As we’ve seen with the crazy box office business drummed up by The Avengers and it’s many spinoffs, the big idea these days is to assemble a group of characters, release some films with all of them, then release some individual films, then become REALLY rich.

We see DC Comics beginning to do it with Justice League, featuring Batman, Aquaman, and all the other men, and Marvel’s even doing it again with Spider-Man and his weird group of friends.

However, Universal doesn’t want to limit the opportunity to just comic book characters, as it’s supposedly assembling all it’s classic monster characters from it’s really old movies, like Van Helsing, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and all those other people you grandfather won’t stop talking about. The premise kicks off in 2016 with a new Mummy film that presumably won’t have Brendan Fraser in it, but who knows?

We’ve seen him slaughter armies of orcs and kill bathhouse assassins with little more than his penis. But now, Viggo Mortensen may take on his toughest opponent yet. Dracula.

Mortensen has been offered the lead role of Henry Clemens in Neil Marshall‘s The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The film follows the crew of the ill-fated ship that carries Dracula from Transylvania to England as they are picked off one-by-one. It’s a great concept that has previously only been glossed over by previous Dracula films. The presence of Neil Marshall all but guarantees we’ll get an over-the-top gorefest that also delivers solid chills. And with the presence of Viggo Mortensen, we’ll get gravity in a film that could otherwise easily veer into silliness. And also the chance to see his wang again. (Bloody Disgusting)

With allegations of creepiness and unwanted genital touching swirling around Herman Cain, it’s certainly turning into a media circus. Of course, why should we focus on a terrible economy when we can talk about a sex scandal? The sex scandal involves sex!!

It wouldn’t be a circus without the clown mistress, Gloria Allred. The attention-hungry lawyer has announced she is representing one of Cain’s accusers. I’m not sure how seductively stroking a baseball  bat will help the case but then again, I didn’t go to law school.

Many people groan at the sight of Allred, but they should be used to her by now. She’s been appearing in movies for years, right beneath our noses. See for yourself.

MTV has a new show coming out – it’s called Death Valley, and it follows a motley crew of paranormal investigators as they contend with all manner of supernatural happenings: Ghosts, goblins, that sort of thing. And as the following five characters demonstrate, there’s no shortage of fiendishly evil characters who need to be locked up. In honor of Death Valley (which premieres tonight at 10:30/9:30c), here are five paranormal villains who need to be taken into custody.

Freddy Krueger

One of the most infamous villains in movie history, Freddy Krueger’s metier is haunting you while you sleep, invading your dreams, murdering you in your dream, and causing you to die in real life. It might be kind of tough to incarcerate him, since he’s deceased and all, and he’s already survived several Nightmare on Elm Street movies, including one rumble with Jason. But it’s indisputable that the streets would be a little safer with him locked away.

Count Orlok

Consider this nasty-looking cat a stand-in for every evil vampire in movies. After all, he came before Bela Lugosi’s Count Dracula, the shit-kicking vampires in Near Dark, and the shirtless glittery vampires in the Twilight movies. Unlike those guys, who use their vampire powers to make themselves suave and attractive, the undateable Count Orlok was proud to let his freak flag fly. He’s still a threat, though, as all powerful and bloodthirsty vampires tend to be. Lock ‘im up!

Unnamed Demon in Paranormal Activity

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the villain in a movie with “paranormal” right in the title. This guy’s crimes aren’t quite at the same large scale of the last two villains, but he could definitely benefit from some paranormal 3 hots and a cot all the same. And with the Paranormal Activity sequels becoming the next Saw series, this demon’s probably going to be on the warpath for years to come.

Pazuzu

The name might not be familiar to you, so here’s a refresher: It’s the demon who causes all that wacky mischief in The Exorcist and its assorted off-shoots. His crimes don’t need to be recounted here, but suffice it to say that taking the literal embodiment of evil into custody would be a notch on any law enforcement professional’s belt.

Lord Voldemort

Voldemort, as notorious paranormal villains go, is pretty dangerous. So dangerous, in fact, that most in the paranormal law enforcement field are too afraid to even speak his name. Now, a lot of you are probably thinking that Voldemort was vanquished in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, to which I say: ‘pffft.’ That guy’s probably hiding out in Brazil until the heat dies down. He needs to be caught, put in jail, and made to think about his actions.

If you’re anything like me, the word “vampire” conjures up the image of a shirtless, sparkly, slightly feminine teenage boy. Of course, that seems to be my brain’s default image, but I digress. Believe it or not, there was a time before Twilight when vampires were considered horrifying creatures rather than moody young metro-sexuals. The new film, Priest, hearkens back to those simpler times when these blood suckers were something you wanted to avoid at all costs rather than something you wanted to ask to the prom. In honor of the return of terrifying vampires to the big screen, we present to you the nine most ravenous vampires of all time.

Check out all the Sony “Action Unleashed” DVDs!

Prince Mamuwalde – Blacula (1972)

In Blacula, Prince Mamuwalde is an 18th century prince who wants to put an end to the slave trade. Naturally, he goes to Count Dracula for help, because if there’s anyone who can stop the transatlantic slave trade, it’s an undead Transylvanian nobleman. Things go badly for the prince, and he is transformed into a vampire. Through a series of unfortunate events, he ends up in 1970′s Los Angeles and begins killing again. But at least he does so with style.

Severen – Near Dark (1987)

Caleb Colton thought he was going to get lucky when he met a young girl named Mae. Instead, he was bitten, and turned into a vampire. But despite his new lifestyle, Caleb is still squeamish about the whole “killing humans to feed” thing. This doesn’t sit well with the other vampires, including Severen (Bill Paxton). He likes Caleb even less when it is discovered that a blood transfusion can return vampires to human form. The two end up fighting, and things do not end up well for one of them.

David – Lost Boys (1987)

Before he was draining blood from terrorists on”24,” Kiefer Sutherland was sucking blood in Lost Boys. As David, he played the leader of a local gang in a small California town. However, as it turns out, the gang is more than just a group of thugs. Can you guess their secret? Yep! They’re vampires!

Jerry Dandridge – Fright Night (1985)

When Charley Brewster discovers that his neighbor Jerry Dandridge is a vampire, no one will believe his story: not his mom, not his girlfriend, not the police. With all other options exhausted, he turns to vampire hunter Peter Vincent to sort things out.

Santánico Pandemónium – From Dusk till Dawn (1996)

Santánico Pandemónium is one ravenous vampire. She’s also hot as hell. Honestly, I would risk death by vampire for a chance with Salma Hayek.

Martin – Martin (1977)

This often overlooked vampire film is from George A. Romero, a director better known as the father of the modern zombie film. However, he also put a unique spin on the vampire genre.

Lestat De Lioncourt – Interview with a Vampire (1994)

In the intro, I lamented the way Twilight feminized vampires. However, Interview with a Vampire is just as guilty, if not more so. However, the film takes place in the 1700′s, so it should get a pass. After all, it’s hard not to look girlie in a powdered wig.

Dracula – Dracula (1931)

Béla Lugosi stars in this adaptation of Bram Stoker‘s classic novel. Dracula became the standard by which all other vampire films would be judged.

Nosferatu – Nosferatu (1922)

Even before Dracula hit the silver screen, there was Nosferatu. The film told the story of Count Orlok, a Transylvania nobleman with a penchant for sucking blood. Sound familiar? That’s because it’s a direct rip off of Stoker’s Dracula. When the producers of the film could not secure the rights, they simply decided to steal the story. Even so, their film is widely considered one of the greatest horror films of all time.

Quentin Tarantino Scouting Locations for Vampire Film? http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/quentin-tarantino-scouting-locations-for-vampire-film/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/quentin-tarantino-scouting-locations-for-vampire-film/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Is Quentin Tarantino scouting Eastern European locations for a possible vampire film? If unsubstantiated stories running in two different Romanian tabloids are to be believed (which they almost certainly should be), then the answer is a resounding "yes."According to Dread Central, said tabloids are reporting that Tarantino will soon be in Vienna, a gateway to Eastern European travel, in order to inspect various castles for use in a Dracula project. Again, this is little more than a rumor, and Tarantino could be visiting as nothing more than a tourist, or perhaps even a sex tourist. Who's to say? But given that it's 3:00 AM, and I have one last article to publish before I can go to bed, I choose to believe that this story has legs.
