When last we checked in on John Goodman in a college setting, he was abusing his position as coach of the football team and making life miserable for nerds. What Monsters University offers is a more mature and nerd-tolerant Goodman.

The Monsters, Inc. prequel takes us back to Sully and Mike Wazowski’s school days to learn how the duo first met, what lead them down the path to becoming complete sell outs, and since its college, all the hallucinogens they took and asses they tapped. Gotta say though, I’m a little jealous. I went to a small liberal arts college and the girls at Monster University are much less busted than the ones at my school.

Girls Can Play Too In Pixar’s ‘Brave’ Teaser http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/girls-can-play-too-in-pixars-brave-teaser/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/girls-can-play-too-in-pixars-brave-teaser/#comments Mon, 27 Jun 2011 17:16:31 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?post_type=video&p=217984 Finally, someone brave enough to take care of Scotland's grizzly bear epidemic.

The nerds at Pixar are finally comfortable enough around girls to have one star as the protagonist in one of their films. This teaser for Brave gives us our first look at Princess Merida in action and it looks incredible.

Watch as she journeys through the mystical Scottish Highlands (no sign of Christopher Lambert here) and runs through Woodland Sound FX Vol. One before encountering a fearsome, towering bear. Rather than shriek and recoil from danger like those other Disney princesses, she gets all gangsta and pulls back her bow to slay the beast. I hope that arrow was dipped in bear-repellent. At any rate, lookin’ good Pixar!

Pixar produces almost all quality stuff, with this summer’s Cars 2 as a possible future exception or “futureption.” So it’s always awesome to see what they’re working on, like this newly released image from their upcoming film Brave. Check out the bow-wielding redhead named Merida below, who’s destined to be shooting arrows at children from a parade float at Disneyland.

The story takes place in the Scottish highlands, where Merida will discover “the true meaning of courage” by battling beasts. I dunno, if I were her, I would just snipe the beasts from a safe distance and learn the meaning of absolutely nothing. At least I would live another day, which would make a movie about me – snacking on the sofa, blogging for Screen Junkies – way more interesting.

Brave gallops into theaters June 22, 2012. (UGO)

Whenever I go see a Pixar movie, I always forget about the shorts. They’re fantastic, but they always come to me as a surprise. Like, “oh yeah, there’s gonna be a short – nice work, me, cause I get to watch a Pixar short now.”

Below is the first sneak peak at “La Luna,” a new short about a little boy on a boat with his father and grandfather, learning about their unusual family business for the first time. “Why is this unconscious man wearing cement shoes, grandpapa?” “La Luna” won’t premiere in front of Cars 2: Return of the Creepy Looking Car-People. Toy Story short “Hawaiian Vacation” opens with Cars 2, so we don’t know which film this 7 minute short will be paired with. Unless it’s Cars 3, it’ll probably be great. (ComingSoon.net)

La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?

I am not excited about Cars 2. The first one was Pixar‘s weakest effort, in my humble opinion, and the trailer for Cars 2 doesn’t lead me to think this outing will be any better. That said, holy f*ck, check out these badass new Cars 2 posters.

The first one’s inspired by classic Bond movies. Now I’m tempted to fashion my Corolla with a giant evil monocle, just to see what would happen. (Answer: probably not much of anything.) The other two posters are part of their “Cars visit other locations in the 60s” series, and they’re beautifully drawn.

Cars 2 races into theaters Jun 24. I’ll wait ’til they make a 2D movie based on these posters. (Cinema Blend)

Cars 2 is the rare Pixar movie I’m not excited about at all. I didn’t think Cars was very good, but if selling dump trucks full of Cars toys, Cars pencil toppers, and Cars cars – actual automobiles with eyes inconveniently painted on the windshield – allows them to make more WALL-E‘s and Toy Story 3‘s, then sell away.

However, here is something to get excited about, toon nerds. These new posters from Cars 2 are classy. As in, you could buy them framed at a Bed Bath & Beyond classy. Seriously, though, the shading and retro style are truly magnifique on these concept arts turned posters. I still probably won’t see it in theaters, but now I wish Cars 2 slightly better success than I did before. You’re welcome, John Lasseter. (Cinema Blend)

Abraham Lincoln Now Hunts Vampires And Pixar Movies http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/abraham-lincoln-now-hunts-vampires-and-pixar-movies/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/abraham-lincoln-now-hunts-vampires-and-pixar-movies/#comments Thu, 17 Mar 2011 02:36:14 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=202100 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' will try to stake Pixar's 'The Brave' at the box office. *Gasps*

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has practicall taken four score and seven years to lock-in a director, but now the film’s got another big problem on the horizon. It will have to stake Pixar at the box office. *Gasps*

Disney has changed the release date of the new Pixar movie The Brave to June 22nd, pitting the film against the much buzzed about out AL:VH, which has a nice lookin’ acronym. Pixar films always suck serious blood at the box office, and I don’t think there’s a Pixar movie that hasn’t opened at #1 in wide release. Those cartoon guys don’t shit around.

However, The Brave – which stars the highly distinctive voices of Reese Witherspoon and Emma Thompson – may have a flaw in its CG armor. The film was supposed to be directed by Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), who would have been Pixar’s first female director. Mid-way through, Pixar Boys Club member Mark Andrews (“One Man Band” short) took the reigns.

Even so, Lincoln‘s chances of beating The Brave are as likely as the old South being like, “yeah, we’ll give up our slaves. No problemo, Aberino.” (TheWrap)
