesn’t exist. (JoBlo)
