It would seem, even after spending a day off of work, and (for some) spending time with their families for Christmas, some people still want to talk about Duck Dynasty.

We are not such people. So rather than flog the dead horse and report what Joe the Shit Rag and Gretel Von Windowlicker think about a redneck being a redneck, we’re going to spend some more time with our families. Well, our families left, but this bottle of bourbon laughs at all our jokes and didn’t overcook the damn turkey on Christmas even though we said that someone should check on it like forty times, but no one did because the bottle of booze had money riding on the Hawaii Bowl.

Ugh. Whatever. It’s a magical time of year, and a big part of that magic isn’t reporting on or reading about stupid shit. So go THROW a snowball at an authority figure, then nap until it’s time to eat again.

Diet starts tomorrow, fatty.

Sarah Palin Supports Suspended ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star, Doesn’t Know Exactly What Free Speech Is http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/sarah-palin-supports-suspended-duck-dynasty-star-doesnt-know-exactly-what-free-speech-is/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/sarah-palin-supports-suspended-duck-dynasty-star-doesnt-know-exactly-what-free-speech-is/#comments Thu, 19 Dec 2013 18:30:17 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=258443 I'm sure free speech would have been taught at the VIce Presidential Boot Camp, had she gotten the nod.

A Duck Dynasty star has been suspended by A&E for saying something that has been perceived by many as less than flattering as regards the homosexual community. No surprise there. I wouldn’t expect a man whose life revolves around rural duck hunting to really understand the way other parts of the world work, so fine, whatever.

Someone I (stupidly) thought WOULD know something about how the rest of the nation works is Sarah Palin. I know. Very stupid of me. She has stood in support of the suspended Phil Robertson, saying on her Facebook page (the Gettysburg of the 2010′s), that “Free speech is an endangered species.”

And that’s when we learned that an earnest contender for the second-highest post in the land didn’t understand the one of the central tenets upon which this country was founded.

Free speech is something provided for by the government, and the fact that Robertson wasn’t thrown in jail or censored by the federal, state, or local government is a testament that free speech is doing just fine. What Palin meant to say was, “Having painfully outdated and hateful views on gay people is an endangered species.”

Let them stand together. In front of a speeding bus.

‘Duck Dynasty’ Set Another Cable Ratings Record With Its Premiere Last Night http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/duck-dynasty-set-another-cable-ratings-record-with-its-premiere-last-night/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/duck-dynasty-set-another-cable-ratings-record-with-its-premiere-last-night/#comments Thu, 15 Aug 2013 22:15:30 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=256481 People love ducks! I don’t really know what to make of this, so I’ll just present the facts, then offer the most insight I can into what can be made of this information.

Duck Dynasty launched its fourth season last night on A&E. The show had set a ratings record for unscripted cable shows at about 10 million viewers in its season three premiere. Last night, the show got 11.8 million viewers, which means that almost two million new people decided that they love beards or ducks, or guys with beards wearing camouflage.

The show has shattered every cable show save for The Walking Dead, and last year had even knocked off network juggernauts like American Idol.

So…people love ducks. And rednecks. More so than they do quality scripted programs.

And there you have it. Television’s biggest success story of the decade…Duck Dynasty.

PBS Calls Everyone Dumb With New Ad Campaign http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/pbs-calls-everyone-dumb-with-new-ad-campaign/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/pbs-calls-everyone-dumb-with-new-ad-campaign/#comments Wed, 29 May 2013 21:46:00 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=255091 Pretty solid show ideas. PBS should get in the "not boring" business.

PBS launched a new ad campaign that’s being lauded as brilliant. And how have they done so? By calling you (and mostly your mom) stupid. The campaign features posters for fake television shows that skirt the line betweem ridiculous and “eh, I can see that being a show.”

Modeled after shows like Duck Dynasty, Pawn Stars, and just about every show in Bravo‘s insipid, brain cell-squashing programming line-up, the series of ads from PBS’s New York station, Thirteen, launched with a poster for The Dillionaire, which is presumably about a guy who made a fortune selling pickles. The ad is accompanied by the message, “The fact that you thought this was a real show says a lot about the state of TV.” It goes on to ask, “Support quality programming. Visit us at thirteen.org.”

Pretty clever campaign, if only PBS had the quality programming to back it up. Downton Abbey, lame and goofy after the first season. Antiques Roadshow, it’s about antiques. Tavis Smiley, probably farts in elevators. What that channel needs is a show like Knitting Wars. Who wouldn’t watch that? You know if you watch long enough you’re going to see an old lady reel off and stab someone. Aren’t potty-mouthed, violent septuagenarians what entertainment is all about? It’s exactly what made Betty White fascinating again. If Thirteen is accepting pitches, I’d like to speak with them about Violent Oldies. Let’s make each other rich.

Here are the other ads in the campaign to remind you how dumb you are.
