Robert De Niro To Learn Spanish For Boxing Film ‘Hands Of Stone’

Robert De Niro has decided to squeeze one more boxing film in before he gets too old and decrepit to put any force behind his arms. He’s signed on for Hands Of Stone, a biopic about legendary boxing champ, who I just learned of, Roberto Durán. De Niro will play trainer Ray Arcel to Zero Dark Thirty‘s Édgar Ramírez’s Durán in the film that charts Durán’s legendary brawls with Sugar Ray Leonard, culminating in the bizarre, final match where Durán decided he didn’t like getting punched anymore and quit mid-fight while crying out “No mas.”

Producer Jay Weisleder says “The story of Roberto Duran and Ray Arcel is not only a homage to the golden days of boxing; it is most importantly the story of a fatherless man who teaches every single one of us the true meaning of never giving up.” Except, of course, the part at the very end when Durán famously gives up. Edgar Ramirez Stocking Up On Kryptonite

The question of who will play which bad guy in Zack Snyder‘s Superman movie is on everyone’s mind, since everyone loves bad guys. Now it’s being rumored that Edgar Ramirez, fresh off of the indie darling Carlos and now working on the sequel to Clash of the Titans, is being looked at to play either General Zod or another Superman villain in the movie.

He doesn’t have the star-power or name recognition of a Viggo Mortensen, who before declining the part (maybe he thinks he’s too good to be a Superman villain!) was previously rumored as being sought for General Zod, but he according to some he does have the talent. Anyway, right now it’s just a rumor, but a plausible one. We’ll see what happens between now and the movie’s December, 2012 release date. (via The Latino Review)

Actors Willingly Join ‘Wrath Of The Titans’

News today is that actors are willingly joining Wrath Of The Titans. Good ones too! What’s up with that?

The Bourne Ultimatum‘s Edgar Ramirez and Prince Of Persia‘s Toby Kebbell are in advanced talks to join the unnecessary sequel. Kebbell will play Poseidon’s son, Agenor. Ramirez’s role is unspecified, so let’s just make up a name that sounds mythological. He will play Percertorious. Yeah. I like the sound of that.

Also, considering dressing up in stupid wardrobe for the project is the awesome Bill Nighy, Hayley Atwell, and Clemence Poesy. If they can act with a straight face, they’re shoe-ins. (Deadline and The Wrap)
