Yes, yes, MTV doesn’t play videos any more so the whole premise of the awards show is irrelevant. We’ve been saying that for about 12 years now, to the point that the criticism itself may be more obnoxious than the very thing it’s criticizing.

Nah. The thing it’s criticizing is still worse. Nonetheless, I guess MTV makes some money off these things, or maybe Hannah Montana is paying for them out of pocket, but there will be Video Music Awards on August 24th.

To the show’s credit, some decent acts are up for awards, but those were probably hand picked to get a broader audience so that more people can watch Iggy Azalea fuck a goat, or whatever contrived controversy that manifests itself during MTV’s wrap-up show.

Beyonce leads with eight nods because…she fierce! Eminem is up for seven because he slightly less fierce. Also, a lot of people probably thought he was dead or retired, but here he is, getting MTV VMA Ns (I decided to shorten “Nominations” so that the phrase is nothing but acronyms. I’m a completist.) Iggy Azalea also got seven Ns as well, but that’s far less surprising, because a white person appropriating black culture is always good for commercial and critical success. Just ask…I don’t know…oh! Eminem.

If you’re of a Pitchfork type of guy or gal, you can hang your hat on Ns for Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Drake, Arctic Monkeys, the Black Keys, Sia, Lorde, Jack White, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Schoolboy Q, Disclosure, Angel Haze, Lana Del Rey, Gesaffelstein, MGMT, and Tyler, the Creator.

Can we please just call him “Tyler” now? The only thing more annoying than typing “Tyler, the Creator” is having to add that little comma-pause in there when you say his name.

And Drake will be there. Because it’s legally not an award show unless Drake or Neil Patrick Harris are in attendance.

Remember: VMAs, August 24th. Be there or…be somewhere else. It just doesn’t matter anymore.

He dons a big lush one for this bit.

Jimmy Kimmel loves “punking” people. Do people still stay “punking?” They should. It’s very evocative. Anyway, this time he got R&B star/Canadian Drake and had him hit Hollywood Blvd to ask people what they thought of Drake.

Turns out some people like him, and some don’t. Who knew? Anyway, he’s a pretty good sport, and kind of hard to dislike even with that insanely punchable face.

Don’t Panic: Everyone’s Back For ‘Ice Age 4′ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/dont-panic-everyones-back-for-ice-age-4/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/dont-panic-everyones-back-for-ice-age-4/#comments Wed, 27 Apr 2011 04:12:12 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=209122 Ray Romano, Queen Latifah and the whole cast have been unthawed long enough for a quick voice over session.

I know you’ve been worried about whether Ray Romano and Queen Latifah will return for the next Ice Age movie. You can stop refreshing the Screen Junkies home page because… *drum roll*… yes, they will be. Time to take a deep breathe, I have to keep reminding myself.

Fox’s $2 billion dollar grossing Ice Age series is coming out with a fourth installment, Continental Drift, a “high seas” adventure. More returning cast members that have been thawed out include Denis Leary, Josh Peck, Seann William Scott and John Leguizamo.

New warm-blooded additions to the cast include Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, Drake and Aziz Ansari. Though I admit Ansari will probably be a great voice actor, I will not pay $38 to see another Ice Age movie in 3D. I’d rather just watch”Parks and Recreation” with my eyes closed and pretend his character’s a squirrel or something.

Continental Drift lazily drifts into theaters July 13, 2012. (Hollywood Reporter)

Decent Actor Richard Gere Close To Joining ‘Arbitrage’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/decent-actor-richard-gere-close-to-joining-arbitrage/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/decent-actor-richard-gere-close-to-joining-arbitrage/#comments Mon, 07 Feb 2011 21:05:19 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=25277 Here's some news that big pink dog will enjoy. Richard Gere is getting back in the game.

Richard Gere is close to signing on to the Nicholas Jarecki-directed drama Arbitrage.  An earlier press release reported that Al Pacino had signed on to the lead as a shady hedge fund manager trying to sell off his empire before its collapse. Whether Gere is taking over that role or appearing in a supporting capacity isn’t known at this time. But if Nicholas Jarecki saw Son Of No One, that would explain Pacino’s dismissal.

Either way, this could prove to be Gere’s toughest role to date as he might have to share the screen with Drake. It takes a fine actor to counteract Drake‘s bland appeal. And as the pink dog sporting sunglasses in the inset photo has illustrated, Gere is merely a decent actor. (Deadline)

Drake may not have a lot of different facial expressions, but he does get a lot of work done. From Degrassi: The Next Generation to #1 hit singles, it seems like there’s nothing the milquetoast toast of the music world hasn’t done. Now The Fresh Prince of Bel-Lazy Eyes is looking to add a second movie role to his filmography.

Arbitrage is an indie film written and directed by Nicholas Jarecki (“The Outsider”), and Drake may co-star with Eva Green and Susan Sarandon. The film is about a shifty hedge fund manager trying to pawn off his about-to-collapse empire to an unsuspecting bank before it’s too late, and a lot of bad shit happens to him.

No word yet on what character Drake plays, but we bet he’s described in the script as “smooth.” When you want so smooth, you kinda get drowsy looking at him, you go to Drake. If he got Bill Murray to mentor him though, that might be a game changer. (TheWrap)
