I like this idea. I might not watch it, but I like it.

Upon first reading, this news may cause an involuntary eye roll, but NBC spinning off Rainn Wilson‘s Dwight Schrute into his own show may not be such a bad thing. The Office has gotten pretty stale since Jim and Pam popped out their kid a couple years ago. The show hasn’t yet been picked up for a ninth season, and if this spin-off keeps that from happening (unlikely), then it might just be worth it.

The good news about a Dwight Schrute spin-off is that a) it has a built in fan base, even if that base is dwindling, and b) with a much smaller budget, the show can be more irreverent and fun, not having to carry such bland mass appeal.

THR reports the show would naturally dive deeper into Dwight’s character and pursuits, including his family, his farm, and his bed and breakfast. If this show isn’t all beets all the time, then it’s headed in the wrong direction.

As a tribute to his efforts and ultimate success, we give to you the nine most bad ass moments of Dwight K. Schrute.

Tonight, after seven painful years, Dwight K. Schrute will finally realize his dream of becoming the acting manager of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch. And with the departure of Will Ferrell‘s character (Deangelo Vickers) from “The Office,” who better to lead than Dwight? Season after season, Schrute has proven himself as the alpha male, using his superior intellect and cunning to best his foes. As a tribute to his efforts and ultimate success, we present to you the nine most bad ass moments of Dwight K. Schrute.

The Great Escape (S.1 : Ep.4)

Early on in the series, Dwight proved himself a master of cloak and dagger. While attempting to glean information by hiding in a cardboard box, Schrute was double-crossed and left for dead. But using his survival instincts and his handy pocket knife, Dwight managed to free himself.

Junk Yard Brawl (S.6 : Ep.20)

Nobody talks shit to Dwight K. Schrute, not even his boss and mentor Michael Scott. So when Michael gets cocky while the two are searching through a garbage dump for missing leads, Dwight isn’t afraid to throw down. It’s almost like Anaki fighting Obi Wan.

The Anti-Flashing Task Force (S.3 : Ep.22)

When a pervert flashes Phylis in the parking lot, it doesn’t take Dwight long to set up a task force. Don’t worry, this won’t interfere with his other task forces, as it’s been given priority.

Parkour (S.6 : Ep.1)

Being the bad ass that he is, it was only a matter of time before Dwight took up Parkour. Frankly, I’m surprised it took as long as it did.

Who did this to you? (S.3 : Ep.11)

This isn’t “bad ass” in the traditional sense. But the speed with which Dwight comes to Pam’s aid upon thinking she had been attacked really speaks volumes. And his ability to defuse the situation is bad ass in its own way.

Master of Disguise (S.7 : Ep.11)

What’s more bad ass than going undercover and assuming someone’s identity? Doing so in order to pelt your enemy with snowballs.

Update: We Failed (S.5 : Ep.6)

As was pointed out in the comments, this is Creed, not Dwight. Sorry for being an idiot.

Dwight Pepper Sprays Roy (S.3 : Ep.19)

Dwight and Jim might not always get along. In fact, Dwight pretty much hates Jim. But that doesn’t stop him from coming to Jim’s aid when he is attacked by Pam’s meat-head boyfriend, Roy. For Dwight, law and order trump petty personal differences.

The Element of Surprise (S.6 : Ep.10)

There’s only one man who can take down Dwight K. Schrute. And that man is Dwight K. Schrute. So when Dwight goes head to head with himself, the result is an all-out orgy of destruction. Luckily for Dwight, he has the element of surprise on his side.
