Depp has closed a deal with Disney to produce a modern take on Don Quixote written by Jeff Morris and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink. There’s no word if Pink would direct or if Depp would star in the film. The only thing that is known is that Gilliam and his terrible luck will not be involved. He shouldn’t be too upset about it. This is the treatment one should expect when they secretly murder a gypsy in a hit-and-run accident. (Deadline)

Tony Grisoni revealed, “Us survivors of Don Q are a strange kind of dysfunctional family. Every year since we have rewritten the screenplay. And we’ve got quite good at it. You will be pleased to hear the Don is back up and in the saddle and ready to ride under new colours.”

What that means is actually nothing, seeing as the long-attached Ewan McGregor has backed out, likely because he doesn’t want any freak lightning accidents to befall him. However, it should be known that Gilliam has commisioned a design firm to draft up a new logo for the film. I think that’s all the proof we need that this movie is practically in the can. At the very least, the crew will get stylish new satin jackets. (via The Playlist)
