Send the lady from wardrobe to the cargo shorts store. NOW!

This Monday is off to a slow start, so I’m not really in the correct headspace yet to perform my periodic Sandler-reaming, so I’ll leave the reader to accept, with sad resignation, the following news:

Adam Sandler is looking to team back up with his The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates co-star Drew Barrymore for a film about two adults, who, after their first date goes horribly awry, find themselves trapped at a family resort with all their kids from previous marriages.

Yuck.

I’m thinking that they will get together in the end after the kids perform some machiavellian deeds to bring them together. Some other conditions precedent will be Sandler saying “poop” and his yelling at a child in his toddler/Jewish grandmother hybrid voice.

Get excited?

Bad Teacher is coming out on DVD this Tuesday (October 18th). What better way to observe this momentous occasion than to run down some other Hollywood bad girls? As bad as Cameron Diaz is in Bad Teacher, she can’t compete with the real deal. Take a look at Hollywood’s 10 best bad girls.

Enter your birthday below to see an exclusive clip from Bad Teacher.

Winona Ryder

Many Hollywood bad girls get involved in garden variety pursuits like drug or alcohol abuse. But Winona Ryder did something that, in its own way, is even worse: shoplifting! When a millionaire movie star is stealing clothes just for the thrill of the crime, you know she’s stolen a seat at the Hollywood Bad Girl Hall of Fame.

Madonna

Unlike many bad girls in Hollywood, Madonna is a shrewd professional in all aspects of her career. Rather than going out of her mind, partying, stealing boyfriends, etc., she pretends to do all of those things, and more, as part of her public persona. But have you ever seen her do “Like A Virgin”? If she’s not a Hollywood bad girl, than nobody is.

Lindsay Lohan

One of the definitive Hollywood bad girls, Lindsay Lohan took the enormous promise she showed as a young child actress and squandered it on sex, drugs, and alcohol. Ain’t that always how it goes? She may be in line for a comeback, though, so don’t rule her out just yet. If her adult performance in Robert Altman’s A Prairie Home Companion is any indication, she still has talent to spare.

There have been so many young actors who have been in rehab that Hollywood might start installing red carpets at the local recovery centers.

There have been so many young actors who have been in rehab that Hollywood might start installing red carpets at the local recovery centers. Pills, drugs, alcohol and other intoxicants have been part of the entertainment scene long before child star Judy Garland was kept working late by MGM management. Garland’s troubled history finally made her persona non grata in the industry, but these days a stint, or several, seems like just another Hollywood rite of passage. Here are some of the saddest and most surprising cases of young actors in rehab.

Drew Barrymore

Drunk Drew Barrymore

The delightful Ms. Barrymore is probably the youngest actor who has been in rehab. At only thirteen she sought treatment after spending her late childhood starring in films and nightclubbing at Studio 54. In her autobiography Little Girl Lost, she described smoking marijuana at twelve and quickly progressing to cocaine. It took a suicide attempt and another stint in rehab at fourteen before Barrymore maintained her sobriety. Two decades later, she confesses to drinking the occasional glass of wine. She also balances an impressive acting career with behind-the-scenes work as a director and producer.

Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen smoking

Few young actors begin their careers as early as Mary-Kate Olsen (born 1986), who was only nine months-old when she first shared the role of Michelle on Full House with her twin Ashley. After Full House ended its eight year run, the sisters formed a popular and profitable tween franchise with movies, specials and merchandising. Olsen had just celebrated her eighteenth birthday when she entered a Utah rehabilitation facility in 2004. Although tabloids pointed to drugs, her publicists insisted anorexia nervosa was the issue. A healthier Olsen emerged six weeks later, and there have been no return rehab stints. Olsen found solo acting success in some feature films and a recurring role of Showtime’s Weeds. She has also formed two fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James with sister Ashley.

Corey Haim

Corey Haim

Only 38 years-old when he overdosed in 2010, Corey Haim had entered rehab a total of fifteen times before his death. Haim, born in 1971, became a teen idol in the late 1980s, following his performances in Lucas and The Lost Boys. His lopsided smile and adorable face made him an ongoing cover boy for teen magazines like Tiger Beat. He later admitted that his party lifestyle led to a crack addiction during the filming of 1988’s License To Drive. Then, at the age of eighteen, he entered rehab. He did manage to quit cocaine, but unfortunately just swapped it for an addiction to prescription medications. He spent the next two decades trying to get clean, but was found to have procured 532 pills in the month before he died, including Valium, Vicodin and Xanax.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan strung out

One child star who has helped give rehabilitation the reputation of a revolving door is Lindsay Lohan. Once a successful Disney star in wholesome flicks like The Parent Trap, she seemed to be handling the transition to adult roles with a sophisticated turn in Mean Girls. Her partying quickly overshadowed her early promise, as endless tabloid stories documented her love of the nightlife. Then, the California court system became involved as DUIs, car wrecks and other criminal incidents have piled up. Lohan’s status as an actress and a recovering addict remain uncertain.

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.'s mugshot

The most talented of the young actors who’ve been to rehab, or at least the most inspiring, is the Robert Downey Jr. He was just 22 when he made his first trip to rehab, following a Hollywood childhood where his director father reportedly gave him his first drugs at eight years-old. Downey’s long, tortured journey continued through drug dependence, jail stints, and very public falls off the wagon. His most astonishing drug-addled moment came in 1996 when he wandered into a neighbor’s house in Malibu and fell asleep in a child’s bed. After a year-long stint in Corcoran State Prison, Downey finally sobered up. He has since made a slow but steady climb back to the very top of the Hollywood heap, including starring in a blockbuster Ironman franchise and gaining an Oscar nomination for Tropic Thunder.

Though based on a young adult novel, the movie will skew a bit older placin the master burglar characters in their early 20′s. That’s why it’s a big surprise that for her directorial follow-up to Whip It – oh man, remember Whip It? – Barrymore chose to helm a romantic comedy. Very strange.

She will direct the film adaptation of Liz Tuccillo’s book How to Be Single for New Line, which is one of those multi-story movies like Valentine’s Day (groaaaan). The movie is about a group of New Yorkers who fall in love and break up over a decade. Will sitting through this romcom feel like a decade? If so, will I at least earn points with my girlfriend towards seeing something with guns, explosions and gunsplosions (guns that shoot when they detect a nearby explosion)?

Those details have not yet been revealed. What we do know that the script was written by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn (He’s Just Not That Into You), so there you go. (Hollywood Reporter)

Going the Distance
R, 97m., 2010
Cast: Drew Barrymore, Justin Long, Charlie Day, Christina Applegate, Jason Sudeikis, Jim Gaffigan, Kelli Garner, and Ron Livingston
Directed by Nanette Burstein
Screenplay by Geoff LaTuippe

Going the Distance is a romantic comedy with two very likable leads in the shape of Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, who find themselves going out for one lazy been there seen that before script.

The script by newcomer Geoff LaTuippe and direction by documentarian Nanette Burstein tries to give the film some edge by basing the movie's love fling in reality but gets caught up in the standard whining of most romantic comedies.
More after the jump...

Going the Distance is a romantic comedy with two very likable leads in the shape of Justin Long and Drew Barrymore, who find themselves going out for one lazy been there seen that before script.

The script by newcomer Geoff LaTuippe and direction by documentarian Nanette Burstein tries to give the film some edge by basing the movie’s love fling in reality but gets caught up in the standard whining of most romantic comedies.

More after the jump…

Long and Barrymore as New York/San Francisco long distance lovers Erin and Garrett create a chemistry that is easily found on screen with their inevitable meet cue moments. With most rom-coms, it takes an entire movie to convince an audience that these two particular actors would like each other. Look no further than this year’s She Out of My League or The Bounty Hunter on how to make a rom-comedy disaster.

Trying to help this script along are several comedic veterans Christina Applegate, Charile Day, Jason Sudeikis, Rob Riggle, and Jim Gaffigan playing the various friends and family members, who just hang around so they can throw out the right advice speech when needed and still add a dick or fart joke in to keep the R rating.

Keeping the movie at an R rating, it feels like a hybrid of Judd Apatow meets Nora Ephron at times. This works occasionally with the juxtaposition of Garrett’s friends giving him advice on top of Erin’s sisters and vice versa, but then stops and sets itself back to a 1 in creating any further comedic ideas other than that they are 3000 miles apart.

Going the Distance gives us characters that are nice and help the trip be more pleasant along the way, but once they reac the final destination, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before.

Grade: C+

The trailer for new rom-com Going the Distance looks at the trials and tribulations of a long distance relationship as Justin Long and Drew Barrymore try to make it work from spaced-out area codes. It takes a concept with potential and weaves in thin threads of triteness between scenes with "Always Sunny's" Charlie Day. The original script was on the Black List awhile back, but of course Hollywood execs replaced the dark tones and realistic characters with botched spray tan and inappropriate kitchen table sex set pieces. Justin Long delivers, as he usually seems to do, but I find myself wondering why his character puts so much effort into a long distance relationship with Drew Barrymore when Charlie Day is (inexplicably) his father. Live with dad forever, dude. No girl's going to keep you as entertained as he will, even if she does let you feel her up over her shirt. Check out the trailer after the jump. Going the Distance phones it in to theaters August 27, 2010.
